Third world behaviors that piss you off

In Myanmar, they chew bettlenut. So there are constantly people spitting/drippling orange liquid everywhere. On the ground, there are just wet or dried orange stains. You'll see drivers dripping it out of the car windows as it covers the car door. Then they all have disgusting Hunter Biden crack teeth as a result. They had to ban it for luggage handlers at the airports because peoples bags were getting covered in it.

In general, I don't like dishonestly.

Just tell me the fucking price. Don't lie to me and do the fucking barter thing. That shit is tiresome. I don't care if you're overcharging me, I care that you're lying to try and overcharge me more than I am happy to pay you and what you would accept.

People you have to deal with who are like NPC's in a video game and can't adjust or have the authority to do anything but a very limit set of instructions for their role. There's zero flexibility or ability to adjust beyond a very narrow set of parameters. It happens with many people you deal with.

An example that comes to mind is arriving at a hotel before check-in. In normal places, they check if the rooms ready and if it is ahead of time they give you the keys. Not in some third-world countries. You can rock up to a hotel in a poor Latin American country. Whether it's 10 minutes before check-in or two hours. They can't adjust from the check-in time. They lack that agency. So what do they do? They lie. They tell you the room isn't ready and is being cleaned. Even though it is ready. The default is to lie.

They could just tell you that the check-in time is 2pm but no they lie. That is what pisses me off. Just say you can't, just don't lie. This has happened to me many times. One egregious one was a hotel around a courtyard, I want to say somewhere in southern Mexico, but could have been another Central American country. Where every door to every room could be seen. No cleaning going on. No one coming or going. It was in a tour group. There was literally no one at the hotel coming or going. They lie about the cleaning and rooms not ready. Then at the check-in time tell you the rooms are now ready. Despite every single person knowing not a single person had been in or out of the rooms. They were ready the whole time. Yet they lied that they weren't.

It's all so tiresome.

There's a level of, do they think you're stupid? Or are people in those countries that stupid? Or is it just expected everyone is dishonest and that's the normal operation.
