Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

There's a Transformers inspired RPG that was released in 2021 called Commandroids. It's based on the 1980's cartoon. However as usual with RPG's today the authors don't get the IP they're trying to run. You don't get to play as a Transformer, but as a human. They sort of go with a transtector thing. On page 55 they talk about Relationships and Queerness, because of course they do. Page 56 they talk about kid relationships, one of which is "love". Teen relationships also has love relationship,

Artwork inside is basically Deviant Art IDW fan art. Rules are basic so that drugged up trannies can understand it. I will give it to them though, they managed to continue on with a bad idea for nearly 400 pages.

Can't even cup up with their own weapon designs
Just sad.PNG
Kickstarter was a bit of a shit show. They also used copyright images and just recoloured them.

Got Jhiaxus in-hand, very happy with this one, worried about the torso but his alt mode sucks so I probably won’t have to worry about it. Very surprised his hands are the posable leader/commander ones though I’d wager those were meant for Vector.

Aside, I heard we’re getting more of the Mayhem Attack Squad for Amazon, with Ruckus and a more traditional Bludgeon mentioned.

I saw that those Super7 TF ULTIMATES came in after much delay, how are they?

Kek, first image is fetish-fuel. Simon Furman was right, female TFs are a mistake.

Forgot another update to bring up a while ago. I still don't know if this is gonna be a good thing or if somethings gonna turn out wrong but I got a used copy of siege/earthrise rumble and frenzy now. I got them for cheap, too. I kept holding off on getting the various box sets because resellers kept hawking the individual figures for like 20-30 each or some shit for a while and the sets even more but now that the studio series stuff is out (and just as if not more impossible to find) I decided I'd get the stumpier ones since the prices went down and I realized the studio series ones lack the pegs to port them in anywhere meaning you either need to stand them next to soundwave or have them in his chest, not stored on the back of ER soundwave, a figure that has carefully placed ports so he can hold 3 cassettes on his back. I can deal without the on model back guns and piledrivers that there's nowhere to store, as much as it kinda hurts. Stumpy fuckers have some kind of incredible "energy" to them, not a bad one though.

it's just a bootleg arcee lmao. Unless you mean the guy trying to get in a relationship with her or whatever in which case that happened in g1 but with a male robot and human gf lmao

I'm coming out as a transformers fan
My parents kept showing me 90's and 80s shit all the time. All day they would play the fuckin dvd of terminator 2 twice a day and one of their fav cartoons were tmnt but i grew attached to gen 1 transformers
I watched armada, prime and that little rescue bots show with little brother
My favourite design of optimus was armada.

I'm planning on maybe getting back into it if i menage to balance free time after construction work and my questions are:
Is g1 actually good alongside prime and armada or is it nostalgia shades?
Are there any good comics especially for starters?

Imagine "coming out" as a fan of a Super popular series that's film adaptations got milked to death several years ago. I mean there WAS that rough spot of popularity during like that span of the 90s before beast wars happened but since then i think it's been pretty much just a universally well known/liked thing even if the people in charge fuck up.

Is g1 actually good alongside prime and armada or is it nostalgia shades?
Nah they're all pretty good, more a matter of what you're looking for media or figure wise. G1 cartoon was standard low budget TV stuff for most of it animation wise leading to insane animation errors, g1 toys (that arent remakes of the designs but the actual og toys) were almost entirely retrofitted/resused pre-existing figure lines from years beforehand. This leads to weird shit where you can get a galactic man from toyco used for like 30-40-ish dollars but then people want over 100 for the thing in purple as Shockwave. A lot less articulation with the g1 figures because they were almost entirely transforming toys for kids that were meant to be kinda durable.

Since I'm just some dumbass online that likes cool figures and not some "influencer" or whatever I'm pretty tight on budget when it comes to my hobbies the last decade or so with these constant price hikes and hype of "value going up". by certain parties. I'm not like an "expert" by whatever arbitrary standard some people put out there but my advice in terms of transformers shit is to just go for whatever interests you since there's like over 40 years worth of transformers shit now, INCLUDING unofficial and fan made custom stuff. Look for some kinda discount or shoot for used ones around 30-40 dollars for the larger older line figures as that's what they tend to run when ebay scalpers or people not basing shit on "the online market value" aren't squatting on them.

