Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

Starscream armada.JPG
I ended up getting that Armada Starcream remake today. I have NO FUCKING CLUE what the fuck every internet reviewer ever has been saying about the plastic on this thing "feeling cheaper". It feels exactly the same as all the other figures I got, but it does seem like it's made almost entirely out of the harder plastic as opposed to having bits made of that slightly softer plastic. It's really a great figure but there's a few oddities with QC and some other shit that bugs me me about it so I'll list them in a way that hopefully breaks up the text enough for it to be legible.
1. The red paint is severely mismatched to the plastic. It's not that visible in this photo because I used the flash but I thought I ended up getting one of those infamous"pre-yellowed" figures I've heard nightmare stories about before I realized that clearly was not the case. I can't find any info about this shit online so I'm just gonna assume i's one of those unspoken things nobody that has a strong enough following fucking mentions when they review it instead going to rag on about the "cheap plastic" and act like it's either a meh figure or one of the worst things ever made, all reviewers with followings also INSIST to have his thruster vents in the optional g1 style position for like the majority of their reviews which makes my monkey brain fucking angry but that's another story.

2. They SEVERELY skimped on the paint detail. Proportionally this is one of the most accurate updates to a character, but so much easy to put on details are missing for no reason whatsoever. Was adding the grey red and black paint detail that's spots are actually sculpted into the figure just that hard? The feet seem to be even sculpted in a way where if you painted the lower leg armor detail baked into them it wouldn't scrape with the joint, same case for the other parts like the small wings on the intake cannons that flip over and the little red joint flaps. Whoever designed this figure designed it clearly with those spots being painted in mind, yet there is no paint there. The piddly ass wing sword's paint was removed last second before release and they didn't reallocate that supposed saved budget anywhere. The black detail on the arms doesn't even wrap around the side where it should making his arms look kind of weird due to it, could they not have changed that last second like they did the sword?

3. The sword accessories he comes with are piddly and tiny compared to literally any sword accessory ever, and they have no proper storage that looks good. It sucks because the sculpting on them is great, they just made the things too damn small and didn't do the same thing the thrilling 30 version did where the swords folded to fit under the wings. There's cheap 3d printed stuff people make that fixes this problem with the star saber but not the wing sword.

4. joint tolerance QC issues in modern figures, but this one brings me back to the Universe Galvatron tolerance QC stuff. Tabs either don't fully lock in or don't stay locked in and flop out, some things are too loose or too tight and it's completely dependent on if you get lucky apparently. I seem to have gotten lucky with mine on everything but the nosecone and the back part that optionally clips down not staying locked in if I clip them in. His left and right arm joints are slightly wobbly but nothing like what I've seen on other people's copies. I think it's tied to how the arms are clamped in when you open the figure as I was really careful trying to get this thing out of it's plastic tie hell prison and the arms were kinda held in at a stiff and awkward angle compared to the rest of the figure. I'm used to fiddly bullshit so the hinge annoyance is minute.
I've gotta say I'm glad I got this guy, I'm still hoping to get Jhiaxus and Blitzwing at some point but I missed the discounts due to not having much spending money at the time due to the asshole who's box I put as a temporary backdrop to take photos in front of shipping a month early. In terms of articulation this figure's a middle-ground between Siege and Earthrise Starscream, though I don't think anything's ever gonna top the siege mold in terms of cool articulation, Except maybe combiner wars breakdown having drop-down hips, but he came before siege. Speaking of which, why the hell haven't they implemented those in more transformers figures? They literally only did it for one figure that didn't even need them and then never again, such a weird inclusion.

Well I was going to give Rise of the Beasts a shot, then I read that Michaela Jaé Rodriguez is voicing Nightbird.
is Nightbird a nameslap character or are they actually gonna put thre effort of doing a hollywood level remake of the plotline where the decepticons hijack and reprogram some japanese company's ninja robot?

...Actually while typing this I looked it up and nightbird seems to be just a generic cybertronian carformer and not a fucking ninja made by a Japanese company yeah that's fucking lame.

When I image searched it that came up but it said it was a fan design. There is a car mode in the actual trailer apparently though no robot. However it's clear it's not gonna be the same nor even a "similar but different "character like the unicron trilogy guys or a few of the bayformers were but like just background bitch nameslap shit. I'm guessing it's like how "Blitzwing" in bumblebee is clearly just starscream but they can't have starscream die so they make blitzwing into a starscream that isn't named starscream where the character's namedrop is supposed to generate hype.

Double posting cause it won't let me edit my last one but also because enough time has passed that something relevant came up unrelated to the last one I got a chance to take a pic of just recently.

