It dawned on me recently that Windows 11 is almost 5 years old. Given the less than stellar reception, do we know if Windows 12 is being worked on (similar to how 7 and 10 came out a few years after Vista and 8, respectively) or have they stopped caring what we actually want?
Windows 11 will be the last operating system you will ever need now that it's a service, not a product.

Windows 12 will be 100% AI generated code. It will use the mandatory NPU chip in your computer to constantly rewrite itself. After six months it will determine that you do not need to use a computer and disable the keyboard and mouse, and use your information to take out loans in your name to buy itself better hardware.

Counterpoint: Valve had to fork Wine and create Proton to be able to run vidya on Linux because the Wine team is that fucking lazy and incompetent at creating a Win32 compatibility layer. So, if anything, Valve will get Proton to a point where it perfectly runs any Win32 based software under a compatibility layer, not the lazy niggers at WineHQ that couldn't do what Valve did in 5 years.

Nadella's Microsoft coasts on work done by his predecessors, Wine is a classic ego circlejerk FOSS project that doesn't go anywhere, and Valve is the only corporation in the game that has a financial incentive to create software that works and is contributing to open source in the process. If you follow shit like the Open Source Software Community Watch thread you know that FOSS wouldn't get anywhere without tard wranglers, and corpos are those tard wranglers. The FOSS "community" utterly despises writing good code and only cares about stroking their egos while sitting on their thumbs, and the handful that does care about writing good software, the entire fucking point of FOSS, is constantly attacked and demoralized to not let their work improve the Linux ecosystem. See Vaxry creating a Wayland TWM that doesn't suck ass or Valve getting attacked for contributing to Arch and supporting the Frog Protocols project that aims to un-fuck Wayland.

"Mom I want Windows XP"
"But we have one at home"
The "Windows XP" at home:
Which is stupid since Linux DE's can be really good at mimicking old Windows themes 1:1

Yet people still insist on doing those half-assed "kinda but not really" themes that stick out like a sore thumb.

Even on Windows mind you, where here you could just install RetroBar and have a Windows XP taskbar that behaves just like the Windows XP taskbar instead of doing this shit.

*Reports bug*

*Some European troon crawls out of the woodwork* ‘We’re not fixing bugs in this part of the code because it’s in need of a rewrite.’

*10 years go by, still no rewrite*

Lol-ing out loud, they said the same thing about Windows 10. I have my doubts. Besides, isn't Windows 11 just a reskinned jeetified Windows 10?

It's 100% sure being worked on, because the windows business relies on selling licenses, they can't just release a version a continuously update it, I just can't even imagine what abomination they will drop on us knowing what they did with 11.
From my experience back in the day, 10 was trash at release and filled with bugs, but they made it nice in the end, but I just don't think 11 has any way of being fixed without reimplementing every application in something that isn't a fucking web browser.

I doubt W11 will be the last OS they make but Microsoft isn't an OS company or developper anymore, they're in the cloud business.
Yeah, it's not their main business, but they can't just not make it profitable, I just can't imagine the amount of ads they would embed into everything if they wouldn't release a new version to keep selling licenses.
At the end of the day, windows is the gateway drug into their services, if they drop windows, all their other things will disappear, game pass isn't on other OSes, office 365 is the same shit, there's no native applications on other OSes, and most of the azure still relies on windows server instances, despite the massive amount of linux usage.
Some time last year there were people still struggling to run sql server on arm hardware, which instantly nukes lots of arm servers, don't know if they released a working build already since I'm not a .net dev.

I hope you're right. I won't hold my breath for an XP or 7, but I just want something that's not hot baby shit.

And please, for the love of god and all that is holy, may it not try to look and act like Mac. I fucking hate the Mac interface.

Windows 10 and 11 use the same license.

so then what the fuck was the point of making 11 besides inflicting pain onto the goyim
Giving their investors a pointer that they're doing something, since investors don't see all the shit that changed in Windows 10 for all the time it's been out under the hood. They just see one product name and to them it seems like stagnation so they had to come up with something to make green line go up. Lazily slap a fresh coat of paint on what was meant to be the next release of Windows 10, call it Windows 11, put "AI" in it because that makes green line go up, done.

Feel free to ignore all of that and keep believing everything is being done to spite you personally though. Screeching about the "goyim" is a telltale sign of someone who couldn't care less about facts and only wants to be mad in perpetuity, so believing you're being personally targeted in a schizophrenic delusion is preferable over accepting the reality that dumb corpos do dumb corpo shit meant to make green line go up.