In terms of comics I'm even more so in no way any kind of expert but I know, the continuities in those are REALLY different from the shows in some cases. Only comic I've heard bad things about writing wise IIRC was parts of IDW's run. That and some of the insane goofy shit from the marvel ones like the car wash story which was less "bad" and more "what the fuck is this how did they come up with the idea of an evil talking bat taking over a car wash" kind of talk. Some people that post in this thread I know read like the entirety of various comic series rather than some chunks like I did so they'd probably be a bit more helpful on what comic to try out.

I saw that those Super7 TF ULTIMATES came in after much delay, how are they?
They came out months ago, didn't they? Unless you mean like specifically the newest wave of them in which case they're probably just like every other wave witht he weird stunted articulation compared to every other ultimates release. I'd recommend getting the yolopark g1 figures that run the same-ish MSRP over the ultimates, though they only got a g1 optimus and megatron out right now in that scale. Still haven't gotten around to getting the two because I've been waiting for any kind of discount that still hasn't come yet.

Good to know that cartoons are actually of quality. I really loved the first episodes of armada and it's theme song was forever cemented into my brain.
I know it's silly to "come out" and Idk about you but here transformers is treated as boomer stuff. Kids don't even watch anymore old western shit, they stare at youtube slop and consume anime. If you asked these nerds their favourite media i bet you they will sperg about star wars, lord of the rings, harry potter and naruto. That's like the main 4 ones. God forgive if you mention transformers and you might be for them taking the autism train

I have some old figure of optimus prime. I'm not sure what the fuck is this from, if this is even official and what's this supposted to be and why he has these weird wings.

Also for the toys, there are quite few there, but not too many or either shit ton of ripoffs. If anything i'd want to get myself armada optimus and galvatron (or was it megatron i'm not sure) mainly for posing and life art reference.

This is Beast Hunters Optimus.

That's not (too) old, it's from beast hunters, last season of prime. Weirdly nearly everything from beast hunters figure wise had no appearance in the show save for like shockwave who was just the normal prime shockwave. I think Optimus prime from prime had a jetpack like that at one point though even if he didn't have the weird freaky teeth truck. I remember when this one came out people kept repainting him into evil versions of optimus or some adaptation of the Michael bay megatron due to him turning into a truck in the third one of those.
EDIT: SHIT SNIPED

In armada he's megatron when green and galvatron when white, but in the JP version he's just always megatron until energon happens. The US version of energon calls the blatant galvatron megatron till he turns purple which he's then called galvatron.

Armada megatron/galvatron, the original figure at least, infamously has non-functional legs as cool of a figure as it is. They did a remake of him recently that has legs that work but is smaller and has fucked up shoulders and missing detail paint in really weird spots for the paint to be missing. There's a ton of unofficial mods to try and restore normal shoulder movement. As weird as they end up looking at times I gotta give people credit for working that kinda stuff out. There's also mods to give the original armada megatron functional legs but almost all of them require butchering some unrelated figure with similarly sized legs.

Welcome brother, there’s an Armada nostalgia wave going on and there was a more serious Armada comic from Dreamwave.

For comics, it depends on what you want, Simon Furman and Bob Budiansky are the best writers the brand ever had, the original Marvel run is still the best “long run” TF comic, it’s squarely G1 but as it went on it became something else, really diving into the horrors of the Great War and building the cosmic mythology that got ported into every series. It’s good shit, definitive characterizations for a lot of the less popular characters. Galvatron in particular is much more impressive than his cartoon counterpart.

For more modern stuff that isn’t crap, I recommend the “ation” mini series from IDW, starting with Infiltration. IDW took an “Ultimate” approach initially and it kicked ass. Early IDW TF books rocked, however I advise stopping after Maximum Dinobots as they fired Furman and dropped all his plot-threads, hiring a retarded aussie who made his Sonichu a main character (this happens a lot onward)

Disregard any TF comics by the following people, James Roberts, Mairghread Scott, John Barber, Brian Ruckley, Maggs Visaggio, Mike Costa or Shane McCarthy. These people are hacks.

The movieverse tie-in comics were also high quality, working hard to make the films fit together. Prime/WFC also had tie-in comics and books that worked hard to mend the two.

