The Worst Game Endings - Or How to Ruin Good Gameplay with Bad Writing (Spoilers, duh)

Infinite. It literally didn't understand its own premise.
"Hurr durr, because alt timelines, we gotta go kill you." Fucking retards, that just means yet more alt timelines, fuck off.
Fucking hell bioshock infinite ending was stupid. Don't forget it goes beyond that. As the DLC's tack onto that ending, and recon stuff from the first game.

DLC1: Booker dewitt dies by a big daddy drill through the chest after the player learns from Elisabeth that this dewitt is really a comstock that crossed dimensions to one of the raptures versions to forget the fact he killed his own alternate reality baby he was trying to steal, by accident. Mind you Elisabeth that watches us die, was there watching this comstock try to steal that version of the baby. Btw this is the FINAL COMSTOCK according to Elisabeth in DLC2.

I don't even want to talk or think about DLC 2 which recons stuff from BS1 and just already stupid and a headache.

Who also fucking dies. I know bioshock isn't full of things to simp over, but is it worth simping over what is basically a walking corpse starting DLC 2 ?

If anything the only upside to DLC 2 is all loose ends should be tied now. No more comstocks, no more beths. Infinite timelines are gone. All that is left is BS 1 and 2 as if the game is trying to say. "None of infinite really mattered" .

it would be one sexy corpse

That came out wrong.

Dishonored 2 and 3 were so shit they retroactively ruin dishonored 1 and the knife of dunwall.

In the knife of dunwall daud attempts to find redemption after he realizes what he's done by taking on the brigmore witches and stopping delilah, who is attempting to swap bodies with emily and become ruler of the empire in disguise.

He stops her by not merely killing her, but trapping her the endless void with no chance or hope of ressurection because her very soul is lost in the endless nothing.

Its a very nice self contained story that runs parallel to dishonored and gives us insight into daud while also giving him a chance for redemption.

Cue dishonored 2 and a bunch of random normie dipshits perform a seance and bring her back, completely negating daud's efforts and "prison stronger than death", and she just walks in through the front door of the castle, declares herself queen, and the entire kingdom goes. "Ok sure why not."

Then randomly she changes her mind and decides to REPEAT the same ritual from the from the first game??? What? Why are are we retreading the exact same plotline? Why didn't she do this in the first place?

And the way you defeat her also takes the retard cake.

You enter the throne room, beat the everloving shit out of her in an 1v1 duel (or just choke her out), sabotage the magic portal she set up in the throne room and put her on the throne, and the dumb whore thinks you knocking her out was just a fever dream and walks into the godamn portal trapping herself a SECOND time in the exact same fucking way daud trapped her in the first palce.

She could have just done the fucking ritual in secrecy in the first godamn place. This bitch tried to do the exact same plan TWICE, and got foiled IN THE EXACT SAME WAY, TWICE out of sheer stupidity, and the way we trapped her she has already escaped from once.

And dishonored 3 takes the retard cake by turning the outsider into just same random kid that was turned into a god by 5 cultists performing a ritual on him.

Look I get it, dishonored 1's story wasn't a masterpiece, but it was a nice little self contained tale and an introduction to an intruiging world and set of characters. Dishonored 2 and 3 completely shit all over that, turn everyone into a retard and even ruin the mystique of the established world.

Also, dishonored 1 cover: White man, face completely covered by mask.

Dishonored 2 cover: White woman, mouth covered by bandana.

Dishonored 3 cover: Black woman, face completely exposed with no cover.

Postal Redux in a way.
Now I like the game just fine but them removing the school shooting stage for something confusing and "symbolic" feels like Running With Scissors simply didnt want to risk erupting the school shooting controversy again, especially since journalists even back then said you shot children when you didnt, the whole stage was about Postal Dude trying it but failing, which causes a mental breakdown and cue the ending of the game.

I get that school shootings arent so shocking anymore but it felt like the original ending had more meaning, as if the dude himself wouldnt allow himself to go beyond that line. There are several ways you can see that last stage. Going now with some random church and body being laid to rest feels...random. I know the intention was to maybe be symbolic or a memory but P.D from Postal 1 doesnt have much backstory outside of "disturbed man with a gun"

Thats when you replay Bioshock 1 and 2 with satisfied smile that the next entry literally retcon its own existence.

There was a Dishonored 3? Seriously?

This is probably a controversial opinion but I gotta get it off my chest.

Danganronpa V3.

It's been a couple years since I've played it but this is my impression I had immediately after finishing it, from what I can remember.

The idea that V3 was actually the 53rd killing game was neat, but the fact that the rest of the twist basically boiled down to "HEY IT'S ALL ACTUALLY JUST A GAME AND YOU'RE A SICK FUCK FOR ENJOYING IT LOL" felt hollow. V3 came out in, what, 2017? The whole "calling out the player for playing the game" bit had already been done by Undertale two years earlier, and had (arguably, at least in my opinion) been outdone by DDLC later that year. The series spent two whole games building up an interesting universe and 3 just shits all over it. From talking to other people, it seems like either people really liked that approach or really hated it, and I guess I fall into the second category.

