Disaster There’s a new animated movie about a lesbian space princess from the planet of Clitopolis - "STRAIGHT WHITE MALIENS"

A new animated film about a lesbian space princess has got its first trailer, and it might be the “queer as f**k” thing we need right now.

Lesbian Space Princess comes from the minds of the South Australian writer-director couple (and actual couple) Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese. The film premiered earlier this year at the Berlin International Film Festival where it picked up the Teddy Award. It has since played at other festivals before getting a theatrical release down under.

The film follows Saira (Shabana Azeez) a space princess, who is happily set up on her home planet of Clitopolis (yes, really) with her girlfriend, Kiki (Bernie Van Tiel). “I didn’t exactly have girls knocking down my door before you did,” says Saira who adds, “You are my everything.”

She’s then promptly dumped with Kiki explaining, “I thought dating a space princess would be more fun.” Cue Saira going into a complete meltdown and bawling her eyes out – relatable!

Kiki is then abducted by the ‘Straight White Maliens’, depicted as literal straight white beings. As the Maliens cry “Kill the lesbian,” in comments that don’t recall actual real world attitudes at all, Kiki begs Saira to come save her.

Taking off in the Problematic Ship (Richard Roxburgh) Saira is joined by non-binary musician, Willow (Gemma Chua Tran) in her quest which comes compete with hijinks, romance, and phallic shaped enemies.

Reuben Kaye, Madeleine Sami, Kween Kong, and Jordan Raskopolous also feature in the queer sci-fi comedy.

“We put so much of ourselves into the film and it’s a beautiful combination of us, our anxieties, insecurities and struggles with getting girls,” Varghese has said as reported by QNews. “We hope that queer people and people of colour [watching the film] feel seen. For 86 minutes, you rule the gaylaxy.”

The film has been well received so far, having played at multiple film festivals around the world since February.

In its review, Variety called the film as “idiosyncratic and intermittently amusing,” praising the relationship between Saira and Problematic Ship, which spouts misogynistic lines before developing and growing as a “person” as a result of spending time with the princess.

The entertainment industry bible also applauded the film for the “richness to the worldbuilding.” It also noted the film’s broader animation influences from Rick and Morty and Steven Universe, to Sailor Moon.

Screen Daily meanwhile called Lesbian Space Princess “a colourful and life-affirming crowdpleaser.” IndieWire had good things to say about the film’s attention to detail but called the messaging “clunky.”

The Hollywood Reporter called the “gooey gay adventure” film “a hidden gem” of the Berlin International Film Festival. On Letterboxd one viewer called the film “the best thing I’ve ever seen.” And another said, “this was so funny and stupid i was laughing.” Lesbian Space Princess is also rocking at 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based off 13 reviews.

Lesbian Space Princess is in Australian cinemas on 11 September.

As I was reading the article I was at least picturing maybe a more realistic or at least not childish art style or something anyway based on the plot. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that some fag cartoon shit with a non child friendly storyline is going to look like a kid's show.
I was picturing 1981 heavy metal. In hindsight its kinda obvious that the skill to produce such animation has been long gone from the west.

Comparing 80/90/early 2000's animations to the present is such a quick way of getting depressed.

Whose ready for another High Guardian Spice-tier disaster?

The Owl House and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

And while we are at it, throw Steven Universe with it too.
Okay.

...

... why?

Because by god, this blackrock check is gosh darn delicious *sniff it* hmmm, smells like kid foreskin.

This is ugly as sin.

And like other people have touched on, the infantilized art style is creepy in the context of sexual topics.

Just reading the textual description, it sorta sounded like something that might be funny to get stoned and snark watch. But God, even high off my ass and watching it for lolreddit irony, that art would get old instantly.

Also I watched some of it and the voices are very jarring compared to the art. This is terrible.

Uhm no thanks. I'd rather watch Yagate Kimi ni Naru. At least that anime is drawn well. Or is this meant for little children?
The yuri show or this show? If the former, it's for grown men and/or otaku. If the latter, it's for the same insane trannies and fags currently making it. Lotta shows being drawn nowadays aren't being made for kids as much as adults who wished they were kids again.

Don't forget using the audience as their therapist. It's weird as hell.

See the problem is all those 2010's tumblrettes got art degrees and are now running western animation.
More like they were let in because of affirmative action and horny-ass publishers. Still remember the Oni press contest just being a cover to onboard a Tumblrette they had their eyes on already. Much like Jessica Henderson who was responsible for making Squirrel Girl ugly again.

Is she the one who looks like she can count to potato?
That's the one. I know the OG Squirrel girl was ugly but she was made cute when they found her gimmick to be hilarious. Then the Tumblr period came.

A clear case of Tumblr disease. Where it makes men gay and women ugly and foul. I'll take Liefeld disease any day over this. Funny thing is, other artists try to make her somewhat cuter again during this period of Marvel history even the animations avoid the Henderson version. And then Rivals came out and we got the cute Squirrel girl back.

This is going on in the entire world, even Japan is almost entirely digital now. Trained artists are dwindling.

There was an anime about this.

Not am original thought in their bodies,

I meant this abomination not the anime. Sorry for my sometimes "complicated" writings

There is not an animator alive capable of recreating that glory of fluid motion, light and perfect western form depicting an adult woman in her glory.

Its all pedo bait, cal arts and anime now. This is a dark time for western animation.