Is g1 actually good alongside prime and armada or is it nostalgia shades?
G1 cartoon ranges from crystalized perfection of retarded 80s toy commercial cartoon like GI Joe, to some serious shit like The Movie
the anime-only stuff tries to be normal anime but still Transformers around in goofy ways a lot

G1 comics are pretty dank, and there's the UK line too which sorta adds a side-universe to them

That’s the other cool thing about Marvel G1, you can pick and choose your content. It has three different endings to choose from, (Regen, G2 and Classics) there’s side stories with exclusive characters, a prequel story and it’s been getting dedicated figures/homages.

Cartoon Rodimus lamented his lot in life, comic Rodimus?
IMG_4339.jpeg

Becomes Supreme Commander and seconds after his ascension does this while cracking one-liners. I swear Simon set out with this comic to make the best version of Rodimus, the cartoon version was a vagina and his plans for the IDW iteration were ruined when Roberts turned him into a narcissistic manchild.

Regen kicks ass, it earned the right to call its final arc “The War to End all Wars”.

I could see them do that with that old 3rd party Cybertronian Bumblebee that was constantly repainted as other characters

Alright thanks to everyone with recommendations
I just have one more to ask and that is regarding video games, i really found interest in devestation but some stated it's no more possible to access the game. Is it possible to get it on pc or pirate it some way? I'm not a guy that likes to buy games unless they seem like perfect pick to me like l4d2 but this one screams everything that i'd love to play.

It's readily available physically used if you have a console of some kind, the digital marketplace versions are the ones you're gonna be fucked getting without some kinda dubious legal method. Stuff from earlier is also in the same boat as a lot of games haven't had any kind of re-release and some existed before digital marketplaces were the standard like the one based loosely on Armada for ps2. I didn't realize it till looking it up just now, but that game turned 20 this year! DAMN doesn't feel like that long I'm dying!

Anyways, this boss theme's been haunting my brain again recently. In the good kind of way, obviously.

It's still insane to me how there's entire UK exclusive side stories or sub plots to the marvel comic thanks to the region exclusive issues that exist for some reason. They're more well known NOW as just part of the story or whatever but it's crazy shit something like that even happened in the first place.

Stuff gets even weirder with the UK version of GIjoe's release where there's two entire fucking continuities with entirely different origins for characters due to the first few years of them localizing it as some original concept thing called "action force" through another company the first few years. I briefly brought that shit up earlier with the names and likenesses of the characters for that being in a weird legal gray space so you have both GIjoe re-releases of the guys exclusive to that and figures that have the names or likenesses of the exclusive characters from smaller companies. I have some of those newer ones cause there's no way in hell am I paying the prices people want for the cheaply made but still cool vintage ones in current year, especially with the "20 dollar shipping to the USA" shit.

My issue with the recently announced reissue of Netflix Soundwave is that it remains a freaking half-measure.

The ideal reissue would be, even if it has to be a commander class price point, a definitive Soundwave AND all of the tapes circa series 1-3. Rumble, Frenzy, RATFUCKINGBAT, Buzzsaw, Ravage, and Laserbeak. ALL FIVE included.

Covid made it so Ratbat/Rumble was impossible to find at retail and Frenzy was an internet only box set. Rumble and Frenzy both got reissued and given earth shaker hammers which their original releases didn't have and Ratbat STILL hasn't been reissued in any shape or form.

Including all five tapes would give people a reason to double dip since I doubt most people have all of the tapes given the shitty distribution that they've had. And most people would pay extra for the full set. It's a no brainer and Hasbro fucked it up....

It's not actually a reissue! Those are entirely new figures I have been trying to find to no avail because of probably the same shit every other thing the last few years that gets scalped ends up nowhere does with employees and transport guys yoinking em and the ones that end up getting actually on shelves also getting yoinked by scalpers. I stopped trying to find them and settled for the siege/earthrise versions after realizing the revised figures despite having more accurate proportions got rid of the flip out connector pegs and thus had no way of being stored on soundwave's back while he has a different cassette in his chest. That and the fact I found those ones for cheap surprisingly shortly after noticing this.

