Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

I'm mad that they made a Purple Gorilla but didn't go all the way to reference Bonzi Buddy

God damn it now I'm just incredibly tempted to try and find a place that somehow not only stocks but ALSO discounts transformers so I can make an attempt at creating a custom figure. Can barely find either lately. I'd probably completely fail at it, so I guess it evens out.

I really want the primal mold to reference Oilmaster which was a botcon exclusive guy, The way his beast mode stands on two legs really makes me think that this is going to eventually happen.

Have all these beastbots become pretender dudes would work really well.

I would love Oilmaster to get a new figure, such a crazy over the top design/character.
Does ravage really not transform? he looks like most beast wars ravage figures where he has an alt mode of a panther. He literally reuses parts from cheetor and his head is large enough it could probably serve as his alt mode head. If he really doesn't transform that means cheetor's weird arms and legs being used for ravage serve literally no purpose.

Also, holy fucking shit! a Bumblejumper that's not a defect. I kinda wonder what happened to that actual reissue of netflix bumblebee they put out a while ago. Never saw any shit about anyone buying it or it even showing up in stores though it was supposedly put out there. More target employee ebay scalper fodder, I suppose.
Well the reused parts is Hasbro being kikey, doubt they’d shell out entirely on new parts for a one and done figure.

Blackarachnia is selling this set for me, I like them all don’t get me wrong. This reminds me of those fantastic TR box sets, wish it had some fluff and dedicated artwork though.

BTW Ravage transforms, I corrected my post for posterity and apologize for the misinformation.

He's more show accurate than the original and can actually turn into a believable flesh and blood animal.

I'm liking that it's sounding that they're going down the route of no themes. There's no new optimus generations mold until 2024/2025. So we really will be getting a ton of lesser known characters just like in Titans Return.

I’m hoping they learned their lesson from Polarclaw, for anyone not in the know. Polarclaw was in this fantastic poster artwork that was shown off at Hascon last year. It had every mainline Kingdom character in it and generally looked great and built hype. Except in it were, Gears, Polarclaw and the two cut Fossilizers, a crocodile and sabretooth tiger.

When asked the rep casually said he was cut, alongside Gears. When people realized that Polarclaw (a fan favourite) was cut and ER Arcee was getting repacked there was a shitfit. Normally these things are cringe, like with ER Prime and the faggots spazzing over his yellow eyes (he looked better with them) and slight miscolored parts but with Polargate I get why they were pissed. Having a fun obscure character dangled in front of you only for some corpo to casually say he was cut is infuriating.

I was right. Didn't notice the edit at first but yeah this looks nice. Inaccurate to his robot panther thing he usually has going for him, but still really nice. The fact beast mode is just an animal with a cyborg looking gun turret on it's back gives me some nanosaur type vibes. If this is available for purchase anytime within reasonable pricing and actually findable I will 100% be grabbing this bastard.

So I guess that test shot prototype of a new armada prime shown off a few years back is just never coming out now? Shit, that sucks. the third party "masterpeice' style armada primes all look fucking weird and jank as hell on top of being nightmare levels expensive so I was holding out for that thing to actually come out with a release date. That shits not even like the shitcanned Combiner wars demolishor or thrilling 30 transmetal megatron where the only way we know they existed is from factory test shot leaks, they showcased the fucking thing alongside the preorder exclusive star convoy redeco of potp prime.

Also I somehow had no clue polar claw was cancelled, but that absolutely sucks balls as well.

I dunno, I’m kinda glad that it was shelved and the update to Armada Prime isn’t going to an exclusively Takara engineered figure. When Takara exclusively works on a figure it has a high chance of coming out fucky, Star Convoy, Dai Atlas, Ginrai, Godbomber, LG Blackarachnia and a lot of those precious MPs have been compromised as hell lately.

If Armada Prime does get an update I don’t want it half-assed or weirdly engineered by some chinky magic. Because unlike G1 Optimus there’s no guarantee he’ll get another one without having to wait another twenty years.

This is more transformers adjacent but I'm mildly tempted to splice a dollar tree cobra commander head onto a mega bloks figure's body to make a decently posable "in scale" cobra commander to go with my g2 megatron. the head's already the marvel comic colors
Speaking of Gi joe, there was recently an online restock of the 6 inch gi joe collector line hasbro's been putting out, more specifically the first release of the Cobra Trooper. I'm glad it somehow didn't immediately sell out this time so I don't have to settle only having he gimped and gun-deprived "general release" variant that they put out after people complained about the scalpers that ended up being scalped as well, albeit at 50 rather than 200. I managed to find a single listing of that one a month ago for in-store msrp and got it.
It's weird but those figures are consistently $19.99 in stores and $22.99 online. I don't get why this is but the added price combined with shipping kills my ass and makes me not want to order jack shit. I've noticed transformers seem to follow a similar weird pricing scheme. The netflix promo figures are like 2 or 3 dollars cheaper than the normal non-exclusive figures if you buy them in the physical stores that carry them, but online they seem to run either around the same price or more expensive than the standard releases. There was also that one weird anomaly where netflix hotlink was 80 fucking dollars on the official site listings while he was like 40-ish? in the physical stores. That same thing happened with some other transformer recently but I can't remember which one it was right now. People got him to replace skywarp but him and skywarp are what I have instead of a full trio of seekers lmao. maybe someday...

