Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

I scored a LNIB Civil Warrior CW-01 General Grant figure for a pretty damn good deal. It's a high-end Third Party figure modeled off the War Within Optimus Prime. It's trailer breaks down into weapons, armor, and a jetpack for the figure, and even has LED lights in the Matrix socket, headlights, and ion cannon. Should be here in a week or so.

What made you want to buy it? You a fan of War Within or just like the design?

I’m waiting on Tricranius (Pulse Accessory Pack 2) and Kingdom Cyclonus, both of which are coming this week. I was already going to appreciate Cyclonus but I think I’m gonna do so more, parents out of the blue sent me an Amazon card and I used it on Cyclonus.

In hand pics of Selects Galvy at some chinky shop, it’s astounding how crisp he looks compared to his retail counterpart. Though that egghead, purple crest and red eyes need to be fixed.

This more neutral lighting makes it look like his grey might actually be simlarly colored to Masterpiece hot rod's hands. I've had this hunch for a while looking at the figure in the other photos of it and the reviews by people that managed to get the figure early that had kinda harsh white lighting. If it's close enough that opens up possibilites for an incredibly easy but dubious in pricing mod to give him the opening hands gimmick studio series rod has. I like the red eyes, though yellow, white, or chrome like marvel had going with this guy would definitely pop more.

On the topic of early figure-getters, I'm somehow more ok with people getting things early from leaked factory samples than people getting them early for free from the company themselves. There's apperently some weird drama shit going on with that right now in some parts of the internet and I've seen wars in some youtube review comment sections either. The weird shit though is it's double sided dumbassery Some of the people who get the figs early pay scalpers thousands just to have it a few weeks before everybody else.

Thing might be extremely jumbled here as my body is actively trying to force me unconscious right now lmao

A combination of really liking the design and getting a decent deal. I haven't read the War Within comics, but I really dig the Cybertronian designs they gave the characters. It's my first 3A figure and I'm very impressed with the detailing, articulation and build quality. It's about half the height of my Scorponok figure, but because of all the die-cast in its construction it weighs nearly as much. Now I'm strongly considering getting a similar scale and style 3A Megatron to complement him. I'm really liking the MegaTank Monocrat since it's a little larger and has a similar Cybertronian style, so I think I'm going to pre-order one while I can since I'm working a lot of overtime currently and have some disposable income. Working all this OT is why I really haven't had the time to take photos of my new figures and post them up yet, but I will when I get the chance.

Actually just got Kingdom Galvatron (finally). He's good but I'm really not convinced he couldn't have been sold as a Voyager, especially if they cut out the the pointless guns and really kind of crappy Matrix chain. The battle damage sucks too.

Overall I'd put him above Magnus but below BW Megs in terms of Kingdom Leaders.

I talked with the boys over on /toy/-/tfg/ about this. Galvatron should’ve had the articulated hands like Rodimus/Hot Rod/Optimus. Galvatron is notoriously expressive both in facial expressions and body language, unusually so for Transformers.

If Galvatron could actually grab people then I’d be satisfied and I think more people would be, hell if they needed to give him an accessory to justify the price then he should have his G1 toy’s rifle. Galvatron has an accessory (matrix) that he cannot use.

But Galvatron is made by Lenny, the same hack-fraud who made Rhinox. Lenny’s run as Brand Manager has been a disaster and Galvatron’s weirdness really highlights this, egghead, wrong colour, out of place battle damage, useless accessories and following the “Galvatron Curse” in a depressing tradition.

Really sad compared to Cyclonus and Scourge.

BTW SS Sweep in hand comparison

Alright, coming into thread, with a very honest approach.

I’m a new fan. I know frighteningly little.

I got interested because of a single track, from a single scene, that came on when I was just clicking videos on my recommended mix feed on YouTube at work.

It was called the Death of Optimus Prime. And if honestly moved me to tears, which giving it a few listens again I’m not afraid to admit. There’s something terribly haunting about it. Like a nuclear bomb went off, and I’m witnessing the final thoughts and feelings of everyone who was to have a bright life ahead, only to have it erased in a flash and bang. It feels like the funeral to hopes and dreams the birth of monstrous uncertainty. And, after having watched the first 2 seasons and the movie, I was right. And, having my feelings on the matter be that accurately reflected into a music piece is god’s work.

I watched the show for 2 seasons, which I know is referred to a Generation 1st, or G1. I had been watching it in the background of work, vaguely interested, because it was better then serving the drunks that came in as often as they did for their wine. It distracted me and reminded me of the goofier cartoons I watched in my childhood. There was a wholesome comfort to it.

This was the point in where the movie belonging to that particular music track would kick in. I wasn’t expecting the auto bots and deceptions to have their insides cooked inside out with the light leaving their eyes as they die forever while a trail of their soul through smoke escapes through their mouth. Then, the very hero of heroes fatherly figure just. Dies. Like really dies, and you see his corpse turn to hardened stone. He’s really gone. And nothing can bring him back but another alternate universe, in another iteration.

