The concern was that users' private data was sent to China. Which is a fair complaint. Though I don't think it's as big of a threat as some portrayed it to be, but w/e.

Instead of sending user data straight to the NSA, they send it to China first.

People don't quite understand the damage that can be done with algorithmic AI-curated feeds tailored to the specific individual. Cambridge Analytica in 2016 was nothing compared to what's going on now on platforms like X and TikTok. If you control a system like that, you can radicalize (or de-escalate) a wide swath of the population with a few simple AI prompts. It's a Skinner box taken to the extreme.
