Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

Speaking of g2, did you see the thing about the Target product listing leak for a new Jhiaxus figure? Kinda hoping they're finally gonna do a marvel comic accurate take on him, considering he was originally a comic-exclusive character. Closest thing we have to that right now is the retool of generations armada starscream they painted the same colors as the universe figure.
that's samurai skeleton guy, right? I saw that in the thread a post or few back
that's neat that they're actually making a new toy that looks like the character instead of repainting some shit and saying it's the character
So we're getting new Laser Rod G2 Prime and Jihaxus.

With new armada starscream also happening I have to wonder if he'll be the base again.
Armada was the cool noble anime warrior Starscream, right?

Samurai skeleton is Bludgeon, Jhiaxus is a character that was originally only in the Marvel G2 comics, which were a continuation of the marvel G1 comics. If you look up "jhiaxus G2" pics will probably come up. He's a large silver guy with a red head and an alt mode similar to Scourge, despite his robot mode being a lot more bulky than scourge's. Please note by scourge I mean g1 scourge and not RiD or cybertron scourge, as for some crazy ass reason there are 3 completely different characters in transformers with the same exact fucking name.

EDIT TO AVOID DOUBLEPOST: I'm REALLY hoping Jhiaxus is a new mold instead of a scourge retool. He's a pretty big guy, and though he has some visible similarities to scourge, it'd look weird seeing him shorter than megatron. He's around grimlock's height from the pics I've seen of him, so maybe a heavy grimlock retool would work. Leaders are voyagers with some extra accessories and more complex engineering now, so they could literally just do a shellformer style approach and make it work for voyager if they want to do a retool instead of a new figure.
I'm really pleased in general with the whole "consistent robot mode scaling" thing they've been trying to go for with these last few lines so far. Really has been a nice change of pace after just "optimus prime but in 5 different scales and some characters never get a properly scaled release" like it used to be. Only 2 so far I consider somewhat out of scale are astrotrain and jetfire, the former being too short and the latter being pretty much masterpiece sized.

To this day I'm deeply annoyed that the back half of Combiner Wars was made up of lazy G1 character retools and not something more original. I would have KILLED for them to have RID Spychanger limb bots.

Or, y'know, actually did RID Ruination. He was literally a Bruticus repaint and you had all the team except Movor (though really it isn't like the name made much sense originally anyway).
I’m annoyed that they followed up a fantastic toyline like Titans Return with Power of the Primes, and dragged by boys Darkwing and Dreadwind into it.
Primus, I feel old as shit now.

I second everything people were saying about the old Marvel TF Comics. They are wacky fun. Not really /good/ most of the time. But a fun read.

I jumped off IDW about halfway through the MTMTE/Lost Light, RID runs. For a while I really enjoyed how they were spackling over the mess that they made when they went from FurmanIDW to All Hail Megatron and from that to Costa's 'The Transformers', and referencing a lot of old school material. But then shipping and wokeshit started snowballing, and I saw how the dangerhair tumblerinas were swarming over it like flies, and I had to take a break. I figured I'd go back binge it after it ended. Three years out from the older continuity ending, and I still haven't gone back.

How are the comics now? Anything worth reading?
The best TF comic in years is the Transformers: 84 one shot and it’s tie-in miniseries, Secrets and Lies. It’s a prequel to Marvel G1 with Punch/Counterpunch as the protagonist and it really sheds some background on key characters, Straxus, Magnus, Wreckers and it introduces characters who were missed during the Marvel run.
I learned the lesson of "sleeping in on the weekends is baller af" early in life, so I never bothered much with the G1 cartoon, but was all up on the comics., dropped off heading into G2
iirc one of the early G2 comics had a cameo of Servo and Crow
G2 has aged very well, many of it’s ideas became mainstays and it “unofficially” influenced the plot of the Beast Wars cartoon. One of the show runners envisioned the Vok as the evolved Swarm and that their experiments were an attempt to correct their mistakes, he also envisioned Jhiaxus not just blowing up San Francisco but causing an extinction event that ended the human race.

Makes me really wish Furman would be allowed to canonize Alignment once and for all.

Jhiaxus should have the “bully” proportions, standing almost to Grimlock height but standing taller than Optimus and Megatron.