I cannot begin to imagine the immense emotional trauma people in the 1980’s felt in theaters seeing their robot dad and moral support burn the edge of his mortal coil and pass on into the equivalent of heaven.

It’s not a good movie, in all honesty. It’s not. But it sure as hell is a jarring and fascinating one. I liked it, for all of it’s flaws. Those moments, the quiet moments between the fighting really made it for me. The “Everything will be okay, let’s goof off“ to “War hasn’t changed, life is meaningless in the face of an uncaring universe, and if all of this, all we have done, is truly meaningless, then all that we must do is give all meaning.”, it’s a surprisingly really touching and soft way to tell kids about the harsh reality of earth with a degree of separation.

And for an 80’s cartoon meant to sell toys much in the same way He-Man (a show I love and know well) did, that’s morbidly real.

I looked into it and the more I did the more confused I became with several continuities, factions, planets, and altered back stories to the cast, in particular, Optimus himself and Mega Tron. I’m interested, really, but I wasn’t prepared.

I’d like something to read, or to watch, from a personal perspective. What is your recommendation to someone like me?

Tl;Dr a soundtrack from a children’s movie on a soul sucking day of work made me cry, I got embarrassed then intrigued to find out it was from an 80’s Mecha Cartoon, watched some of it in the background, watched the film the track was from, and now it has fueled my interest. What to fuel it with is the question.

Dog, the Transformers movie soundtrack is so good. I've been a fan of Transformers since Beast Wars when I was a boy, only got around to watching G1 and the movie within the past year or two. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and the first two seasons. I haven't moved onto the third season yet, or the "4th season", which is more like a series of epilogue episodes for G1.

If you can get past the jarring mid-90's CG, I'd highly recommend Beast Wars. Some of my favorite Transformers come from that, namely Dinobot and Beast Wars Megatron.

The Netflix War for Cybertron series was pretty alright, it has some really cool moments in it.

There's also a whole series of Japanese cartoons set within the G1 continuity if you want to explore that. Scramble City, Headmasters, Supergod Masterforce, Victory, and Zone are the series to look into for that.

I watched the early 2000's Unicron Trilogy of cartoons when I was a wee lad, but I can't say I'd recommend anything past the first series Armada.

Thanks for the recommendation! I've been hearing a lot of good about Beast Wars involving the writing, and the idea of the autobots "returning to monke" and living in prehistoria is super fascinating. I won't mind the CGI tbh, visuals don't immediately repulse me.

I’ll defend Armada to my dying day, it always felt like a “soft continuation” of where things left off before the Beast Wars. Optimus is the same kind of recessed semi-truck he was in G2 as opposed to the cab-forward design in G1, Megatron is a green tank, the mini-cons are the spiritual successor to the Master lineage gimmicks, Starscream ditched the blue just like G2 and it introduced a new generation of characters. A G2-2.0 if you will, plus it introduced cartoon audiences to eldritch Unicron, made the interesting choice to have a cold, almost distant Optimus who secretly enjoyed war and was struggling to keep berserker-tendencies in check, Megatron was a legitimately charismatic father to his men and while harsh at times wasn’t above joking around with them, also fell into a depression when Optimus died and that’s not even mentioning how the whole conflict is over a “slave race” who were a intentionally designed that way.

Fun fact, background lore shows that the Beast Wars-era characters were deliberately designed to bridge the gap between organic life and synthetic. Even more interesting is that the future of Beast Wars is implied to be a dystopia.

Showrunner Bob Skir in interviews alluded to a future where mankind is extinct, the faction line is still very much intact to the point where Maximals and Predacons regard each other as seperate races entirely and an Illuminati exists.

Glad to see you’re enjoying it, I’ve only ever bought one 3p in my time. The leader-class Fort Max, Zeta Toys Ford because Hasbro refuses to do Scorponok and Max in Leader scale, Marvel-style.

New Saber unlock got revealed: A really kind of underwhelming and crappy stand. IMO really shoulda been the shield instead. But I think the chances of this hitting 17K are miniscule. Seems like something they just phoned in because they know that.

See I think it will hit tier 3, compared to the other Haslab projects Star Saber is ahead of schedule and we still have all of honourable Japanese purchases to be added in, bulk orders from retailers and the faggots who only back these things when it’s a sure thing.

I'd like it to hit all the tiers but I dunno, it seems to have slowed down recently. It doesn't help that Hasbro's marketing in general has been incompetent as shit lately and I still have no idea why there's no colored pics at this point.

