Nowadays, many people claim to "identify" as whatnot, be it a gender, race, species or weight.
Basically, it means that what one is mentally is different from what one is physically. That is often called "trans" too as opposed to cis (when mental and physical identity align).
But, there is a logical flaw inside it: The concept of "identifying as" is based upon the assumption that one is what one wants to be.
If I want to be a superhero, dress up as one, act like one, name myself like one and start to believe to be one and therefore "identify" as a superhero, I still would not be a real superhero since they do not exist in real life, or would I? No, I could not become an attack helicopter or a three feet tall cartoon duck either.
You are not you want or believe to be, you are only what you are. Or?
