(the only thing against this second theory would be how he did a Trainwreckords on Will Smith a few days after Will slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, and when somebody mentioned the slap on Twitter, Todd’s response was “What? What slap? That’s the first time I’m hearing about this.”)
That was a joke. Remember when Todd made those instead of opining pompously to cater to his bubble?

Performative progressivism and girldick-fellating aside, his entire early life was comfortable courtesy of his conservative dad, who worked for the IRS. Robert Munson married a Vietnamese refugee (like an actual war refugee who came to the US illegally, and whose brother died in a Communist death camp), had two boys and supported his family with a boring but cushy government job in nice, safe, suburban Virginia Beach, VA. Todd described his childhood as quite pleasant, with his mom striving to be an all-American homemaker (though I believe she too got a gov't job eventually). He mentioned his maternal aunt also living near by where he grew up, who owned a nail salon because of course, but who probably came over on a family visa. He went to Princess Anne HS and then the private, Christian-affiliated Lynchberg College (now the University of Lynchberg and probably not long for the world with declining enrollment), studying Journalism and music theory, then got a masters in education or teaching/pedagogy/whatever to teach like 3rd grade math that he did fuckall with. The point is, he's lived in NYC and LA long enough to resent the normalcy of his upbringing despite the advantages in life it gave him. He now considers liking country music to be left coast rebellious, so outre and daring.

They must have fucked up somewhere along the line though; you don't end up with both sons being flaming liberals (and his brother married to a furry) without some major daddy issues. And those issues are seeping into his job.

Todd starting the whole video with "Kid Rock endorsing Mitt Romney is far better than endorsing Trump" told me the review wasn't worth watching.
News flash, Todd: people come to your videos to watch you rip apart pop music. And talk about one-hit wonders. And talk about legit albums that stopped people's careers. He's gone into full jaded old man mode, moreso now that he's 40. This is sad.
What's funny is something in said in the Nickleback episode: "I watch and enjoy plenty of political Youtubers but I am not one myself. If I started adding 20 minutes about capitalism to the end of my videos, it would suck and you would be able to tell."

Well you need to remember he's spent a decade with Lindsay and her crew telling him what does and doesn't count as political grandstanding, and what's just saying what needs to be said. He's been saying political shit for ages, but he doesn't count that as he believes, like other liberals, he's just saying 'common sense facts' rather than spewing shit.

It's funny seeing Todd claim that Kid Rock isn't a grifter, as if he didn't go full QuarterPounder regarding Budd Light, and then went to damage control on his podcast claiming that he loves trannies.

If that isn't a grifter, I don't know what is.
At this point, the term "grifter" has been warped from "person who vocalises views they don't believe it for money" into "person what says things I don't like and gets money from people for it".

If Todd claims that he "loves" pop music, then why does has he spent the past fifteen years bitching and moaning about it? Sounds to me that he hates it,
What, have you never heard of Star Trek or Star Wars fans? ;)

Remember the opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy.

Maybe for you. But I’ve always seen “grift” as “somebody always trying to promote themselves, their brand, or their scheme, while doing anything and everything to line their pockets, quality be damned”. The only real question is how lucrative it is, how blatant it is, and if the grifter really believes in the shit they’re pushing.

If Kid Rock did it with Bud Light, I never really paid attention. But I’m willing Todd is the kind of guy who’d fall for a grift, and refuse to admit he’d been played.

Goddamnit. Politics.
I tried watching this and I could only stand about 10 minutes of it. He's not even critiquing the music, this whole video is just a vehicle for him to rant about how EBIL MAGA is and how stupid Kid Rock is for this. Watching this just strengthened my belief that leftists exist in their own delusional world where Dylan Mulvaney isn't a creepy skinwalker and Trump is a white nationalist who will bring about a Fourth Reich and not just a 90's Democrat.

I've been watching Todd for years because I genuinely enjoy his critiques, and while he's always worn his political leanings on his sleeve he used to be pretty good about not making politics the focus of his videos. With this one, he's gone completely mask-off and the result is pure cringe. I hope after the election he cools down again.

Jungle rat mongrel spawn always have racial identity issues too, his resentment towards whites comes out of nowhere somewhat regularly

That’s all assuming Trump wins. If Kamala wins, it’ll just be the most smugness you’ll ever see in your life.
Considering all the ORANGEMANBAD across all the media since 2015 never died down, we are facing either 4 more years of REEEEEE or 4 years of smug leftwing totalitarianism with a side of REEEEEEE telling us how much worse it would be if the horrible orange man had won.

4 years of shit from Tard and his fellow travellers either way.

So how has Todd's enthusiastic dive into political commentary been received by his audience after 6 days? A resounding meh tbh. The views are about 20% lower than a usual video (podcast musings don't count) and 50% of an average "successful" video.

The best comparisons are seen in other videos about country within the last two years, a genre his audience by and large does not give a fuck about no matter how hard he tries to make it relevant to popheads. His previous more politically oriented videos like the Rich Men video or his comments of Try That in a Small Town are also similar in their tepid reception. He doesn't care. The vast majority of views on a video happen within the first 4 days, as seen on SocialBlade, and this one has low rewatchability because of the political bilge anyway.

It hasn't really affected his Patreon, but nothing much does except year end videos. All he needs to do is maintain and that might honestly be too much to ask if the political brain rot takes hold.

Interesting sidenote: remember that walking stereotype of an LA douchebag I mentioned previously who has been writing for Todd on the Justin Timberlake Trainwreckords? He's baaaaack

His writing byline does not appear in the PSRs, podcast stuff, Kendrick/Drake videos or OHW that I can see, just these two TWs and they are worse for them. This guy is a comedian btw

ETA: the next Song vs Song choices are Memory vs I Dreamed a Dream, and musical theater means either Angelina or Lindsay guesting. Also, since Amydog had surgery, Todd is selling requests on Patreon.

I know Todd has personally been a shitlib but his youtube channel has always been top tier, plus his channel being about re-examining old music its way more difficult to insert politics without being annoying. I haven't watched any videos from the last year or two so he's probably changed but even legitamtely politically charged albums like Katy Perry's Prism he didn't feel the need to editorialize and in the older vids its harder not to agree with the views he does express like with the Will Smith one people mentioned, examining it through a racial lens really is way more of a progressive angle than i bet kiwifarmers realize, like if he tried putting out the exact same video back in 2012 people would have chased him off of youtube. Thats also probably why he has managed to do so much better than most of the rest of the former CA people, his channel and theme really had way more material and way more unique than "film critic X"

its pretty neat that Todd found someone that still acts like its 2015 to be a part of his videos. My favorite part about guys like that is how their persona flips if you do anything that offends them like mock trannies.

The devolution of both Todd and Fredrik Knudsen (from Down the Rabbit Hole) has led to the KF threads of fans in mourning for what was.
