Any interesting stories from those agents? I'd love to hear how Tony and his ilk would react to them.
I don't want to powerlevel too much, so take these generalities with a grain of salt. Believe them or not as you like.
- They loved W. Loved him. Respectful, kind, generous, never made ridiculous demands of them. They were sorry to see him go.
- They also loved Bill Clinton. Rowdier than Bush, as you'd expect, but surprisingly respectful -- that Arkansas good ole boy upbringing, most likely. The only problem with Bill was that it was impossible to keep a schedule around him, because when he was visiting somewhere he was very apt to extend the trip two or three days on a whim just to take in more sights or meet with other people or, yeah, party a bit.
- They hated the Obamas, both of them. They had no use for members of the military, paramilitary, or LEO services and did not bother to hide it at all. The general atmosphere was that Barack and Michelle both treated them like servants, expected them to do menial shit that had nothing to do with their security duties, and got fairly nasty if anyone tried to interact with them. I was under the impression Barack was more aloof and Michelle was more obnoxious, but no, they were both equally shitty.
- And here's my favorite: they all hated and were frankly terrified of Hillary, all the way back to the vets who'd had her detail in '93. She was
way worse than the Obamas, slopping over into outright verbal abuse. If she hadn't been First Lady, and if she hadn't been the highest profile Democrat in the country while serving in the Senate, and if she hadn't been Secretary of State then de facto nominee, she would have been a punishment detail. But they couldn't do that -- you can't put lousy agents on someone that big. They were
dreading Hillary's Presidency.
