Being an elite athlete doesn't make you healthy, regardless of size and shape, it just means that one of the things your body can do at a high level is something that a certain group collectively likes to do as a sport.
Not to mention unless you are a bodybuilder or an elite athlete, odds are that if BMI says you are fat, you are fat.

Eh...not true. it's an okay baseline, but even most nutritionists and physicians admit the BMI is pretty shit at judging overall health and fat. It doesn't account for different body types, muscle content, etc.

In most cases, it's pretty accurate. Studies have shown it actually underestimates obesity in the general population (people with non-overweight weight, but high fat but low muscle mass).

The "different body types" argument just kills me. Humans are all the same shape, except for obvious outliers like dwarves or muscley folks. FAs are stupid to use those outliers to claim BMI is irrelevant. BMI is specifically to let fatasses know they're fat.

I saw a chart that put BMI against actual body fat percentage, and it did in fact show an underestimation of body fat for people with low muscle tone, as @Hollywood Hulk Hogan said. So fat fucks get to be right about BMI not being entirely accurate for them, but in the direction they don't want.:story:

I find it hilarious that people this deluded can continue to come up with excuses for their behaviour. Anything at all, just so long as it doesn't require introspection or personal responsibility. Once upon a time I was a great deal heavier than I am now, I [mostly] fixed it by controlling what I eat and getting more exercise, it's not magic. I have food issues and eating in a way I later found out is referred to as 'The Warrior Diet' [I only eat during 1 time window a day] lets me follow my natural inclination *and* stay in good shape, between that and my weight-lifitng/exercise routine I'm doing pretty damn well. It isn't an easy thing, but buck passing onto anyone and anything you can isn't going to change a goddam thing. How can you fix a problem you won't even admit to having?

Isn't weight one of the things factored in for an anorexia diagnosis (as in if you're overweight, you're not going to be treated for anorexia), or am I talking shit?

Because doctor's trying to prevent someone from having more health problems is so problematic

It's kind of complicated, actually. It is factored in the classical sense. One of the symptoms of anorexia is being underweight, but in some cases there are overweight people who will start dieting and slowly develop all of the other symptoms - excessive food restriction to the point of starvation, fear of weight gain and what have you - so if it was caught soon enough then an overweight person could be considered anorexic, but they will lose that weight pretty quickly.

So being overweight can be unhealthy in even more ways!

Normally, eating is associated with relief from anxiety. A lot of people who are fat are comfort eaters, and stuff their faces because they are anxious. In people with anorexia, this is flipped around; restricting relieves their anxiety, even to the point of malnourishment. Both are responses to anxiety. There's also a genetic link to anorexia. So, I'm a touch skeptical of someone who is seriously overweight suddenly restricting themselves to that point.

So, even though nobody "weightshamed" you on your visit to the hospital, you still live in fear of anyone saying something unkind about you being fat?

Thin privilege is not having paranoid social anxiety. Ten bucks says this person treats their anxiety by eating more.

I vaguely remember from health class that it's possible to be bulimic and still be overweight. In fact, you can even gain weight from the bingeing periods.

Why somebody would overlook the more common occurrence of being bulimic and overweight in favor of being anorexic and still overweight, I have no idea.

Oh wait. It's because crazy.

Anorexia is for the cool kids. I guess bulimia is déclassé or something.

Somehow "abundant" and "succulent" sounds worse than "morbidly obese"
