The Xeno Games

I know some of y'all will sperg out at me for posting a link from Cucktaku but they actually did some original reporting instead of aggregating from somewhere else:

http://kotaku.com/the-real-story-behind-xenogears-unfinished-disc-2-1796151112

tl;dr: It wasn't that they allocated funds/staff towards the vastly inferior Final Fantasy 8, but they were simply pressed by the deadline due to having a lot of newer staff and stalled production. The execs suggested they end the game after the escape from Solaris (the end of disc 1), and the abbreviated disc 2 was the compromise.

That would have probably made for a better game...
Just have Krelian go straight for the Merkabha, use the Gaetia Key and restore System Deus, maybe leave in the Ft. Jasper bit and have it take a few pot shots to break his shields or something. Then you go in to see just what the hell this thing is...

That would have been like 2 extra hours of actual gameplay instead of a couple of worthless dungeons and Rico crying.

Is the expansion pass for 2 worth it ?

Is the expansion pass for 2 worth it ?
Only if it comes with Torna. I liked Torna better as far as gameplay went because they trimmed the combat system down to be less obtuse and not spread all over the fucking place.

Torna also managed the field skill abilities better and had no gatcha bullshit.

There's a few major objectives in Torna but none of them are bad or tedious at all. The two are kill all 20 Rare Elite monsters and Do All Quests to complete the community circle. The one big quest is the Breaking Green Barrels one but there are more barrels than what you need for the quest.

Also to get to level 99 is rather easy in Torna, once you reach Gormott the first elite that you can kill is a huge bird right by the dock. Kill the bird enough times until you're in your 20's now go across gormott and just wreck shit until you're in your 30's. From there go back to the starter area and bring down the huge fucking fish which are low 40's and you'll get 2-4 levels per kill and do that till you're like mid to high 40's. There's a rare elite flying fish in his 50's in the same area that you kill a few times next.

Once you're in your 50's reach the desert area on Torna and they'll be a huge flying manta ray elite who is level 55. Kill this shit until you're in your 60's

At this point if you've been killing elites you should have close to 16 dead. There's one Elite in the underground section and once you kill him you can now take on the 4 golden bosses.

The 4 golden bosses can be activated by talking to the old woman NPC in the small town with the abandoned houses. From there kill each golden boss a few times and you'll be at level 99.

All this can be done well before the final boss.

Anyone here picking up Xenoflute 3 next month?
Yeah. Expensive month given that Live A Live and AITSF2 come out within the same few weeks of each other.

It's clear the story is a kind of convergence of the first two games, so a part of me hopes this is the finale of the 'Blade' story and they move on to a different Xeno title in a different part of the multiverse.

I'm surprised at how little posts there are in this thread for how popular the series is.

Currently playing through the whole series and I've gotten 10 hours into Xenosaga 3. I can't stress how much of an upgrade it is from the slog that was Xenosaga 2. Encounters take a quarter of the time, the stupid ass combo system is completely AXED, you can buy equipment for party members (huge thing for JRPGs, I know), and the characters don't look ugly as sin. Its hard to keep up with the plot due to the large break I took from being burnt out of the series, but they at least give a large summary of everything that has happened so far.

It really bums me out at the noticeable large budget decrease between this game and Xenosaga 2. It would've been great to see these cutscenes in something more than just a visual novel "press X to progress" format.

This is also peeking ahead, but is Xenoblade 2 REALLY that bad? For seven years I've heard nothing but slander for this game online but I don't think that's necessarily true and I think people outside of the target market for this game got this game and reacted to it horribly.

It's tied with Xenogears as what I think to be the best xeno game, but I, like many find the main protag and his main love interest hard to look and listen to (at least in the beginning). I think what happened was; the Nintendo Switch effect drew much more attention to it, and with that, many people who simply don't like British accents, JRPGs or non-western artstyles instantly dismiss it and call it sexist/cringe/etc.

Finished Xenosaga 3, very much enjoyed that over Xenosaga 2 but I have a hard time easily putting it over Xenosaga 1. Cherenkov from Xenosaga 1 was easily the most compelling character in the trilogy and his whole story is done by the halfway point of the first game. The cutscene where he's on the beach with Shion is probably my favorite scene in the trilogy, it's great stuff. I also still like the weird designs of XS1 just a bit more over the realistic designs of XS3 (I might just like Shion with glasses more) and I actually enjoyed the combo system from Xenosaga 1 a bit more. Bosses (especially towards the end) went on for way too fucking long with barely any difficulty. We're talking about 15-20 minutes PER boss where the final act was almost exclusively bosses and cutscenes. It was just break attack x1000 until the boss finally breaks just to do two or three actual substantial hits. E.S. fights were even worse because you really couldn't do anything outside of heal or attack and every boss either dodged your attacks or countered you for half of your HP.

Despite the second disc going by incredibly fast, I'm surprised at how well they managed to wrap everything up in the story. The ending felt a whole lot more satisfying than I thought this game would have.

Also Citan Uzuki has so much fuckin swag he had to be split up into two characters.

I'm now on to Xenoblade 1 after all of these years. I hope the game is worth all of the hype I've been hearing about it. The only thing I know about it is that the gameplay from here on out is like FF12's if it were good and focused less on automation.

A pc port of Xenoblade X would be cool... Even a Switch port...

Who am I kidding, thats the Wii U's Bloodborne.

I was a huge Xenogears and Xenosaga fan, especially Saga. Never played any of the Xenoblade games, and don't know how they compare. I knew they aren't really connected with the others, but always heard they were kinda meh. Is Xenoblade worth it?

I'd kill for an HD rerelease of the Saga trilogy.
