Oh god.The pontification on Eurovision has arrived. Episode guest is Hugo-winning editor Navah Wolfe; @Boston Brand are you familiar? She's reeeeeally into Eurovision.
He freely admitted not really getting it and mostly enjoying the spectacle. He liked Finland, Moldova, Estonia, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Lithuania and maybe Greece but didn't care for the UK or Germany and was meh on Spain. The guest called Finland's song sexist and transphobic lol. Speaking of not getting it, that was his reaction to Serbia (my personal favorite) though Dany and the overly enthusiastic guest liked it. They all though Ukraine deserved the win and were surprised at how poorly France did (electro-folk has given way to folk-rap). Nothing that Todd didn't tweet the night of really, though none of them even bothered to mention how terrible Australia was. Dany liked Romania, guest liked the Czechs.Oh god.
If his OHW and TW videos are anything to go by, Todd’s understanding of European music culture is quite limited (and Jesus Christ I wish he would stop trying to do English accents—although he’s never quite hit the level of irritation in me the way Mic the Snare did when he kept referring to the Beatles as ‘the blokes’ in a really odd way that no British person would ever use that word).
That might be the ugliest group of people I’ve ever seen.

He doesn't really. Her poppiest songs with killer hooks, he likes. The only Gaga song I can recall him really complimenting was Edge of Glory which is very 80s power pop. Todd also doesn't get or like Björk, even Tori Amos is a little avant garde for his tastes. He's a pop and country fan who likes 70s prog rock and 90s indie rock, not a sophisticated connoisseur.First off, as a Serbian, I'm offended. If he likes Gaga and her art pop, this would be right in his alley. Song is using washing hands as an allegory for many things in life, including COVID prevention.
Second, we know why Ukraine won and its not about the song. So fuck him.
Yeah I would have been shocked had the public vote not been overwhelmingly for Ukraine. Their entry was fine but I don't think it was the best. Bit of a weak year overall IMO.Second, we know why Ukraine won and its not about the song. So fuck him.
You're thinking of the right guy. Although everyone who was anti GamerGate was rallying to defend Sarah.I vaguely remember this guy during GamerGate, up to and including defending pedo tranny SRHButts.
Or am I thinking of somebody else? Feels like a lifetime ago, at any rate.
I agree, Todd has his lolcowish moments but he does put in effort and I don't begrudge him his success. If someone like Linkara or Film Brain, who half-ass everything, got a million hits, I'd just wonder why.
I mean, is it possible that Olivia Rodrigo is that kind of pop rock like U2 that's the only type of rock that hits the top 40? When I hear people complain about rock, I start to feel like it's those kids wearing band shirts and denim jackets with patches that dig through record stores trying to find something like the next Black Sabbath or Deep Purple or Led Zepplein or The Who or Soundgarden that isn't mainstream or something.Man, Todd must be fucking starved for good rock if he's thinking of putting "Brutal" at #1 if it was longer. I'd put it near the top but not at #1. People who actually master and produce rock music should produce rock-inspired songs because that and "good 4 u" feel polished as fuck. Get Steve "sandwich" Albini on there or something.
I used to be that kind of person but I'm not anymore. As much as I do want rock to be mainstream again, that would mean going viral on TikTok (or recently, getting popular from a show on Netflix). I don't want that kind of exposure. Feels like a Monkey's Paw kind of situation.I mean, is it possible that Olivia Rodrigo is that kind of pop rock like U2 that's the only type of rock that hits the top 40? I don't know, people complaining about music always seems to come across as complaining about something they like not being super popular if you ask me.
Well, you oughta look at the rest of his Best list then.Man, Todd must be fucking starved for good rock if he's thinking of putting "Brutal" at #1 if it was longer. I'd put it near the top but not at #1.
