Well I like at least one of those songs but I don't recognise the guest; still, this could be interesti--

Oh. Oh dear. It's the walking embodiment of idpol. Thanks for the reminder of why I stopped being a paypig and have gone from "new podcast ep, listen now" to "I'll get around to it, maybe". Guests who love themselves and the sound of their own voices in combination with Dany constantly interrupting Todd the few times he actually does talk have dulled what enthusiasm I had.

Sounds like SvS hasn’t figured the chemistry of hosts and guests. Or they lost the formula.

I've been watching Todd since around the time he joined Channel Awesome. His videos back then were funny and oftentimes informative, but nowadays it's apparent he's just going through the motions in his videos so he can get those Patreon dollars. I honestly wish he would just stop the Pop song reviews and just focus on One Hit Wonderland and Trainwreckords. It's been obvious for a while that he doesn't care about current pop anymore and OHW and Trainwreckords are where he puts most of his effort now anyways.

Also, his politics are cringey and basic as fuck and I wish he would stop shoehorning them into his videos and his Twitter feed.

Pop songs are just not what they used to be. We don't have any super **quirky** artists like the Black Eyed peas anymore, or hell, where's Jason Derulo at? The songs are just boring and there's not really much to talk about besides like the politics surrounding them or some world event or whatever. It's all so tiresome.

When did things drop off?

I am certainly not longing for a comeback. I just at least want an entertaining song to come around that's just as bad as "Wiggle" or something ("Earth" by Lil Dicky is the only one I can think close of coming to it).
It's easy though: The 2016 election.

He did talk about that exact comparison on Twitter, but tbh Gangnam Style wasn't half as ubiquitous as the Macarena and didn't last nearly as long in the zeitgeist. Another popular comparison was to the Ketchup song but that wasn't a thing in the US so it wasn't really a consideration.

I'd agree that it rose to the same heights but for a far less time. If you aren't counting the USA, I wonder how the crazy frog stacks up.

I only watch OHW anyway, but again, pop in general has been in a rut for years now both the good and the bad, to say nothing of other genres. I’m sure once things get more interesting in that field, his pop reviews would be more of a watch again.

I had to seek out Gangnam style to hear it when it was big to hear it. Macarena I could not escape, even though I was a young kid with parents who were very "mindful" of the media that was consumed around me. It was in school, inescapable on TV and the radio, there was no where you could hide from it, I have doubts even the Amish could escape it. Having Todd invite Ayala and Chapman on the podcast definitely makes him look like a tranny chaser. Despite what those two say, they're still women. Ayala looks like a dorky tomboy and last I saw Chapman, she looked like the vocalist of some metalcore band thanks to that ironically horrible mullet. Maybe he likes frustrated tomboys that think they're men?
