Thomas the Tank Engine Thread - The place for fellow autists to gather around and discuss the rising inflation in Sodor.

I don't understand how anybody could like this show, full stop
I kind of tolerated it when I was a kid, but I always thought that human faces on trains or other vehicles were seriously uncanny and uncomfortable to watch. The human voices and the way they talked in Thomas specifically made that impression even worse, and I remember going out of my way to ask for regular trains when my dad was considering getting us a small set to play with when we were little (prompted by him looking at Thomas stuff). Same reason I didn't like Cars (alongside a number of other things), though that was a different type of autism where I was more mad that they made the windshields into eyes instead of the headlights like I thought would be more interesting. I was genuinely upset because "every car's eyes looked the same" instead of being circles or squares or sideways eggs.

Unrelated final sentence aside, I'm unsurprised that there are adult lunatics who fawn over this show like there's no tomorrow, but I am far more repulsed and disgusted by this shit than I ever could be by something like My Little Pony or Bluey ever having a similar fanbase. At least those shows are visually pleasant to watch, assuming you get used to the weird bug-eyes of MLP; Thomas the Tank Engine constantly looks like a freaky fever dream made by a sick autist who was on the verge of snapping.

Maybe that relatability is why there's such a huge cocoon of autism around this franchise.

My reaction to that information:

Found a rare Asian Thomas sperg. The guy's content is terrible and apparently he started collecting 2 years ago.
Imagine being an Asian dad and finding out your son collects wooden trains. SHAMFUR DISPRAY!

On a related note, does anyone remember the train lolcow trainboy54 from way back when? The guy who's notable for cringe art and lumping Thomas with characters of Phineas & Ferb and such?

Wow I had forgotten about this guy. His basement looks like a serial killer's hideout lmao
While we're talking about more weirdo fans, do you remember the one guy who did videos with a British kid and his style was clearly aping off Doug Walker? he filmed in front of his bed and he did Adventures of Winnie the Pooh like videos.
A lot of the more unhinged channels are gone, which is a shame since I remember one video where a guy in his 40s was playing with a train while his mom and dad argued upstairs. This was YEARS ago, so I barely remember how I found it.

I can't remember whether it was him or not, but I do remember the one video where someone cosplays as Gumby while using his deep voice in a half-assed mishmash of Jigsaw from Saw and Bane (the latter big guy from The Dark Knight Rises for you), and was reading some Thomas the Tank Engine literature while his camera was in a awkward position, looking a bit more like a psychopathic killer's manifesto video (even at times feeling more like the WGN Max Headroom incident of Nov 1987). Again, I don't know if it was him, I could easily be wrong here, but this is something I recalled watching a decade over and I felt sick.

I really liked this show as a kid which probably explains a lot about why I am the way I am today. But one element I liked about it was how expansive the universe was for a kids show. I don't know why but I'm always a sucker for having new characters I haven't seen before, because it makes the world feel bigger than just the main characters that Thomas hangs out with. For some reason I was always more interested in the episodes where Thomas wasn't the main character.

When it comes to Asian Thomas spergs, you can't beat Y NAKAJIMA!

Since we're talking about Asian Thomas weirdness: The official Japanese Youtube channel made a series of shorts that take the Japanese audio from classic Thomas episodes and apply them to the life of a Japanese Salaryman. The vids have English subs if you turn CC's on. Honestly, I think they did a really good job of matching the actors to the characters.

My favorite Thomas episode is the religion one.
