Tickle-heads (The ASMR Community)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
All this talk about ASMR, and I am genuinely surprised NONE of you have even mentioned the single most bizarre, creepy, I-don't-even-know-what-it-is-but-it-exists ASMR Video.

I guess I'll do the honors. Behold, Ephemeral Rift's infamous "Get to know me" video.

Ah, the ASMR community. I think my favorite thing to come up out of it are all of the parody and especially weird videos, most of which were posted in the first few pages of this thread.

I actually stumbled across ASMR because I have a thing for voices, so I was digging around the internet for some, uh, content, and found this strangely non-sexual community surrounding shitty acting and a whole lot of weirdness. It's like borderline erotic at first glance but almost nobody is truly interested in it sexually, which is very unusual for an internet fandom. I feel like somebody would have an easier time understanding coming across files hoarded from websites like soundgasm.net instead of... 15 minute long... scratching sounds?

You would think that because the "law of diminishing returns" kinda applies to everything, people trying to force repeated ASMR through these videos would get pretty weak results and not want to do it anymore. However I can understand people using them to relax and fall asleep, but I would much rather drift off to Brian Eno.

There are two possibilities with an image like that, a horribly creepy thing that will haunt my dreams for years, or a post-apocalyptic raider that shouts amusing nonsense and drives a ford f150 with a flamethrower strapped to it.

For my sanity I'm just going to pretend it's the second.

Sorry for the necro, but I thought this was worth posting. So after re-reading this thread, a decided to go take a look back at the ASMR community. Lo and behold, some drama. So some camewhore "ASMRtist" who goes by Hungry Lips has been put on blast recently for obviously catering to the fetish crowd, which triggers the SJW majority of the ASMR community. The other side is made up of white-knights. In the end, a bunch of Redditors found out she was selling porn on Facebook or something like that. Personally, I think her videos are unintentionally hilarious.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCf4li61qo3VNcMdm6EmSD3w (her channel)

Anyways, enough of the drama. I found some more hilarious videos:

The "Skin Care Consultant" returns. Her channel is fucking hilarious, it's worth checking out.

Landwhale awkwardly pretends to be your "middle school crush."

Nothing more relaxing than a half-hour visit with the gynecologist.

Fucking creepy.

Leaked footage of AnimatedJames.

Jonathon Sharkey ASMR.

This isn't really lolcow worthy, but do any of you know of the ASMR chick with a scar on her chest? Her videos never show her face and are just from her bust down.

From the same woman who brought you "Lets Talk About your Vagina" we have this

And this one, which seems normal until she pulls out a drill (which you can see in the thumbnail)

I do enjoy some asmr stuff but a lot of it is of this caliber and just creeps me out.

She seems like the Rain Florence of ASMR.

Yeah, I've heard some bad stuff about her. I don't like her videos.

Anyways, I'm sorry for spamming her videos, but she's just too hilarious. This video is definitely her best by far.

I don't know where to begin. She looks like she could be Ahuviya's bedridden cousin. Who even watches and enjoys these kidnapping videos anyways? There are tons of them out there. Either this is relaxing in some fucked up way, or this is just more fetish shit. The most concerning thing is that one of the suggested videos on this was a video about an actually kidnapping. Now that's fucked up.

Wow. I like ASMR too, but I hadn't seen most of this stuff. There are definitely a lot of ASMRtists who push the envelope with the sexuality, and also fans who want to see suggestive stuff. There's been a lot of controversy in the community about whether such material is appropriate. Many people are worried that sexually explicit content hurts the public perception of ASMR and that people might see it as just a sex fetish and not as a source of relaxation or stress relief.
I used to like that PsycheTruthASMR girl (the one with the creepy mouth sounds and scary drill) but then I got irritated with her and the alternative medicine pseudoscience she spouts on her other channel.

I actually understand the visual aspect, I get super tingly watching someone get a masssage.

And I love very hard, aggressive massage. I like guasha simply because it feels good to me but I get bruised for weeks.

Something funny is the people who record videos of themselves getting hard type massage never seem to like it.

Here's one more relevant to my own autism interests, no-whisper ASMR that's just somebody brushing Hot Wheels.

Ohmygawd, brown Hot Bird at 18:25! Even in played-with condition, that variation is easily a $40 car right there.

43:45... NOOOOO!!! Don't immerse the Hot Wheels Color Racers Corvette Stingray in water! That wrecks the paint! You're only supposed to change color with the supplied "ice" pen plus your hands or breath!

Somehow, Nux looked better when he had cancer.

ASMR is fine by itself, we all know its an audio sensory trigger for some people. But why VIDEO? Why is there people creepily looking down the cameras? Why the roleplay? Why is there a "community"?

I just have this feeling ASMR in general has moved beyond what it was supposed to be about, and now ASMR is like /mu/ crossed with bronies or something. ASMR is more tangentially involved in something you could mistake for a video call phone sex hotline.

I also found this:

Okay, I can't believe I'm coming out of the woodwork to post again, but I actually do love ASMR, even the weird shit like Ephemeral Rift. I just like listening to people talk, that's pretty much the beginning and end of it. I think Rift's edgelord tendencies are kind of endearing, and his Corvus/Margaret videos are prime examples of that. Despite the weird costumes, he comes across as a nice guy.

However..... this. I couldn't make it through this. The post-apocalyptic videos are no problem for me, but this is just..... too much.

also hopefully i embedded that right lol

Anyone else hear the drama surrounding a pretty well known ASMR-tist named Thewaterwhispers? She put out a video looking extremely distressed, describing her abuse from her current fiancé. She then ends the video by saying that after all of that, you have to think that the relationship is worth the abuse and work to fix things. People were legitimately concerned and kind in the comments, offering inspiring and helpful sentiments. Her fiancé (abuser) went into the comments and made fun of people sharing their own experiences and joking about beating and locking Ilse in the basement. He then went into damage control when people went off on him and tried to paint himself as a changed man, though his previous malicious comments really didn't support that. And Ilse did nothing to stop him from berating her subscribers that she "loves" so much.

But how does she respond to this support? She makes a video yelling at the camera and telling people that she's "unique" so she's able to get passed the repeated, ongoing abuse and told people to leave her alone. She treated it like it was her supporters' fault that SHE decided to share such personal details online. She then said people can comment but she won't be reading any of them (sounds like a kid sticking their fingers in their ears and going "lalalala" at any sign of opposing ideas).

I really have no idea what response she expected or wanted, but last I checked she lost tons of subs (probably most of her active viewers) in two days, including myself (didn't really watch most of her videos anyway though tbh). Her videos have been declining in quality for quite a long while but I think this is the real beginning of the end. Some speculate that her abuser is helping to invoke this response on purpose in order to once again isolate her even more from any support so he can gain more control again. I dunno man, it's a mess.

I don't even know if she deleted the videos or did any damage control as I unsubbed and haven't revisited the channel or videos since the day the second was posted. I don't feel like monetarily supporting someone who financially supports her abuser and spits in the faces of people who make that possible.
