Yeah, pretty much the Rev. Awdry went absolutely hog wild in how he set up the island to have an entire history that includes medieval age kings and the invention of the Sudarian civilization.

Oh, and a batshit number of railways that existed BEFORE the one Thomas and friends are all on.
Frankly, the massive fictional history the reverend created is far more interesting than the actual stuff with the train characters. Aside from the insane 'holy fuck he went there' stuff...which usually involves Henry.

Anthropomorphized scale model vehicles seems like a whole genre of children's entertainment.

I remember there being a show about harbor boats, must have been done with RC boats, not stop motion.

Yeah, that shit was crazy. Henry's origin straights up something out of a spy thriller. Someone tried to steal blueprints for an experimental engine from Sir Nigel Gresley, but stole Henry's plans instead. Thomas was sent to Sodor by mistake right in the middle of WWI!

Speaking of Thomas and war, back in 2009 there was a planned Thomas the Tank Engine live action movie in development set during WWII, directed by Shane Acker. Special effects would've been done by WETA Workshop, but it all fell through in the end. All that really came out of that was this teaser poster.

Did not expect a Thomas thread here of all places. But for anyone interested here's the lore book behind the Reverend's Railway Series: "The Island of Sodor: It's People, History, and Railways". 156 pages of pure Sodor autism written by the man himself.

Legitimately good advice for beginners. I would have suggested painting the baseboard brown or some other Earth color to better simulate dirt, but beyond that the fact he managed to cram in a turntable able to handle large tender engines onto a 4x8 is not a small feat.

Rate me autistic, but I've always loved watching model train tutorials.
If I had the space, time, money and patience I'd make a railroad myself with a christmas village.
