The lack of Tier 4 is disappointing, we more than qualified for one. But like I said, don’t be surprised if we see some quick last-minute Japanese repaints to capitalize on the success of Star Saber. Right off the top of my head, Richochet from SS Jazz, Galaxy Shuttle from Astrotrain, maybe another Micromaster pack, might see those Headmaster Juniors moved up and maybe a Tomy Selects Dinoking/Monstructor. If they were really cool they’d sell us a Zarak separate from Scorponok with a toy-accurate face for Scorponok.

They’re gonna try and sell more JP characters to ride the Star Saber wave, guaranteed.

A very good friend of mine is a huge Optimus Prime fan, what should I get him that will be unique and appreciated without being huge or wildly expensive? He already has all the 80s versions of his toy and a few Japanese ones

If he doesn't have the modern ones, the currently available ones run about 40 or 50 if you buy them new, unless you wanna get the small 10 dollar one. if he DOES have those you could always go for one of those "third party addon kits" that go between like 10 to 30 something dollars depending on where they come from and who's making them.
Another cheap and weird option, you could also possibly just give him a figure of Zenon/God Zenon from Gridman. It's not optimus prime, but it's also "not optimus prime" in the sense of his appearance is blatantly inspired by optimus prime to the point it's near criminal.

Thanks, I'll take a look. Last year I had a Tiki Optimus coffee cup made for him (he's half Samoan) so I was thinking something with the niche bit of utility

Standard release Galvatron is still scalped and pretty much nowhere in sight physical or digital still so I'm glad I have him, but also unwilling to do some serious custom work on him, and there's still no sign of a sale or restock. I've noticed some weird mild discoloration and gross splotchy gloss-ening of the plastic thats happened to him the longer I've had mine though. I think whatever the fucking purples made of it just absorbs finger grease like a god damn sponge and it's causing this weird thing to happen, sorta like the weird shit that happens with the grey switch controllers.

I bring all this update-type shit up because I found a few Chinese ebay listings for addon kits that fix something that bothers the shit out of me on Kingdom galvatron, the undersized back pylon. I thought it was held in with a pin or some shit but looking at my galvatron I see that no, there's just a weird hole like they were gonna have a pin in an earlier version and then decided to do a friction joint instead. Tempted to buy the first thing I bought from a weird chinese listing in some time. it's got stickers to add details hasbro didn't paint for some stupid ass reason like the belt and the tops of the pylons. No clue how good or bad quality they are, or really how good or bad quality the kit in general is.

The fuckyou level large feet plate addons bug me but also technically don't look bad. They bug me about as much as the fact Galvatron's feet are only painted on the front despite having the sculpt detail for the black parts on all sides.

The only other time I bought anything directly from China on ebay it was weirdly another galvatron adjacent thing. Specifically the third party masterpiece figure by DX9. This was like 4 years ago now but doesn't feel like it at all probably because of the lockdown hell we're in. This might be the second if I eventually decide on it.

EDIT: There's apperently also a guy in texas selling 3d printed screwhole covers for the legs as well as the usual pinhole and arm fillers. Might order some of those too, honestly.
Really hoping someone makes a smaller arm cannon sometime. Not like a 'shorter barrel" like some people are calling for or making/selling, but specifically the weird nonsense kinda variation in how galvatron's drawn where sometimes his plasma cannon is either a wrist gauntlet level of size or the same general size as megatron's fusion cannon. usually this size is the size the thing is when the cannon is mounted on the forearm.

If they make that kit for Selects Galvy I’ll buy two, it cleans up nicely. Maybe if they didn’t waste money on those dumb “ship guns” we could’ve had his proper back fin.

BTW Selects Galvy might be delayed across the board. Pulse sent me an email saying he was being shipped on DECEMBER 15!

These constant delays make no sense. It's not like other things where the stock doesn't exist yet and there's production shit due to corona. People are getting them imported, it's been out in other countries for weeks now. That's not even going into the fact some people with the right connections managed to snag early production copies an distribute them amongst colleagues MONTHS ago. There's definitely enough stock to meet demand and yet it keeps being fucking delayed. It's not like other things where the delay is a production issue, and the second production run and restocks of kingdom galvatron didn't 100% fix the shoulder issue like the selects version has so i really gotta wonder what in the absolute fuck is going on with the thing.
In other news the Shattered glass megatron is up for preorder again. You know, the one that came back in stock for preorder and then said it was out of stock after I moved it to cart, but it still let me preorder? yeah, some funky ass shits going on here.

GalvaTRON looks cool, but what the fuck, he comes with a mini-Revenge that is not only colored correctly but also fits on the Unicron stand?

Well that just makes those two Revenge guns the base fig comes with EVEN MORE pointless and stupid. They seriously should have done articulated hands, or the actual toy gun, or just anything else instead.

Or a proper back fin, really the fact that we’re getting a dlc pack for Unicron is ridiculous. The Revenge and the screw-ship should’ve been included.
 
Bulkhead looks like he's a pre-tool for another figure. I'm not ecactly sure WHO the fuck he's apretool for but that body is very much not bulkhead. Bulkhead's only shown up in like animated and prime, right? In both of those he's kinda round with big gauntlet arms sticking off him and stumpy little dwarf legs. This doesn't look like either of those. the torso's a wide g1 prime-esque box, he's got weird extremely boxy proportions bulkhead has never had. Gives off the vibes of those cheap walgreens/amazon exclusive transformers that have weird proportions and sometimes lack articulation.

Shit writing all this out I realized the possibility of and now think bulkhead may actually literally be a pretool for the new optimus prime figure.

He is a G1-ized mashup of Prime and Animated Bulkhead with an alt mode that looks like AOE Hound who himself was pretty much Bulkhead.

Edit: Bulkhead’s designer confirms the design intent.
