It’s controlled by a PWM signal from the ECU, as well as an enable, fault feedback, a temperature sensor and maybe also a tach signal.truth is, if i could jimmy rig that connector on my alternator so that my alternator puts out a steady 14.5 volts, i would prefer that.

But setting it to 14.5V continuously is a bad idea, when the battery is hot (under the hood, in Texas) that high of a charge voltage would boil the battery and destroy it in hours. That’s why the ECU tapers it down after a few minutes of running.

YOU CAN TURN THE BELT/ALTERNATOR WITH ALMOST ANY KIND OF ENGINE, AND YOU CAN CHARGE A CAR BATTERY.
