So in the last couple of years, ASMR videos have been getting popular on the internet. ASMR, or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, is a "tickling" feeling people get in their body from "triggers," usually someone whispering quietly or tapping on something. This, in itself, isn't that weird. In this case, it's in a similar vicinity to stuff like hypnosis, but the main intention is to "relax" the listener. There is one thing that makes it creepy though.
Before we get there, here is your average ASMR video:
It can be a fetish. The thing is, as a fetish, it isn't extremely popular, but as time goes by, it gets more and more significant. Not only is the fetish creepy, but the videos and community are laughable, and are also sometimes creepy. Here are some creepy videos:
Here are some laughable videos:
Here are some of the more notable channels:
GentleWhispering - Probably the most famous ASMR video creator. She appeared on an Australian news channel once, in which she described ASMR, while the host noted that her videos were "boring," exemplifying a video where she folds towels.
MassageASMR - Some odd bald British guy who is very well known. Most of his videos feature him massaging women, but he has others. He created a series called "ASMR Mastercrafted," which are arguably his creepiest videos. Here's his reasoning behind "Mastercrafted":
"This is part of a new series i call "Mastercrafted" i think i have earnt this title with the experience of 500+ video creations to be able to call some of my videos this title.
To Earn the title of Mastercrafted many hours must be spent to create the audio & video recording, also they must also be suitable to standalone and be suitable to put onto a platform like itunes ect.
I want to work towards creating some professional recordings suitable to distribute as professionally record ASMR recordings, i only feel like to am getting close to have the experience at arranging audio tracks for this."
Ephemeral Rift: His videos are very out there. His videos include ASMR Let's Plays, candy and beer tasting. He has other videos, many of them using the character Corvous D. Clemmons, in which he fakes a stupid accent and wheres a plague doctor mask, trying to be edgy and creepy. He also has a serious called "Manly ASMR," which is questionably gay (Read: He made a video called "Nut Sack Relaxation," where he fondles a bag of nuts).
With all that being said, discuss.
EDIT: BTW, ED Page https://encyclopediadramatica.se/ASMR (It's kinda bare bones, but it's okay. It has a nice guide to trolling "tickle-heads.")
