Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

That big round head on a long neck just doesn’t work for me with that body. The helicopter mode looks sick though.
I don't mind the head but the faceplate should have some colour to it. I do agree with the neck though, it needs a collar.

Doesn't look bad though depending on the angle.

New Iron Factory stuff with the samurai aesthetic look alright. Wouldn't mind the Prowl with Animated colours. Drift with Beyformer colours doesn't look bad either. Not sure how I feel about the anime girl Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker. They look a little better than the larger version of the Starscream one floating around. I like the Lockdown too with the straw hat.

Fixed Jackpot, popped the head shaved down some of the interior connections, reglued, lightly filed off both sides to ensure a clean, smooth and seamless fit then repainted.

An hour of work roughly, followed by fixing the paint-apps on Road Ranger. All these defects on figures I was looking forward to really bummed me out for awhile.

The Generations Selects release of Volcanus complements the two existing Leader Class Dinobots well

However the way they have his legs transformed always irked me, the interesting thing is if you have his thighs in an H stance like a normal combiner wars bot everything locks into place and is stable.

So position his legs like that and now you have this very wide and chunky combiner

I usually don't mind doing them as it gives me something to do and just adds to the hobby part of collecting in modern times. Just adding stickers to stuff was always boring. Now working on joints and paint apps gives you more to do and allows you to appreciate your collection more. As well as addon kits to personalize everything.

I love customizing, I hate fixing figures I hotly anticipated. I’m alright fixing an obvious stinker like ER Arcee but the second Gobot in what will be a set?

I just want to say Beast Wars is the shit and was better than any right it had to be considering the creators went in knowing fuck all about the franchise and were flying by the seat of their pants

Also Armada was really good once Unicron enters the plot from what I remember
Armada’s first half and second half are so different it’s hard to believe they’re the same show. Unicron being the robo-Cthulhu puppet master, Optimus having repressed bloodlust, Megatron being a father-figure to his men, Starscream’s sacrifice and that awesome final duel between Megatron and Optimus in the heart of the monster. It’s some good shit, Armada faults and all is kino.

If the first half wasn't so focused on selling the Mini-cons like they were pokemon and the kids, it would have probably been my favorite Transformers incarnation, but like you said, the second half is extremely strong. It's a shame that they dropped the ball so hard with Energon and Cybertron though after ending Armada on such a high note

I originally hated Armada mainly because I found the kids annoying as fuck. But now I have some more appreciation for it, especially with how much stronger its second half is.

Energon is still total shit though. So much of it felt like it was just actively destroying whatever potential Armada built up, especially with its fetish for mindwiping characters.

Magic Square continues to improve on their legends size. Rather like the Hound, Ratchet, and Skyfire.

With IDW going down the tubes and all their books now no longer "canon" I want to see if all the 2000's era repaints they featured will now plummet in price.

I mean there's probably just a small subset of collectors that bothered completing lines like Beast Machines and Universe 1.0, They probably have everything by now.
Can't wait for IDW to join FunPub. That shit will still be on the TF Wiki, but at least Hasbro will quietly ignore that content.
Also fuck Jim Sorrenson. Just saying.

FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for awhile for someone else to mention Sorrenson, the man who paid money for Chris Mcfeely to talk about rubsigns. I hate that faggot, Funpub letting “fans” write fiction was their cardinal sin.

Armada was also the start of the “Dark Optimus” not like Nemesis Prime but personality-wise. Even in the first season he was cold and….. distant, a far cry from the warm father figure.

Then you learn that this is a recent development and that he is a raging berserker who likes war. Still on the side of good but not necessarily a good man.

When Unicron gives his Gravemind speech and shattered the facade, the true Optimus comes out and it’s a treat.

Easily the best of the darker takes on Prime, eons of war broke him and he turned into the Doomguy if that final bout with Galvatron was any indication.

I'd like to see more Grand Scourge being used in comics and maybe some non upgrade kits of the figure too. The one for Combiner Wars needed work to look good like any of the other ones from that line.

Hasbro only ignores Funpub content in a lore sense, they're pretty close to remaking every single Funbub Exclusive figure in Generations and Lift Ticket is coming out.

Honestly I'm hoping for Fractyl and Pack-Rat and some of the way early botcon exclusives to get new versions.

Got my last haul for the year in today, here’s the rankings.

SS Slag: A-, the best Dinobot has finally been done justice. The lack of a sword is gay and Daniel is actual garbage. Redeemed by Slag being fuk-huge and even putting older leader-class figures to shame

SS Gnaw: C-, sloppy paint, useless gun that isn’t blast effect compatible, no antenna and that head is right there in the mouth. Still a fun little goon and a major step up from his TR figure.

Selects Artfire: B, best looking version of the mold but it is starting to degrade and that targetmaster mold is even more degraded. If they want to keep packing these little guys in then they need a new mold.

Kingdom Slammer: A+, easily the best Weaponizer, can break down into a load of different parts and puts his Siege brethren to shame. Plus his palette compliments everyone so combine away. Will likely be repainted into Guzzle, he can be configured to have that barrel on his back.

Premium Finish Optimus: Sexy repaint, nothing more nothing less. Buy it if you want the best CHUG Optimus with green windows and brighter reds and blues. Would love to see the ER mold get this treatment.

DK-23 Upgrade Kit: F, also known as the Scorponok leg extenders, don’t buy them. He becomes dangerously unstable with them installed. Do not buy ever, DNA leg extenders always turn out bad.

Marvel Legends Kro: B, I bought this to convert it into the Dark Matrix Creature and it turned out to be a cool looking space monster, only downside is a nigger headsculpt which will be replaced with something more Gieger-eldritch to match the body.

X-Transbots seems to have fixed their Kup. Only real issues is the paint on the diecast parts can easily be chipped. Can't they just back that paint on?

I haven't heard anything bad about them. Long as they're installed correctly they should last. There is a little play with the screws to help with the knee but that's not hard to get it just right.

Seems that Mattel released an addon kit for their MOTU Castle Grayskull Origins figure that's too large for the spot it's supposed to go and the figure you get with it can't stand in it's spot. It's like the designer didn't actually have the castle with him as he was designing it so it would fit. Size should be decreased by 25%. At least it wouldn't be hard to just scan it and 3dprint it and get a silicon mold of the tentacle and put a better wire in it. Smoke effect can be recast and made with a better resin and proper colour as that's it's only issue. Though if I keep it it's nice green I can add LED's to it so it lights up to show a better effect. Can't do anything with the figure though as that's on the designers who sculpted the castle. Shit like this makes me glad we never got playsets with transformers, but would be nice to get more diorama parts for them. Best we get are 3rd party walls/ floors and maybe a Teletran 1. Though we are getting furniture from third parties.

I've seen a nice Ark diorama I'd like to replicate though.
