Someone please tell young men and woman they can act "feminine and masculine" and that was never illegal. Asked an NB to explain why they couldnt just be their sex and do the exact same things and got nothing sensible in return.

I know this is Kiwifarms so many will disagree with the distinction I'm about to make, or its relevance, but I think there is a difference between the gay and lesbian movement and even homosexual transsexuals, as they all existed in the 90s-early 00's, and the imagined community of "Queer Leftists" that exists right now. The latter is an ideological movement not unlike a cult, but I would actually say they are closer to a fandom than anything. If you have ever had any contact with hardcore fans of something, be it trekkies, star wars nerds, LOTR nerds, you can see how many of them develop their own lexicons of terms and in jokes and shared beliefs based purely on memetic mutation and online conversation. In fact, I would say that the Non-binary/genderfluid/general queer but not actually hardcore trans movement is a lot of the same women who were the Superwholock fandom (edit: also fujoshis probably) and ancillary properties, that AGP creepos and incels have colonized not unlike the process that created the bronies.
Obviously the conceptual framework of all this exists in things like gay rights, feminism and social justice rhetoric, but the specific internet subculture that is breadtube, queer twitter and anarcho-communist leftist online generally collectively share memes and ideas and generate a culture that gives its most zealous supporters moral authority in online spaces, or at least did for a few years when they were in their heyday as the internet cracked down on the edgelord fuck-your-feelings culture. I think that edgelord culture is a key example actually, there was a zenith of that sort of comedy and the idea of edgy freespeech online for a few years before real world examples of incels and rightwingers actually enacting violence (shootings, driving a truck through a crowd, etc.) popped the bubble and resulted in a huge increase in moderation and control of speech. That was the perfect environment for the queer leftist name-and-shame/cancellation + kindness and validation combo.
Now the real world sexual crimes (and also, terrible movies and TV) of the "queer" movement are breaking down the queer leftist bubble and suddenly they are finding all the enabling institutions turning on them as the movement becomes toxic.

It is mystifying. Social tolerance of GNC looks and behavior in the West has never been higher. Being a total swishy & gushy glitter tossing fag is tolerated. Men wearing makeup and painting their nails is tolerated. Being an androgynous or even outright masculine looking/dressing/behaving/working female is tolerated. All "gender expressions" are hybrids now. There's very little 100% trad gender anything (work, roles, etc) and yet they're all so hyper fixated on "gender". And costuming up and performing it. The only thing I can think of is that with the young people there's no concept of having a long life where you change as you mature. Or maybe there is a concept, but they're scared to death of it and want to stop time (and customize their "presentation of self") right where they are.

First and foremost the film is very little about Gender or trans issues because when it was made, these things were certainly not fucking mainstream.
What it mostly was about was the contrast of culture between the Catholic community of Northern Ireland, with the hotbed of diversity and mixing in London.
Dil, the homosexual male transvestite character, is introduced to Fergus, played by Steven Rea, who has no idea that Dil is male or a transvestite, due to the reality that Catholic upbringings frequently shelter people from such things.
Everything about Fergus’s values are challenged.
The humanization of the black British soldier he is expected to kill.
Falling in love with a man, a man certainly outside of his realms of experience and perception.
The personal torment over is he really fighting for the right side, or are the hated British not really that much different to him?
The film of course was designed to shock and push boundaries.
But the main boundary it wanted to push, like “Harry’s Game” was to explore the psychological effects of being a PIRA volunteer.
He is a guerrilla fighter, face to face with a legitimate soldier. Learning how his values are not to far from the a legitimate soldier and how they engage and respect the rule of warfare and rules of engagement within NI.
In turn learning the challenges of being a homosexual soldier at the time, people forget that being gay was illegal in the British army at the time, so while it is not fully explored, it is strongly implied that this is why Dil lives so committed as a woman.
Dil himself is portrayed in a very stark and clear light, this is a deeply committed transvestite, who is treated as a woman thoroughly and even by men who are aware that he is not really a woman.
The killing of Miranda Richardson’s character is indeed revenge over the boyfriend in Belfast and to protect and in his hope, to free Fergus from his commitment to the IRA.
This isn’t the act of an insane murderous troon, but of someone hurt and angry, but also flung into a desperate situation they don’t fully understand, with probably the most dangerous people they will ever encounter.
Inadvertently Dil is successful in freeing Ferguson to a certain extent, because Fergus is willing to take the blame for the murder.
The future for them is uncertain, but seems optimistic as the film closes with Dil visiting Fergus in prison.
This is the least transphobic in that regard film of its fucking generation and anyone who says different deserves a fucking nail bomb out of lack of respect for those who suffered in NI as a result.
That way anyone who encounters them will know they are a dirty pedo who fell foul of the RA.
This kind of vigilante justice was usually sanctioned across the paramilitary organizations and even the RUC and British army turned a blind eye.

Think the world has become much more about the spectacle especially the west. I can't remember where I read it, but someone was describing it as the "profilic" anchoring of identity, as in social media profile. As "genderfuck" and punk as these NBidiots try to be, everything they do is tailored to social media relevance and virality. Hell, it's not even just genderspecials, look at how Keffals or Hasan Piker have fucking mental breaks every time they have a bad stream or get criticized.