Here's the backstory. A few days ago I finally found a figure I was looking for the last few years since it came out and never showed up at any store by me at Ollies of all things thrown in a random ass aisle while looking for something completely unrelated, that figure was Slitherfang, some generic robot cobra newcomer that turns into a shield/road thing. Only really cool one of those little guys. Apperently he's affiliated with the quintessons but there's nothing that really screams "quintesson" about him like the alicons and sharkticons/gnaw (other ones I have never seen at retail save for once). Then ONLY A DAY LATER I ended up seeing a Blitzwing marked on clearance for $40 at walmart. And by "a" Blitzwing I mean ONE blitzwing, all the others were full price and one of the full price ones literally had the figure stolen from it's windowless box and has been sitting in that aisle for like a few months now. I was worried it was a figure swap or something but I checked by opening the box after realizing someone previously opened it from the bottom and saw that no, no everything was in there. Cannot fucking afford the current $55 dollar pricetag of leaders but $40 is something I can do.
Blitznigga.JPG
The two of these are almost perfectly color matched for each other, and Blitzwing's back is just wide enough for Slitherfang to perch on it like some fucked up robot parrot. I had extreme tolerance issues with blitzings leg pegs not wanting to slot in when transforming him to his Robot mode but weirdly jamming a hairdryer on them for a good few seconds fixed the problem. Only issue is now his legs are kinda loose at the knees.
The figure's extremely divisive for some fucking reason due to it having a cock in tank mode like the g1 cartoon and a plane mode made to look like the g1 toy and the g1 animation model that's not accurate to either, but I think the most egregious thing is the sword inexplicably being made of soft rubber plastic painted silver making the paint permanently sticky and the earmuffs lacking the purple paint detail. and some brilliant fucker deciding to puta mold line on his fucking shades. I'm kinda warming up to the unpainted earmuffs though as it shows how similar his head shape is to the other jet mode transformers, and I got no qualms with either of his alt modes. His weapon storage in robot mode is great, everything can just slot into all 3 holes in his back and not look weird. I also like the fucking big robo-fist accessories, but on mine they just fall out of his hands and won't stay in.

Now all that's left on my "really want" list I can easily get is Jhiaxus but I've been seeing a weird surge in stock ofhim everywhere to the point he's practically the only standard legacy voyager some places seem to be stocking. No way I'll be able to get the new stunticons the way they've been rolled out lmao.

Junkion 2 looks like it can be reused for Axer or least have an upgrade kit to make him Axer. Animate Prowl looks okay, but seems like another figure that looks like it will be better off as someone else like Prime Arcee being a better Hot Tits Fire Crotch Flame War.
Nemesis will be interesting to see transform.
A potential commander class Ultra Magnus sounds promising.
More collab creations too, which will probably be terrible.

Nightbird is actually from G1 Cartoon episode "Enter the Nightbird" (episode name is aa takeoff on "Enter the Dragon") where she's actually a Japanese Ninja waifu ninja robot (built by a scientist named Dr. Fujiama) about the size of an average Transformer. She was built by the humans and never spoke.

I basically said that without the exact episode details summary thing. I'm talking specifically nightbird in the movie where I say "generic nameslap carformer" because nightbird isn't supposed to have an altmode due to being a fucking tech demo robot that got hijacked for cyber-terrorism of the future type purposes.

Her current design is based off of Shatter from the Bumblebee movie. This is probably so they can save costs (lets face it, having some tranny voice it was also to save costs and they knew they would lose some ticket sales for it so had to cut costs even further.)

Seems like the new price point for Commanders here will be around $140. I remember paying that for Titan class.
Leader class will be 76.99, so around $7 more after conversion rates. Plus taxes. which will be another 13% on top if you're in say Ontario. So the current price of a AAA title.
Deluxes will stay at $34.99 35.99 (never mind, they've gone up a dollar) (I remember only paying $24 just a few years ago)
People need to stop complaining about their costs in the USA. Other countries pay a lot more than you after currency conversions. It's not like shipping is all that much as a lot of stores like Walmart piggy back off of other companies to save cost, so where is this extra coming from? It's usually cheaper for me to get stuff from the USA and just pay customs if it requires it, and buy in bulk to save on shipping fees.
At least Voyagers aren't that badly priced.

I know this may be a little off topic (then again, this is the Transformers general thread so who cares) but what's the whole deal with Botbots? It seems like Transformers but somehow even more autistic.

I never bought any but they're some shit that was like like some cheap yet also expensive rubber blindbox toy thing that seems to take inspiration from the short lived "real gear" series in that it's almost entirely transformers based on mundane ass objects but in a super deformed kinda style. At least that was the case initially but I think they made ones that were of the normal transformers too and included 3 of those sharkticon/gnaw ones in some target exclusive pack with a cheapo hot rod figure a few years ago nobody bought. Some people are really into the things for some reason i cannot explain given they're kind of lacking.

Speaking of weird spinoff lines I recently found and bought the RED series shockwave because I never got the Siege version and weirdly it's in the exact same scale as the Siege one. Kinda wish Siege shockwave had a variant released in these animation colors at some point like basically every other figure has at this point butI guess the only time that's ever gonna happen is the masterpiece figure and this RED figure for some unknown reason. I'll take some pictures later. Really nice looking figure but after just touching it for like one second despite my hands not being greasy at the time I did the plastic somehow absorbed all the oils from my hand or some shit and gained a sickly grease gloss I cannot accurately after being left on the shelf for a few hours that doesn't show up in photos. This seems to be an issue with some hasbro purple shit as the same thing happened with my Kingdom Galvatron a yea or so ago RED just seems to be experimental standalone scale articulated figures in vaugely 6 inch format. whatever the designers want they just kinda do, so you end up with an undersized but really nice looking g1 megatron, Starcream and bumblebee that aren't quite their g1 selves, or some extremely jank and flat looking shit.

The show is for smaller kids, and in true Netflix fashion had a climate change episode. Yeah.

While some of the Botbot's were interesting, I don't get why it needed a show. Only parents wanting to get a kid a blind bag toy or hardcore Transformers fans would ever get them. There's maybe 8% of them that would be nice to have on your office desk.

I have a lot of kids, they don't find modern cartoon shows, or really any show for kids made in the current year to be interesting.

I didn't even know the botbot things had a fucking show lmao.

The Scourge toy for RotM doesn't look bad. Looks like a better version of the old Prime Unicron toy in terms of head design, and the silhouette looks like a "Unicron"

Magic Square's Windcharger and Gears look really good.

If they can be upscaled a bit they'd be perfect for Universe size characters. Hopefully the one "third party" that does that will do so for these guys.