Star convoy was an entirely different beast than armada prime. The prototype of armada prime was 100% original and on the same aesthetic as this current WFC stuff. Star convoy was a retool of power of the primes optimus, a figure with some notoriously loose joints and weird QC issues. I have the nemesis version of that figure. That's really the only one I had any motivation to get, mainly because of the weird freaky nemesis prime variation headsculpts, the bigger one weirdly being an upscaled tfcc toxitron headsculpt and the smaller voyager scaled robot being something completely new and almost bird-like. That one was a hasbro release, but it's more or les the same bag of fuck in terms of problems. Ginrai had the loose ankles as well, I rememeber that hell. Never got him or the cheaper version of him that came out in the box set that was labelled "magnus prime", and I really regret that latter one because that fuckers now the same stupid expensive level price as the takara release he shares little to no visual differences with aside from a few paint apps. There is no excuse for the inflated price QC nightmare era of masterpiece figures we're in now. Whats weird is the WFC/studio series figures in some cases pull off the aesthetics better than the masterpieces. (cel shaded siege optimus is more or less just the 500 dollar optimus 3.0 but at a different scale and 30 dollars.) Both have their own QC issues but masterpiece figures in particular seem a lot more fragile than they used to be.

Also, What happened with godbomber and blackarachnia?

I'll check if there's answers or info out there when I wake up. Earlier today I ended up dozing off and tipped over, smashing my head against a table. been feeling like shit since. Gonna head to get some rest, but next time I post in here I'll hopefully be sure to leave image walls instead of just text walls lmao.

all these repaints and remolds and recasts and "we'll pretend it's this other thing" shits make me glad I"m not _really_ into Transformers or else I would probably get pissed at that lazy bullshit

Godbomber was an original 100% Takara sculpting/engineering figure and man was he weird. He was a partsformer but the way they handled it was just odd, his legs connected via CW combiner ports, his head has a separate helmet that went over the titan master, he was mostly held together with tabs and 5mm ports. Which is fine but his heavy ratchet joints (used in the combined mode) tore him apart when trying to pose him. His combined mode was garbage due in no small part to the skeleton of the CW Magnus mold used for Ginrai which was never meant to combine.

Godbomber and Ginrai were both pricey Takara leaders and it was very obvious that Hasbro had no involvement.

LG Blackarachnia was made from Animated Blackarachnia and had heavy retooling done to her tits….. said retooling left a huge gap in the torso under the neck and boobs hanging off the spider mode.

I’m a firm believer that Masterpiece is on it’s way out, janky releases, too long in between releases and the insane pricing has pushed a lot of guys to CHUG….. which really showed with Siege, that line was extended by another five months or so, same with Kingdom getting a full fourth wave.

That's literally how transformers started, for example Omega Supreme, Jetfire, Optimus, Bumblebee, and Megatron are from all different toylines.

I mean more "it's the same toy as the last five but we painted it different so pretend it's some obscure comic character"
making a Valkyrie a Jetfire is one thing
taking Jetfire and making seven "new" toys by painting it and maybe adding a horn is lame unless you're specifically a mass-produce unit like a Zaku

Well in the case he described Siege Skywarp is very hard to get these days, they did one run of a box set that sold out quickly and that was it. A year later Siege Hotlink comes out…… and his colours look very much like Skywarp, so a part of me does believe that Hotlink is one of those figures that could fill different holes in the collection, Skywarp, Hotlink (obviously), an Air Warrior or just a generic mass-produced Seeker.

But most of the time I agree with your point.

A few years back that was literally all retail TFs were, they had their reason of course but it was the same six deluxe molds and four voyager molds over and over.

It was a nightmare called Combiner Wars.

Next Haslab is Star Saber, he’ll probably go up sometime this week.

My oldest son gave me Cyclonus for my birthday, and he's a pretty great little figure. The detail is pretty nice, he feels nice and solid, and his transformation process is fun. I also got some cash for my birthday so I used that to order two of the upgrade kits from DNA for Scorponok. I ordered the one that comes with his big cannon, the ankle pistons, a pair of the articulated blaster turrets, and visor, and the other kit is the one with the articulated scorpion legs, shield parts, another pair of articulated blaster turrets, and the red visor. Still waiting on the July pre-order Scorponoks to come in to TF Source, but at least when he finally arrives I'll have the upgrades ready to put on him from the get-go.

I was also able to get the Ark pre-ordered for my oldest son's birthday. I'm glad that I was able to get that done, and it'll be cool that we both will have Titans.

Have you guys seen the Shattered Glass Jetfire yet? Hot damn, is that a sexy figure! The flat black with the purple and green just looks so RIGHT.

I really hope the asking price will not be $2,000
I’m more curious *when* Star Saber was designed, was it when Warden was leading the team? Or when fuckhead Lenny took over?

I’ve got those kits ordered for my Scorponok, hoping Blacked Zarak gets those kits as well.

I’ve got my paints ready for when the Ark arrives, day one I plan to have him dissembled and ready for his true colours.

My Scorponok upgrades arrived today. I'm really impressed with the quality of DNA. The plastic is flawless, the paint is clean, even the packaging is top notch. They could have easily just tossed all the parts in plastic bags and put everything in brown boxes with basic lettering, but instead they went the extra mile by putting all the parts in molded plastic trays with matching lids, and the boxes have custom printing on them with one side showing the contents of the box and the other side having a stylized image of the main feature for the kit (in this case the big blaster for one and the shield upgrades for the other) along with custom artwork and logos that are color-matched to the bot they're for. Hopefully the shipment of Scorponoks come in soon, so I can get mine all upgraded and decked out.

The clear external visor, how does it mount onto his head? I’m hoping to get this look.

Does it look like this could be achievable? I know you don’t have Scorpy yet but I’m just trying to figure out if I can do this without having to get some styrene and making my own visor.