Honestly i think this soundwave reissue should have included BOTH rumble and frenzy instead of having an unaltered siege ravage a THIRD TIME. They made the colors darker on rumble because it's "toy accurate" but as people have pointed out that would make him frenzy if it's the g1 toy colors. What's gonna end up happening here is the same fucking shit that happened earlier with the other one coming in some box set since single carded legends er i mean core glass figures are apparently going away. Either that or it's just gonna be left incomplete because the impossible to find animation frenzy exists?

Always nice to see another Transformers fan who isn't obsessed with insane leftist politics. As for recommendations, i'll answer them in this single reply rather then splitting them and spoiler them as well so people don't have to look at large paragraphs of text.
This one is honestly the hardest, given how really subjective the cartoons are, even more than the games. Personally i think G1 is still awesome i won't pretend it's a sophisticated creation. But it tends to diverge into crazier narratives, which i can always enjoy. G1 doesn't have any of the ugly shit that Earthspark has. Sure, the animation is old but the character models still look good to this day and there's no dumb gender shit in there either. Beast Wars in my opinion is still the best 3D transformers show and has spectacular writing as far as Transformers shows go (Waspinator abuse is still funny but i also feel remorseful for him. Also Quickstrike is awesome). Armada still holds up, not everyone's favourite, but it's a show you can watch without any problems, i personally did love it and Megatron's voice actor returns from Beast Wars and does a great job. As for Prime, my opinion is probably unpopular but i quite frankly didn't care for the show. It's competently animated and looks better than Beast War's CGI, but i personally would rather watch Beast Wars. Beast Machines is rather controversial and while it does something new, i think you can skip this one and not miss too much. There's also the Japanese exclusive Beast Wars 2 and Beast Wars Neo. There's never been a western release, but you can find a unofficial quality dub on youtube and for torrenting. People typically don't like the atmosphere of Japanese Transformers shows but i think Beast Wars 2 and Neo deserve at least a watch. They accomplished the techno-organic concept without making the characters look hideous as they did in Beast Machines. This has been a way longer post than i thought, so my brief recommendations would be G1, Beast Wars, Transformers Victory, Beast Wars 2 and Neo, Robots in Disguise 2001. Transformers Armada and Transformers Animated. The only shows i would say are truly terrible are the Prime Wars Trilogy, the War for Cybertron Trilogy and Earthspark.
The original Transformers comics by Marvel are pretty damn good. The UK version also adds a lot of lore that wasn't present in the original US comics. Dreamwave's Transformers stuff was also good but the company went bankrupt and now most of the stories are left on a perpetual cliffhanger. The recent comics of Energon Universe by Skybound Entertainment have been good currently. IDW's early stuff is nice but it's really their later work which is just a massive dissapointment. Don't need to mention much more here as the most important stuff has been said.
I'd say this section would be the easiest for me to comment on. The games i'd classify as the best would be the PS2 Armada game, War for Cybertron (Not the DS and Wii versions), Fall of Cybetron and Devastation. The latter 3 used to be digitally available, but since Activision lost the rights to Transformers, you can really only pirate them, alternatively you could acquire a physical copy of all 4 games provided they aren't too expensive and you own their respective consoles (copies of Devastation aren't horribly expensive yet, no idea about the others however). Any game with Bayverse Transformers in it, wether it's character design or universe setting can be ignored. I don't know what it is with Bayverse games but they never break the trend of being awful. There's also the really obscure Beast Wars 2 fighting game for the GBC. It was never released in the west, but it's actually fairly solid and can be reasonably played without a english translation. I should also note that this is the only good Beast Wars game, which is rather tragic. PS1 Beast Wars is frustratingly boring and the graphics look awful. Transmetals isn't much better, just that this one is a fighting game and a bad one at that. If you're planning on pirating the 4 games i mentioned, do remember that the PS2 Armada game needs a emulator to run.

Imma be honest, I’m looking at the Commanders that’ve come out since I’ve been gone and three “super-engineered voyagers with trailer” in a row is a bit much and those BWII designs are abortions, Magmatron being one of the worst.

Jetfire, Skylynx and Magnus get it right, just make a big fucker that’s pretty much an old leader with bells and whistles.

To that end, there’s only one character I can think of who deserves to be the next, he’s the last one from that vote back in 2016, the only election that actually mattered in that year.
IMG_4345.jpeg
So long as he isn’t IDW. I do want a Powermaster Prime redo but again “man with trailer” is getting old.
