It's the same strat as winRAR. They only strictly enforce licensing against businesses.
I'd say more like Adobe. They're not going above and beyond to stop piracy of their products, GenP is doing just fine, and the reason Adobe is fine with it is because you're still using their products. Meaning you get locked into their software ecosystem. So when the time comes where you have to give a shit about software legality, you won't have an easy time moving to an alternative and you will get skinned alive by that Creative Cloud subscription. That was Bill's idea back in the 90's, and during his and Ballmer's tenure you still had to go through hoops to pirate Windows. Only with Nadella has the picture shifted and now your free Windows 10/11 ISO is basically a fully working Windows installation with an annoying watermark and disabled customization options, which also doesn't compare to WinRAR/Total Commander/REAPER, as those programs only give you a nag screen every time you launch them, and after you close it they work exactly like the full versions, no limited functionality.

Lest we forget the real reason why Microsoft doesn't care about Windows piracy, even when it comes to the LTSC versions: ever since 10 Windows is full of telemetry. They'll still make some money off of you even if you pirate those special enterprise versions, and it would cost them more to try and combat piracy than it does to just let it exist. It's maybe like 0.01% of their total revenue when Azure and Office 365 are their main bread makers, and the vast majority of Windows profits comes from company and OEM licensing, the former basically demands you to pay to not get fined to hell and back, and the latter is unaffected by piracy since, well, people just buy computers with pre-installed valid Windows licenses, constantly.

I'd say that Nadella should completely abandon this whole idea of delivering new OS every few years for core Windows OS. If you require more - pay.

crazy how Windows users instantly believe without proof that Microsoft would fuck them over on a whim. what an unfair assumption. so sad to think how deeply Windows' commercial success could be affected by this
I keep seeing all kinds of things being reported by other people I haven't seen in years, if ever. Ads on YouTube, Win 11 ads and nagscreens on Win 10, online account enforcement, etc.
You have no idea just how many people have no control over, and understanding of, their computers. All these people typically use the Windows Home version, and they are legion.

Then there are all those shiny reports on Linux this and Linux that, and I'm like, "OK, but why does it boot up with 100% font scaling on a 4K laptop screen? Is this even meant to be actually used by anyone?"

Even though three posts above this I shittalked Microsoft, but I get it, tunnel vision is very popular with this site's users.

you think I read the thread? I came here from the community happenings thread with a meme to post, buddy. reading other people's posts doesn't earn me any of those sweet, sweet updoots.

For those of you like me who are too stubborn to upgrade to Windows 11, Microsoft offers a pretty easy to opt-in extended security program for up to 3 years that you probably already qualify for, or at least can easily qualify for in only a few days.

tl;dr: If you are subscribed to OneDrive, back up your files, or have 1,000 Microsoft points via Bing, you can easily enroll. If you do not currently quality, you can install this extension:

Run it on the Bing homepage and you can accrue your daily limit of points. Once you reach 1,000 in three or four days, you should be able to qualify by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

Note: You must have earned the points on whatever account you have connected to your Windows 10 installation, assuming you are running a legit copy that is.

Or, you skip all that shit and use Microsoft Activation Scripts to activate ESU offline without having to use a Microsoft account. Or switch your Windows 10 22H2 to Windows 10 21H2 IoT LTSC, on massgrave.dev you can find info on how to do it.
Is there any version of W11 that isn't gay and bloated jeetslop? LTSC? Tiny11?
LTSC IoT 2024. Pretty barebones, 10 years of security updates, no feature updates, AKA the big updates every few years that love to break everything.

I know my gay-ass RGB speaker bar will cause Windows to wake up. There are way too many things that make your computer refuse to go the fuck to sleep
That's just when you put it to sleep again. Sometimes it takes 2 tries and then it shuts up. Also used Windows 11 for a big project today like a Chad. Windows 10 is dead, long live Windows 11.

I switched to Linux Mint with the copilot screenshot bullshit like a year ago.
I don't regret it. I learned a lot and outside of VR games and weird games with anti cheat I have no issues on linux.i recommend everyone make the switch if you're considering it.

The more I get suggested Linux, the more I'll stick with Windows. It just works.

The smart thing is to commit to trying it for a week or two then go back to Windows. It give you an opportunity to clean up your system a little and you have first hand experience to see if Mint works for you. A couple years ago I tried that and found that it worked fine but I didn't have an incentive to switch, and didn't switch until a few months later when Microsoft started ramping up the ads

I am not wiping my PC for a 2% market share OS, fuck off
