WordPad uses rich text format files for its rich text features. Nupad is using Markdown for tables and apparently bold, italic, lists, URLs, etc. If they are sane at all, they will have a toggle to display the plain text version.
If the only need is that the application opens fast then why even make changes to the program that can detract from this at all. Who exactly is asking for Markdown syntax and Copilot in Notepad, functionality would have had to be missing from the program to justify Microsoft going out of their way to change it.at all. Unless this was a heavily requested feature I see no point to it.

anything else i would use notepad++ because Wordpad is shit and notepad3 looks like it doesn't get the point of notepad, if i wanted line numbers and formatting icons rather than something simplistic i'd be using notepad++ and i won't have to worry about typing some random shit for fun on my notepad and seeing a shitty ad about it, it's about time burgers started parading the crucified corpses of whichever greedy fucks keep insisting for this gay shit to be the standard.

VSCode is pretty much the goat for the moment, until they enshittify, notepad is/should be simplistic and if you want extra support you get other stuff, wordpad existence seems like a cop out to me nowadays especially since google can open word files no problemo and libreoffice exists but since @Peaches the Wonder Cat said, "everyone" wants copilot integration on their system according to pooftah and rakesh therefore notepad is going to be enshittified and slapped AI datamining tracker shit because if you already have the change to markdown, might as well integrate stuff that gives some extra pocket money to please the investors once pajeet presents that shit to them and they get a nice bonus or a promotion since their gig at office icon rework doesn't pay as much as they should be paid like the bhramin tier indians that they are.
Basically nothing runs on it. That’s a business machine. PC wasn’t relevant for gaming until AT era. There are some games but it’s all crappy ports.
FWIW, TextEdit on MacOS has rich text and plain text modes and allows for tables. It's a complete piece of garbage nobody would want to use because of it but there it is. I'd guess the Jeet product manager got all his ideas from TextEdit.
VSCode is a fucking pig of a text editor, it's unacceptably slow and uses a ton of RAM to do basic text manipulations.
VSCode is largely good because of the amount of plugins it has. Long after it'll be shit, it'll still have a large amount of users and plugins to make it somewhat tolerable. It takes way longer for people to abandon a product than for it to become shit.
Maybe. But I still maintain that in this day and age, most people will want basic text formatting and the cost of that specifically, is minimal. Markup support is easy and resource-cheap. Sure. my notepad.exe process is by itself now taking up 60MB but... okay. I shouldn't have checked Task Manager for this. I've shot down my own argument...
Well, it also has the foundations in it to do a Hell of a lot more than that as well. It's FAR more than a text editor. Sure, you can use it as one and for that it uses more resource that would be necessary. Same as if I drove a Ferrari to the corner shop. But it's a very capable tool. Suite of tools, really.
