I had a psych professor in college that alluded to talk therapy basically being paying to have a friend to talk things out with, and I'm sure he was right. Everyone criticizes psychology academics, but a lot of them do know what's going on, they're just in a different concentration within psychology... and therapists often don't keep up with real research or follow evidence-based practices, Boulder Model be-damned.Therapy is rarely helpful, expensive and the process usually focuses on female-centric processes rather than males at all. Most issues in life can be resolved with communication, and a bit of humbleness. Most therapists (if able) will prescribe you a medication as soon as humanly possible. This also plays into the TikTok self-diagnosis problem since "patients" go into the session already knowing what to say to convey they are X thing. How can a therapist not prescribe you Adderall when you say literally every word or phrase used to describe ADHD?
It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy of addiction and death.
I actually saw who went into psychology for therapy, it was the biggest dumb shits. The level of intelligence between psych undergrads and grads studying for a career within academia was night and day to the point where the former barely were human.