I maintain that Jhiaxus was visually inspired by Darkseid, his first proper figure should get the height right and set a proper scale for him moving forward.

I still need to get into the UK shits so I can learn the true early days of everybody's favorite Freelance Peacekeeping Agent, yes?

Yeah, that height seems pretty right. With his similarities to scourge if a new figure is made like that It'd also work out for a "matrixbearer scourge" generations selects figure. There's a single episode in g1 where scourge uses the matrix to try and usurp galvatron, but it clearly causes him physical pain to do so and it's visibly slowly killing him. He's all weird, welt covered, and melting which is something not really replicable in the format of a transformable figure. The size and warped head are though.

Thankfully, a clip of the thing I'm talking about here is readily available on youtube.

I got some of the nice Titan Books trade paperbacks of the UK stuff really cheap about 12 years ago. The IDW UK Transformers Classics trades are also nice, but the format is smaller. The UK Titan stuff was reprinted as big as the original comic magazine was (think Life magazine size) They cover earlier stuff than the UK ever reprinted, but they were cancelled before they finished.

I'll have to look up the Transformers '84 stuff.

I downloaded it around the same time and am just too lazy to follow up
edit but yeah I know what you mean about the print size, I got a shitload of the UK Dark Horse Aliens mag because big is cool

Power of the Primes really pissed me off because the toyline, while I guess okay enough, was just Hasbro trying to combine Combiner Wars with Titans Return, but the worst was the fact it took the utterly uninspired crap from the Covenant of Primus and made it the de-facto roster of the Thirteen.

I mean, you had this collection of demigods that was slowly built up over time with each reveal generally being a big deal, or in some cases retconned characters that deserved to be among that group I.E. Fallen and Alpha Trion.

And then Hasbro, in setting up Aligned, just takes the half-completed roster and utterly BOTCHES it by shoving half-baked concepts into the rest of the roster and making a bunch of generic nobodies that sounds like a pathetic attempt at mimicing the Egyptians having a god for everything. Does anybody even care who the hell Onyx Prime is? And Solus Prime's entire function in the Covenant is being female so Megatronus (the only GOOD idea in the whole shitshow was making it so G1 Megatron named himself after The Fallen since taking on the name of the robot devil is kind of in character) could go evil over a love triangle, and then she gets turned into, I shit you not, a FUCKING BIRTHING CHAMBER as the Well of All Sparks. What the hell is this garbage, Cybertron's version of A Handmaid's Tale?

Oh, and then the piece de resistance? Optimus Prime is the 13th member - or a reincarnation of him. They legitimately canonized Optimus Prime as robot Jesus.

The only saving grace any of that shit had was the Ask Vector Prime thing was smart enough to introduce a backdoor excuse to allow Alchemist Prime (seriously, what an uninspired name) to potentially become the proprietor of Maccaddam's Old Oil Bar, since at least for me I always canonized the mustached bartender guy as both Macaddam disguised as one of his own employees AND as a member of the thirteen due to the bar's hardline neutral ground stance across all continuities

I like that we finally have a dedicated pantheon for the TF mythos, I just really hate the execution. The romance ark is gay and neutered Megatronus from a Horus Lupercal-like figure to prequel-era Darth Vader.

Liege Maximo also suffered being turned into a Loki knockoff rather than his previous robo-Sauron incarnation and also losing his empire in the process.

The Last Autobot, the “new god” isn’t even in there. He should’ve been the thirteenth rather than Optimus.

More Primes should’ve turned traitor as well, Quintus Prime (who does nothing) should just be replaced with TLK Quintessa who is far more interesting as a character. The Fall of the Primes should have had more weight, an actual god war.

Yeah, like I said, aside from the reverse-name thing going on so Megatron names himself after The Fallen (which allows the lore bit about him first simply being 'Miner D-16' to also remain true as part of his Fallen Spartacus like origin), everything about Megatronus is dumb. Even his design from the Covenant is uninspired - ironic given how his original War Within incarnation was itself a rejected Megatron design but at least there he looked like a giant sentient furnace constantly on fire which fits the character. Aligned Megatronus looks like a more cobalt painted Aligned Megatron wholesale.

And Liege is there in name only, honestly, since he was at the end of the G2 comics. They clearly didn't know what to do with him.

