Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

I've taken a few photos of the robots I got recently but they all came out like shit. With flash the colors distort and without flash the colors turn piss yellow, this house has shit lighting despite having a window on literally every wall somehow and it's never stopped confounding me. There was also the task of jamming them all into frame with a standard deluxe transformer for size comparison.
View attachment 2838479Not pictured is the weird massive one I made via butchering an offscreen robot and mashing it with the spare parts of the others. The 2 in the middle are sold out but the best ones (hun-dred on the right and sentinel, who is not in this photo) are surprisingly still in stock. I'll take a pic of sentinel later, he doesn't come like what the stock image on the site shows, he's got a lot more shit going on with him. There's an ebay scalper right now that's got maxx listed at $50 and judging by how I've noticed the behavior of him and others it's like they list one and then sell and relist at like 5 dollars higher till it's insano price, but sometimes they astart at ridiculously inflated prices like this maxx zero. I missed out on the blanks and he's been selling the fucking things the last week or so so I'm guessing that's where a chunk of that stock went. No idea how people can just sit on these things at such ludicrous upmarks but that's how it is.

Genuinely glad i got to experience this revival of the cool robot figures that were originally killed by having to compete with transformers, even if it was just at the end. From what I've seen of the prototypes put out by the company that bought the rights off the guy but it doesn't capture that specific signature vibe the originals had.

Can't remember if I sent this image earlier or not and I'm too lazy to check but still damn this looks less like 60s-80s robot more like 90s-2000s cgi render. not that it's "bad" neccesarily it just doesn't capture the character's specific vibe. Their marketing is apperently "oh the feet have suction cups like the originals now therefore better than the other remake line!" but they're piddly little things instead of hulking plunger-thrusters that form the base of the robot. The legs thing is something added by the lot production run remake line that's ending due to the rights getting transferred over to the company that's making the wacky cgi render looking ones. They also seemed to fail to realize the appeal of the legs was it was an optional transformation gimmick. With nothing but suction cups to run on this big budget reboot is more than likely going to be doomed from day 1 unless they hire godlike writers. Sculpt looks cool though and I'm probably going to buy it if it's not expensive as fuck for what it is.

Now I just gotta figure out what others of this final wave I'm going to get before the 31st when the killswitch on the stock activates due to legal bullshit.
Go to the dollar store and get yourself some of those huge posterboards. Should help with the lighting even if it's yellow light.

Also, check Youtube on videos about miniature photography.

There's something different about the Galvatron repack though...

It looks like the shitty battle damage is gone. If true those fuckers are probably gonna get me to buy yet another version of this mold.

I like how g2 Prime looks myself. I usually don't mind battle damage/ weathering if I do it myself because I know how it should look and how much to apply.

I also like the box designs
I just noticed that Bulkhead may have seats in his cab. Good to see it used for something instead of just empty space.

Not sure how I feel about the tiny gat on his shoulder. Over all though he looks way better now.

I know how to take photos it's more or less just I can't afford making a singular "taking photos" space for my shit. I'd rather make dioramas for the photo taking but I stll haven't fully decided on the kind of background I want to try and make. White background+off-white figures and too bright lighting=can't see shit hence why I go for a neutral grey or some other color piece of cardstock when I take pics right now.

Try modular design. Some miniature artists go for that route at first.

I don't care about the battle damage, what bothers me is the fact they still haven't painted the sides of his feet or the red bits on his shoulder pylons. It's not like they can't do it, it's more just whoever's in charge of the paint for the figures doesn't notice the blatantly obvious sculpt detail somehow. Removing paint while charging the same price or slightly more is really unfotunate when it's not going back into any other part of the figure.
Also, it still baffles me as to why they made the parts of his legs that fold into the back of his turret purple instead of grey. It's mistransformed in the stock image but it also accentuates how jarring it is when there's not supposed purple on the back of the cannon like that.

X-Transbots Hot Spot doesn't look bad in vehicle mode. I still have my doubts on QC and transformation though. The other two in the line still have their terrible sliding joints for transformation and those wont last long unless you control the humidity in your room where you keep your collection. I'll stick with Occulas Max until Fan Toys makes one.

Only the toy had that. Animation model and the 2005 re-release didn't have it because that was also animation model. They did have sticker detail which was suppose to mimic the little bit of red on top but also add yellow to it (2005 re-release was better since it had no added detail and just had the small red squares). He also didn't always appear with red on his shoulder plates. It was normally dark grey with a light grey cap. That can be easily explained away due to the effort needed to paint in the little red square on top if the animator at the time remembered it being there. I'd like to see my seekers have some extra colour detail on their shoulder pilon things but that wont happen. Small paint details are always the first thing tossed because of the budget. Only reason why "battle damage" stuck around for a wave is because it's easy to do.

If you really need that little bit of detail though that Hasbro didn't have the budget for, Toyhax has a sticker set for him.

Has it been mentioned that the lead designer/ artist for Transformers Animated, Derrick J. Wyatt passed away recently?