This might be a little controversial, but I don't like Fear: Extraction Point's ending. It's not that it's a downer ending, the problem is that it's a downer ending that doesn't feel earned. The FEAR helicopter explodes for no reason and Fetel being a ghost doesn't make any sense.

Valkyrie Profile 1's, B Ending.

It's a JRPG but comes with three different difficulties; enemies don't change, it's more related to gear and other things. Endings B and C are available in all, while A is only available on Normal and Hard.

The game takes very liberal inspiration from Norse Mythology and the Valkyrie' duty of finding suitable souls for the, impending battle of Ragnarok. The endings differ based on actions you take in the game. The C Ending has you get punished for being shit at your duty. The A (Cannonical) Ending has a lot of shit happen with your character eventually taking the role as creator.

The B Ending... Is unfulfilling as shit, but unfortunately also goes in line with the game lore. A Valkyrie is woken and tasked to do her job; so you find suitable souls, partake in Ragnarok... And it ends with Freya telling you, good job, you did well, but you need time to heal, and deserve a long rest so they'll be putting you back to sleep until they need you again.

That's true for a huge chunk of Japanese video games, in some way having a bad ending is better just because you at least see some blood instead of very plain "nothing exciting happens, read the walkthrough".

As for bad true endings, SMT5 was really shit. From a design stand point you need to beat a far harder boss before the last dungeon, making the final dungeon and its boss gauntlet a wet fart. Plot wise you get a "good job hero" and then what amounts to a powerpoint slide.

Been a while since I played it so I'm probably getting some details wrong, but the DLC endings for Dying Light were pretty shit.

The end of the normal game was nothing special, but it was okay. People in the tower were safe for the moment, bad guy went nuts and turned his men into zombies, so you fight your way to the top of his zombie tower and kill him, there's progress being made on a cure, you're offered rescue but decide to stay because these are your people and they need you. Alright.

The DLC lets you go to the open world countryside and it's pretty damn fun. You kill zombies, race dune buggies, send people to safety in the tower, etc. There's a cult that keeps people from zombifying and you have to learn their secrets.

But they seemed to have trouble figuring out how to end it. There's 3 endings and they all suck. For some reason, now there's no cure being made after all. And the zombie virus is now something totally confirmed made by the military. And the stuff the cult has is actually some sort of military/government medicine. Which only slows the zombie process, unless you drink a bunch in which case you instantly become a feral zombie with the predator mouth, claws, etc which is revealed to be what happened to the "mother" who leads the cult and why she wears a mask.

You have a choice between 3 endings which are:

1. You help the mother nuke the entire city and countryside, killing yourself and absolutely everyone and everything you've encountered so far. That's it.

2. You refuse to use the nuke, so the mother forces you to drink the cure and you mutate into a predator zombie like her and fight her melee style, as all the people in the tower you saved also turn to zombies and eat each other. Once you beat her, you somehow just wander out of the inescapable containment zone and attack a mother and child at a park, basically dooming the world.

3. There's an army truck on the highway with a nuke in the back. You can do a bunch of convoluted steps to find the detonation codes and then you can just set it off and end yourself, the city, and the game right there without really having to do much of anything else. This is the "secret" ending, but it's not really worth doing except to say you did.

The only survivors are the two spergy autistic brothers you help at various times throughout the game, because you helped them build a rocket powered ram train car and launch them down a blocked tunnel. It's heavily implied they die, but in the end it's revealed they survive and just rocketed right out of the containment zone to safety. You could have just followed right after them on foot or your buggy, had the game allowed it. I understand they wanted to end your character's story but none of the endings are really satisfying at all.

Not sure this was mentioned, and I'm not quite sure it is the worst ending for me (I particularly hated BioShock Infinite ending as others have mentioned) but I was never a fan of Red Dead Redemption's ending because it's not really an ending. Red Dead Redemption 2 did a far better job in terms of setting up the main character's death, but also developing John Marston at the same time, so when you do get to play as him, it's like, yeah we're totally gonna get revenge against Micah with John. In the first game, we don't even meet John's son until Van der Linde's death, so he never gets developed. It also doesn't help that there aren't even that many missions with him anyway.

The other reason I particularly hated the ending of this game was simply because I assumed the game was over after the last Dutch mission. I literally stopped playing the game afterwards because I assumed I beat it. I mean after all they rolled the credits while you rode your horse back home and after the final mission with Dutch. Surely the game is over right? Nope. It continues with his son after killing off the main character and only for what. One mission? You'd think they would have used this as a set up for another game, but again nope.

It doesnt help the design idea for Temple of Eternity was 'the enemies are obstacles and shouldn't be fought'. It's a neat idea but its a bit boring for a whole area considering the solution to failing is just Smoke Ball/Trafuri. Empyrean afterwards essentially being a corridor just makes it worse.
At least I appreciate Law not being an awful route for once

MGS5. Quiet walks off into the sunset to die. A third of your employees are dead from the coof and you personally executed a few of them. Huey fucks over the Diamond Dogs by selling them out to the feds. Sure Skullface is dead but Zero is still out there pulling the strings from behind the curtains. I guess things were supposed to wrap more cleanly but Konami were fed up with Kojima. It was a really depressing note to end the game on. It needed a sequel or DLC that will never happen.

I didn't know that was the ending when I played, so kept on playing expecting another mission to unlock