Good point about The Last Autobot, I forgot all about him but he absolutely should be the Thirteenth.

I VEHIMENTLY disagree that Quintessa ever needs to be made a bigger part of the franchise, though, I absolutely despise that character and she would ruin everything because according to Lorenzo di Bonaventura, she actually was human to begin with.
But actually, if you look at the mythology, the mythology of The Quintessa is that she very well and was probably human. So when you go back in time and go through that 6 billion years of mythology, there's certainly a current of thought within it that says she was a human character and perhaps was actually the first one who built the Transformers.

Anyone notice that the 86 movie is getting a two day theatrical release next month?

I see you all mention Hasbro often, does anyone collect 3rd party? I've dived deep into collecting this shit during the pandemic.

I have the third party shattered glass Optimus prime Train that was a limited run of like 300 ccording to the box but weirdly it didn't sell for years till it eventually got marked down to 30 dollars a few years ago, which is when I ended up getting one. Was gonna get a second one due to the car linking gimmick, but it sold out by that time. Some things say there were 500 and if I emember this right the first 300 had some extra accessory the others didn't, or was it the ones after the first 300? I can't remember. All I know is I got a really cool figure for a decent price. Shit was originally $200 or something batshit insane like that as per the standard.

Similarly have a few third party masterpiece figures I got for $40 to $60 and it's like the only masterpiece stuff I own lmao.

I've got quite a few 3rd Party figures. I have a Mech Ideas Fisitron (Ironfist) that I bought secondhand a few years ago that happened to have some reprolabels applied (both the full set intended for reprolabels as well as a Wreckers autobot logo on his shoulder which I thought was a nice touch) and a non-Hasbro 'My First Blaster' which I forgot the company that made it (it was designed for a 3rd Party Swerve, which I only figured out after I realized the handle was too small to fit into the 5mm hand on the Generations Legends figure, so it sits at that figure's feet because damnit I love how stupid that gun is).

Everything else is Mastermind Creations. First one of those I got was the big boy Carnifex Overlord. Evidently he didn't sell well enough to justify a re-issue since it's been a few years which is a shame because he is absolutely god tier. I'm also working on building the Decepticon Justice Division and have most of the members from MMC - Kultur (Tarn), TorTor (Tessarus), Mors (Helex), Foxwire (The Pet), and Ni (Nickel). Waiting on Cynycus (Vos) and Anarchus (Kaon) to finish the team.

Oh, and I also nabbed MMC Optus Plexus (Stormbringer Optimus Prime) and even got the pre-order pair of gray blasters. This figure is flat out jaw dropping. You WILL be making Jojo poses, that's how freaking insane the articulation is.

I actually prefer The Fallen’s movie design,

I’m primarily a Hasbro collector because most 3Ps do Masterpiece scale stuff and I prefer Hasbro’s CHUG scale. That being said sometimes 3P puts out a figure that the cucks at Hasbro refuse to do.

In this case a Leader-class Fortress Maximus, normally Maxy is a Titan-class figure but there’s two problems with that. One, his recent figure fucking sucks and two, in the Marvel comics Fortress Maximus wasn’t a giant.
C7EC6DB8-A0FD-4671-8FDA-36FFC2184C02.jpeg

Hasbro seemingly refuses to do Marvel-scaled iterations of Maximus and his rival Scorponok.

So I picked up Zeta-EX09 Ford and sculpted some shades over the chinky eyes, painted the face and painted his Headmaster’s face a light flesh tone.

The figure is really cool, he does almost all the things the big 1987 Fort Max could do, even the now redundant base mode.

I've been hitting the G1 masterpieces and originals pretty hard the last 2 years. I finally got space for a collection right as some great stuff was coming out. The new Studio Series 86 and line is great, that Grimlock is a great substitute for the $300 Fans Toys one. It's strange that Cyclonus came out as a Kingdom release instead of Studio Series 86. The Pit of Judgement thing from Hasbro looks great in box, they need to do more of these. In my fucking opinion.

Is it a Fathom thing? Their Gundam releases have looked like some 540p dogshit.

Originally Kingdom was supposed to be a pure 86 movie line, then the new Brand Manager forced in Beast Wars. Causing the 86 cast to be split across toylines.