In other news.
Newage Toys H13C Lucifer looks really good. I like how they can get a waist swivel and Takara can't.

Not toy related, but related to the animation. Bought the Japanese G1 Transformers cartoons on DVD to complete my G1 collection, and I'm getting worried that it got lost in the mail. It's about 3 days late. The good news is I can get a refund, but I'm holding out hope it's still on the way. The Japanese G1 collection prices shot up over Christmas and I'm kicking myself for not jumping on it sooner.

You hear that? It’s the sound of the dipshits who paid scalper prices getting their ropes tied.

Shame it isn’t that darker purple we all wanted.

I won't be surprised at all if he gets released yet again down the road in SS86 in even better colors. They're clearly high on this mold and are going to milk it like crazy, this year alone there's already been like 3 versions.

And I can see why because this is the first Galvatron they've done that isn't hindered by some crippling flaw.

That and he’s one of the best Leaders in years, you really get your money’s worth with this guy.

Solid construction, shelf presence and no intrusive gimmick. All you can ask for, especially with Galvy.

Shipping is borked again because Rodimus hasn't beaten Omnicron yet, Our grocery stores are getting pretty empty.

So did anyone get the Ark/Last Autobot? I know he’s considerably……lesser than Omega and Scorponok but the prospect of having the Last Autobot is……. getting to be too much to pass up. With the upgrade kit he looks to be worth his asking price.

I hope you guys don't mind me asking a question , do any of you order stuff off the chosen prime? are they a decent website?
I don’t use them personally, but I haven’t heard anything negative per say. They’re not like TFsource who’s compromised as hell.

How is TFSource compromised to hell?

Also the Ark is great for both, in vehicle mode for a diorama prop or in robot for just having a huge dude.

I already had The Last Autobot when I bought Universe 2.0 Vector Prime, so that wasn't a big appeal.

Don't know what you're smonking but the Red on his pylonswas on the animation model, and has been a mainstay g1 galvatron staple.
Soundwaves Oblivion: Transformer Toy Archive: Galvatron (G1, 1986)

It's less a "budget" thing because they removed paint apps, and usually when they DO remove paint apps some other stuff gets added, that studio series bumblebee 2 pack being a good example of what I'm talking about. The toy's pylons were red pylons with black and yellow sticker detail, animation model galvatron is grey pylons with a lighter grey/silver top with small red panel things on them. The sculpt for the red panel things is on kingdom galvatron, much like the sculpt for the sides of his foot. The lack of foot is more egregious than the lack of the red detail on his pylons. Due to only the front of the feet being painted it creates this weird fucking hoof looking foot that several upgrade kits "fix" by giving him these awkwardly long foot extension things. Kingdom galvatron's proportions are a bit weird because he's clearly simultaneously trying to be the animation model and g1 toy but it works to an extent. The marvel comics/g1 toy redeco they did of him's feet look a lot less strange due to them just painting the entire front foot black.

Also toyhax doesn't fix shit in the case of kingdom galvatron. Interesting optional alternate aesthetic? sure. Not fix, though. You know what fixes it? paint. If the rumors of a studio series 86 galvatron are true it's probably going to be like the target exclusive 86 cliffjumper where he's in animation accurate colors.

Speaking of the target exclusive studio series 86 figures, the Kup one's fucking weird considering he's already a studio series 86 figure. At first glance of that thing it looked like all they did was swap the paint from inside his windshield to outside his windshield, but it's weirder than that. They did a sorta cel-shading paintjob like they did with the walmart exclusive optimus and megatron, but without any actual cel shading, just the slight shadow line type of shading. Basically the thing that was missing from the cel-shaded store exclusive figures without the colors thing that they had. Both end up looking cool but are missing what the other has. Not gonna go out of my way to hunt for it as studio series kup is already pretty much perfect save for the weirdly lacking wrist articulation.
Studio series 86 siege cliffjumper is another story though I won't see him in stores either knowing target's scalper situation. never got siege cliffjumper and oddly painted windshield aside this new re-release seems to be pretty much the best update to cliffjumper

Go through through every animation cell and you'll see that they disappear a lot. Though you seem to be too lazy to do that. You can't even be arsed to see what Toyhax fixes.

I never had an issue dealing with TFSource and I don't live in the United States. Been dealing with them for five years now. I know they were hacked back in 2010 or so but they haven't had an issue since that I can recall. Last time I heard BBTS having issues was in 2016. Since then they've been safe to use. Just their prices are always terrible, but if you live in a country that rarely get's stuff shipped to them you have to pay extra anyways.

Finally got my 1990 DX Great Exkizer in...it is the best brick(s) ever made. I wish this had come to us in the USA in the 1990s...what an amazing piece of Plastic Crap this is. Super expensive too, unfortunately...tho I got lucky and found one in good conditon. Most of them are battered and yellowed with broken tabs. Super stoked about the Soul of Chogokin versions coming soon, the MP one is a little too small and the Dragonkizer is way too fiddly. I didn't even keep mine, it felt like a cheap CMS release. The MP Exkizer is nice though despite the tiny carbot!
