The Windows OS Thread - Formerly THE OS for gamers and normies, now sadly ruined by Pajeets

I still run Windows 10 (pro). The only special thing about my system is that I've used some debloater from github. What do you recommend I should do in order to improve my experience? Or should I switch?
Do you have any problems? No? Then don't do anything. If you're just bothered by Windows 10 EOL, run massgrave.dev to enable 3 more years of suppport.

I'm doing the same, except instead of using "some debloater", a few years ago I manually read through a bunch of "debloater" script repos and borrowed ideas and snippets that sounded like something I'd want to tweak.

I suppose not updooting might leave me at some sort of risk for whatever scary new CVE pops its head around, but I imagine as long as I'm not individually targeted or download free-sex-now.exe I should be somewhat reasonably safe behind my NAT and firewalls. :optimistic:

That, or follow this guide to switch a non-LTSC version of 10 to an LTSC one. Did this with my current Win10 install and it only unrolled a few system configs like system sound presets I quickly brought back, been running flawless ever since.

This is definitely not a dealbreaker for a lot of people.
Top 15 PC games.

Green = supported on Linux
Yellow = kinda works, maybe
Red = doesn't work on Linux

A lot of people play the games Linux users think nobody plays because no Linux users (1.2% of the market) play them (because they don't work on Linux).

In my experience it's trivial to run Minecraft on Linux, the only extra obstacle is setting the run flag for the Java executable.

1. Download PolyMC
2. Download Adoptium JRE
3. Run PolyMC via Adoptium JRE

It's Java, it runs on anything.

But honestly, you're a gay nigger if your argument for "Linux gaming sucks" is that it doesn't support Windows rootkits, AKA anti-cheat. It's as gay as Linux users suggesting it's impossible to run old Windows games without the magic of Wine.

At this point they are deliberately breaking support, so its not so much that they can't work as they wont work. If something like steamOS got acceptable anti cheat solutions from the major providers that whole list would turn green the same day that released

Minecraft Java Edition runs on Linux, but Minecraft Bedrock Edition doesn't. Thus the yellow color.

Linux gaming sucks for the same reason Linux media editing sucks - the key software that most people care about doesn't work. Nobody cares why it doesn't work, and "just don't use that software" isn't an answer they accept. Could the software vendors make it work? Sure. Would it be hard? No. But have they done it? No. And therefore, Linux gaming sucks.

Since when has Overwatch 2 not worked on linux?
It works, I just forgot to manually color that bar.

Except the type of gamer to play on Windows/Linux cares about Java Edition. Bedrock Edition is something iPad toddlers and console gamers are interested in since that's the only option.

Not even gonna argue with you, just know that bringing up the most popular titles per playerbase, which are just multiplayer streamer slop, is disingenuous and makes you as bad as all the twats in the Linux thread that'll bend over backwards to find a reason why Windows is literally unusable and how Linux literally solves all of Windows' problems.

I've opened up my Win11 laptop, ran it through updates and saw a leftover I wouldn't expect to see: that Win9x "updating Web experience" window that pops up in the top left corner. You know the one, the one that was used for shit like device setup before showing you the login screen. Crazy how much of that Windows still remains.

Though I think I'll need to give it a reinstall. No idea if it's the cursed Lenovo factory pre-install, or Windows 11 being Windows 11, or if it's because it's a laptop, but when I do a clean bootup it's a fucking grueling process. Think I need to wait it out a bit before logging in or else nothing will want to start up. Explorer will hang, as will the rest of the desktop. All the software on the autorun will refuse to start up. Once it "clicks" then the taskbar loads normally, so does most of the autorun software. Most, because one or two programs won't start up. After that I just hibernate the bitch and it works perfectly fine, albeit with some sluggishness, but honestly I can't tell if it's a Win11 issue or a laptop hardware issue.

Still, probably a good idea to give it a fresh install, maybe IoT LTSC 2024 even though this has a legit 11 Pro license assigned to it, but it's not like it's 100% kosher either. Lenovo Commercial Vantage should deal with any and all missing drivers.

I don't buy how tech people say the older Windows operating systems like XP and 7 are going to get you haxxed like crazy if you use them. The likelihood is low as long as you aren't being a moron.

I remember Mutahar making a video about how connecting a XP computer to the net will get instantly hacked. Not actually doing anything on it or reviving data, just connecting. I found that video full of bullshit and just fearmongering to get people to let go of their functional old/outdated operating systems. Edit: cignut pointed out that is true, and Eric Parker videos also provides information. Dang.

They are extremely obsolete security wise, but that's really only a concern for businesses. Most people including myself use them for just hobbying or home use. I don't think jeet hackers have any incentive to hack some old grandpa's XP computer from buckfuck nowhere anymore. 10/11 have way more market share and potential victims anyway.

These OS do have their vulnerabilities, you can be 100% hacked, but don't fear too much. Just following computer health should be fine. Don't be scared when you just want to play Quake III Arena, using old chatrooms, or just experimenting with old stuff.

Or better yet, just use a VM. Just don't add personal info/files when dumping them with malware and junk for fun.

I gotta have standards. If a version of the game doesn't run, you get a yellow bar. Yellow like pee, which fills the bottles on the floor of a Linux gaming room.

You are far too smart to say something this stupid. There's nothing dishonest whatsoever about responding to the claim that nobody cares about certain software by pointing out that it's quite literally the most popular software on the planet. So I can only conclude that pointing out the objective facts about the massive gaps in gaming support on Linux has hit some kind of emotional sensitive point, because now you're just coping and seething.

Moreover, you know I have been consistent this entire time. I have always said the reason Linux is a bad platform for [gaming/media editing/office productivity/etc] is the most popular, commonly used software for those applications is unavailable for it. I apply the exact same logic to games that I to do every other application.

You can be mad. You can pound your keyboard. You can piss in a bottle and throw it at your waifu pillow. But what you can't do is protect managed democracy from the voteless from a Linux desktop.

BTW, top 50 on Steam. Yellow often required launch parameter trickery and may not work at all on some setups (the first ten Gold-rated games I looked at all had those problems, so I stopped reading the issues), red is broken, only white is flawless. Source was ProtonDB.
