That was a joke. Remember when Todd made those instead of opining pompously to cater to his bubble?(the only thing against this second theory would be how he did a Trainwreckords on Will Smith a few days after Will slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, and when somebody mentioned the slap on Twitter, Todd’s response was “What? What slap? That’s the first time I’m hearing about this.”)
Performative progressivism and girldick-fellating aside, his entire early life was comfortable courtesy of his conservative dad, who worked for the IRS. Robert Munson married a Vietnamese refugee (like an actual war refugee who came to the US illegally, and whose brother died in a Communist death camp), had two boys and supported his family with a boring but cushy government job in nice, safe, suburban Virginia Beach, VA. Todd described his childhood as quite pleasant, with his mom striving to be an all-American homemaker (though I believe she too got a gov't job eventually). He mentioned his maternal aunt also living near by where he grew up, who owned a nail salon because of course, but who probably came over on a family visa. He went to Princess Anne HS and then the private, Christian-affiliated Lynchberg College (now the University of Lynchberg and probably not long for the world with declining enrollment), studying Journalism and music theory, then got a masters in education or teaching/pedagogy/whatever to teach like 3rd grade math that he did fuckall with. The point is, he's lived in NYC and LA long enough to resent the normalcy of his upbringing despite the advantages in life it gave him. He now considers liking country music to be left coast rebellious, so outre and daring.
They must have fucked up somewhere along the line though; you don't end up with both sons being flaming liberals (and his brother married to a furry) without some major daddy issues. And those issues are seeping into his job.
