Tickle-heads (The ASMR Community)

Ahh... I was wondering if ASMR would ever get picked up by you guys. I've been poking around that community for a good 3 years now, so I've seen the very best (and worst) the ASMR community has to offer.

I much prefer videos where there's no camera footage, only voices. It seems more genuine, like this video, for example. ASMR is a bit like Deviantart - at first it was all about relaxing people, but over time that has changed from relaxation to seduction. And unless you're willing to cater to the broader demographic, chances are you won't go very far with an ASMR-themed channel.

Also - WhisperCrystal's videos are very good, but she did indeed leave the community after it started going downhill.

I found something that baffles me on so many levels:

As an aside, I will state right now I despise it when a person smacks their lips while whispering. Something about that noise just plain annoys me, and it can take me right out of the chilling I was doing.

I stick to either ASMR mp3's or, if I do listen to an ASMR Youtube video, I generally lie down with headphones on with my laptop not facing me (plus I can always use a Youtube to mp3 convertor).

Maybe the visuals on an ASMR video are effective to some people but they add nothing to the experience as far as I'm concerned.

I'm another who is sensitive to ASMR, but my trigger is really just people speaking softly. Most ASMR videos come off kind of tryhard for me and I end up changing videos when they turn into the person crinkling a paper bag or blowing into the mic for an hour. Overly blatant attempts to stir up 'tingles' don't really work for me.

Some cringey videos I've come across:

(this guy's channel is a treasure trove of weird roleplay videos)

I've never watched something on youtube that's made me feel this uncomfortable. How is this meant to be relaxing? Also this guy's kissing a mannequin drunk and it's sold as some kind of de-stressing technique. It's done the opposite.

If I'm brutally honest a few of these ASMR videos are helpful for relaxing, but there's a fine line where they become creepy.

Ah, the ASMR community. I admit I experience this sensation and enjoy watching some of the videos. I prefer the ones from around late 2011/early 2012 when the creators concentrated more on creating a great sound experience instead of competing with each other to create their own mini Hollywood blockbusters.

Two of my personal favorites are Ardra Neala and Olivia's Kissper--They consider their videos to be an art, but they don't seem too horribly pretentious as individuals. I like people like that.

Then you bring in the weirdoes and people from Psyche Truth bringing in their woo, and we have one gigantic clusterfuck.

I also want to state one thing: I genuinely like Maria (GentleWhispering) as a person, but the way she eye fucks the camera has gotten on my nerves for years. I will admit she's very pretty, but her acting is horrible.

This thread makes me feel a bit weird for having never experienced ASMR. I've watched a video before, but I only got 30 seconds in because it was really creepy to me. I don't think it was an especially strange one, just one of those with an Eastern European woman whispering. Maybe that's just not my trigger and my trigger is something else. I don't know.

Ah, don't feel weird. I admit I do experience ASMR and I feel weird admitting I watch videos dedicated to whispering, LOL. I always mute it as soon as someone enters the room. :)

I'll join the sperg pile. I've been listening to ASMR videos for years now, puts me to sleep instantly.

That being said, there is only a few people's videos I can watch, because a large majority of the community is extremely cringe-worthy.

Example of shit that knocks me out:

Example of fucking why does this exist:

Unfortunately, like most communities, the people that jack off to/nuclear sperg over ASMR are usually the first people you encounter.

Explaining this whole thing to people that can't experience it is really difficult. I'm just lucky that I have an SO who knows I'm not spending my free time slapping my lady bits to some guy smearing tuna all over his body while whispering in greek.

I admit I enjoy having some background noise when I'm trying to relax, work, or sleep, but I'm much more into music, ambiance, or LP's. ASMR videos just are not my cup of tea as too many of them simply give me the heebie jeebies. The other ones are noises that actually really agitate me, such as whispering and smacking lips.

Can see how some find it relaxing, though. Just as people can feel at ease listening to birds or the wind, people can receive the same sensation through certain types of ASMR video/sounds.

Except the fetish ones. I really don't understand those ones and quite frankly am okay with remaining ignorant in that department.

I do like ASMR vids, but they must be of a certain type. I like page turning noise, for instance.
But I am aware there was an odd underbelly of fetish type "simulations"...Somewhat sad!

PS
Platypus, that home decorator vid is really ace! And the post-apocalyptic one is...WUT!

Asmr is a strange beastie.

You come to terms that you just like hearing pretty women whisper sweet nothings then you hear something inane like a ratchet and get triggered.

Lets play a bit with poes law:
