Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

The top one is tranny colors. That don't bode well
That's thunderclash. At least I'm pretty sure? Could be another lookalike replacement like a lot of pozzed media does these days. He's only got one figure and it's fromt hat weird period at the end of g1 where the g2 aesthetic kinda crosses over and his feet and trailer are partly made of the weird cheap gold plastic that begins disintigrating a few years after release. He was supposed to be one of the successor autobot leaders after optimus and hot rod or whatever originally If I remember this right but I'm not sure if any media actually went with that. They did retool him into optimus prime, though.

I’ll be honest, all these new reveals are hollow, shallow even when compared to what was revealed two weeks ago.

I’ve got two of these skeletal SOBs on pre-order.

It's the Wreckers, better than average odds he won't make it through the first issue.
But this isn’t /our Wreckers/ these are the nuWreckers, no Impactor, Springer, Topspin/Twintwist, Roadbuster, Broadside etc, these won’t be the grim stories of an Autobot Black Ops unit fighting impossible odds and doing whatever it takes to get the job done.

This is a new diversified team with none of the sheer grit of the the classic rosters.

They probably won't do thunderclash right. he's had barely any official characterization aside from the prior IDW one that went in a completely different direction from the original bios on the guy. A guy that lugs around a portable weapons platform has actual potential for wreckers type stuff but it doesn't seem thats the direction they will go with these nuwreckers judging by the preview art.

Honestly if they want to do a new iteration I’m all for it, but respect what they are and what Wreckers storylines are all about. I’ve said for years that Warpath should be a Wrecker.

Fort Max, Crosshairs, Roadfire, Sonic Bomber, Deep Cover and the Monsterbots. I picked eight random assholes off my Autobot shelf and generated a better team than this IDW troon. It’s not that you can’t have fembots on the team, I see the Wreckers, especially their modern iteration as a love-letter to 80s action heroes so you need to have a chick that fits the dynamic.

Chromia would be my recommendation for a female Wrecker, she’s pretty much robot Sarah Conner as is nowadays.

G1 thunderclash has a kup/magnus hybrid kinda look about him but that new one's definitely too soft-faced.

What in the actual fuck is this abortion

What the fuck even is this one? It looks like one of the cyberverse figures but what character is it? Shit looks like either six shot or sky lynx's beast mode and has a dinobot colorscheme.

...wait, is this a dinobot combiner? He's got dinobot beast head kneepads.

Why the fuck are they trying to make the nu-combiners a thing? Galvatronus: fucking sucks, wasted potential
Victorion: giant dyke made up of a turbo bitch and four non-entities
Volcanicus: five classic characters made into a non-character that brings bad memories of the Beast

Hasbro knows more than any company that nostalgia is key.

Plus this thing is just a colourless Predaking.

Soft-faced is IDW’s thing now, they’re exclusively hiring cheap tumblr artists for their ongoing universe. They can only afford good artists for one-shots and miniseries (84)

Takara's take on galvatronus (called grand galvatron over there) was actually something cool and i kinda wish the figures in that box set weren't JP box set/scalper exclusive. All we got over here was the torso and some nameslapping of galvatronus on anything cyclonus or combiner related. The Megatronia combiner team despite being just repaints of the victorion box set is a similar case because they actually made the team all their own unique new characters instead of just going off on the whole "first female combiner!!" marketing colgatebot victorion had going on. Victorion and predacus were the 2 combiner wars sets that felt weirdly low effort to me compared to the others, which is saying something when combiner wars was almost entirely made up of slight retools or repaints of the same 6 or so molds.
Also, on combiner wars. The only 2 combiner teams I bought from that line were bruticus and menasor, normal versions, not the takara or g2 box sets cause those were too expensive. Every time I got a figure it was on sale for like 30 or 40 percent off.
No dragstrip either on menasor, just wild rider/brakeneck and his replacement they made solely to make wild rider an exclusive release.

Doesn’t help Predacus and Victorion’s cases that some god-awful fiction is tied to them.

Galvatronus could’ve been a cool idea, Galvatron building a “one man” combiner made from his lieutenant and cast in his image is…… actually in character.

Victorion being “the religious one” could’ve been cool. But instead her core component is just an awful character who berates a pop-culture icon regardless of which decision he makes. That’s not how you sell an expensive box set of repaints.

Predacus is a wrongly-coloured abomination. Fuck Funpub.

Grand Galvatron is metal AF, the best Galvatron forming a team of traitors, damned and corrupted is an awesome idea. Should’ve had a western release.

Megatronia sold out because she offered what fans have fainted for years. Female Decepticons that fit into the pre-existing roster and aren’t “female seeker OC donut steel” types.

The other 2 funpub exclusive combiners were alright but too fucking expensive for my price-range. Never looked into the lore surrounding them if there was any but they did that thing most of combiners wars did where it was just Combiner bots reworked into g1 characters that wouldn't normally combine combining. .I'm just glad they reused/upscaled the toxitron headsculpt for the amazon exclusive potp nemesis prime because that's a genuinely cool prime head. one of the only times I've seen hasbro do something like that happen in the last several years. Kinda makes you wonder why they don't reuse/resize heads more often. Seriously though, Prime's head warped into the decepticon logo is really cool visual.

That headsculpt should be the gold standard for Nemesis Prime, help him transition from a loose idea into an actual character. I remember a post on 4chan that propositioned making an “Evergreen” iteration, essentially making Nemmy into the Transformers-equivalent of Faker from MOTU who starts off as a Decepticon drone but slowly gains sentience after each beatdown. Eventually culminating Nemesis becoming a mainstay in Megatron’s court as an executioner.

No time-travel, no Unicron, no humans, no edge and no multiverse shenanigans.

Funny story, Funpub Toxitron was assembled with the faulty hips that plagued Optimus and Motormaster.

A lot of those Funpub heads could be great on current figures, inner robot Bludgeon head with the Siege Impactor mold would be a perfect companion piece to Super7 Bludgeon.

To this day I'm deeply annoyed that the back half of Combiner Wars was made up of lazy G1 character retools and not something more original. I would have KILLED for them to have RID Spychanger limb bots.

Or, y'know, actually did RID Ruination. He was literally a Bruticus repaint and you had all the team except Movor (though really it isn't like the name made much sense originally anyway).

RID ruination was actually released but as a Takara boxset exclusive. He's called "baldigus" over there. He was one of the later sets so he included the dedicated hands and feet instead of the handfeet most came with. I think there was a reissue of it a while back but I can't remember.

I grew up on movieverse.
Primus, I feel old as shit now.

I second everything people were saying about the old Marvel TF Comics. They are wacky fun. Not really /good/ most of the time. But a fun read.

I jumped off IDW about halfway through the MTMTE/Lost Light, RID runs. For a while I really enjoyed how they were spackling over the mess that they made when they went from FurmanIDW to All Hail Megatron and from that to Costa's 'The Transformers', and referencing a lot of old school material. But then shipping and wokeshit started snowballing, and I saw how the dangerhair tumblerinas were swarming over it like flies, and I had to take a break. I figured I'd go back binge it after it ended. Three years out from the older continuity ending, and I still haven't gone back.

How are the comics now? Anything worth reading?

I learned the lesson of "sleeping in on the weekends is baller af" early in life, so I never bothered much with the G1 cartoon, but was all up on the comics., dropped off heading into G2
iirc one of the early G2 comics had a cameo of Servo and Crow

Speaking of g2, did you see the thing about the Target product listing leak for a new Jhiaxus figure? Kinda hoping they're finally gonna do a marvel comic accurate take on him, considering he was originally a comic-exclusive character. Closest thing we have to that right now is the retool of generations armada starscream they painted the same colors as the universe figure.

So we're getting new Laser Rod G2 Prime and Jihaxus.

With new armada starscream also happening I have to wonder if he'll be the base again.