What's weird is people have found out his hand pegs are the same size as masterpiece hot rod as well as the masterpiece carbots. I've seen people mod the hands onto him as I've seen but thing is it's literally as easy as just taking the parts and jamming them on. He still transforms with them as well apperently which makes it even stranger. Part of me kind of feels like they might've intended at one point to give him articulated hands.
The real small thing that bugs the fuck out of me is the fact that the little back spike thing is too short. it doesn't go over his head like it should. Unlike rhinox which feels like a half assed last minute creation this galvatron is near perfection save for the weird small flaws that build up inot a kinda fucking off look. Kind of suffers fromt he same stuff that fucking 200 dollar fanstoys galvatron has the fucked up legs and squished looking head but weirdly inversed. Thankfully unlike that travesty this figure isn't 200 dollars, though scalpers are willing to force that into being a thing.
The thing that REALLY screws me up most about kingdom galvatron is his weird purple battle damage is actually the color he SHOULD be which is why when and if I manage to get one I'm more than likely not going to remove the battle damage. He just looks too weird as a flat grape ass color with no details on people's "fixed" copies of him to me. The other 2 guys in his crew are colored like the g1 cartoon but then galvatron's just dark ass purple instead of the proper vibrant pale bluish purple that's only slightly darker than cyclonus. It'd make sense for them to make him darkly colored if the others didn't follow the g1 cartoon/headmasters anime colorations but they do, leaving galvatron the odd man out. Kingdom rodimus shares a similar coloration issue where he's colored in a way that matches his original masterpiece toy rather than the animation model he's clearly based on. His facesculpts kinda fucking weird too in a 'faces of meth" kinda way. Who knew those crystals in the matrix were really just crystal meth the whole time?

Well I can explain Rodimus. He isn’t based on the cartoon or the original toy, Kingdom Rodimus is Marvel Rodimus, he’s got the sword, retains the bright red in Rodimus form and aged face which started in the UK comics and was carried over in Regeneration One.
AAFE1761-BA68-47B1-94B7-0701032C193C.jpeg

In the comic he has a smooth boy face as Hot Rod and after his ascension he gets a rugged Clint Eastwood face.

Galvatron and his goons are cursed, no two ways about it. I’m anticipating a repaint down the line in SS 86 to bring him to his proper colours. Also because Galvy is a high-demand figure and distribution is kinda gay right now.

Would love a toy-colours Cyclonus to go with SS Sweep (toy colours Scourge) and Selects Galvatron. Maybe they throw in Nightstick for all those who aren’t using Classics Nightstick with Kingdom Cyclonus.

I've always had this tinfoil hat theory that they intentionally put the battle damage on Galvatron to make him "imperfect" so they could sell him again in SS86 somewhere down the road with a clean paintjob. I believe they did say in an interview that being in the Generations mainline won't stop them from doing the same characters again in SS or vice versa (I guess Earthrise Starscream into Coronation Starscream is an example of that).

I'm personally hoping for something like that, as well as the factory leaked reformatting galvatron actually being announced officially. I don't want another thrilling 30 transmetal megatron situation again. It might end up even more absurd than that situation, given the fact the variant error beast wars toy headsculpt clearly meant for t wrecks that got into some copies of kingdom beast megatron ending up not being used for the final mass production run of T wrecks, leaving a weird "painted on teeth" effect that was clearly not intended but they went through with to the point it's even in the stock photos. I was kinda hoping to run into one of those weird error megatrons but the fucking stores NEVER STOCK ANYTHING. The only kingdom figures I have are cyclonus, optimus primal, and beast megatron. It's been like this for this whole fucking year, and beast megatron's card was fucking stolen. Surprised the person didn't just steal the whole damn figure with what I've noticed going on with big name retailers the last 2 years. The shitty space jam lebron figure head theft phenomenon is a good example of MANY things in a similar vein. They just don't fucking give a shit about upkeep anymore. they just let the shelves sit full with headless lebrons that won't sell just to make helves look stocked, slam cheap space jam and shang chi stuff that doesn't sell in the spots for exclusive collector oriented box sets and flip the box sets on ebay for 400 dollars. It's not even relegated to exclusive stuff either, just pretty much anything people actually want is slowly becoming scalper exclusive. The transformers I've obtained this year all feel like flukes as they were usually the only one in stock, usually jammed in a corner, or are weird recolors like the toy/marvel colors galvatron that aren't coming out for months. Fuck everything.

Speaking of Selects Galvatron, an Anglo got his in today. “White is right Galvy” might be shipping sooner than later, almost as if Hasbro is desperate and know how badly they wet the bed for Kingdom. This seems like a “We see you guys want Galvatrons, well here’s a Galvatron, sure it’s not the one you grew up with but please buy it while we cook up more Kingdom Galvatrons.”

At this rate Galvatron is quickly becoming Turbo Man from Jingle all the Way.

This, I personally detest that Brit but his basics are pretty good. Just stay away from his character focus vids, that boy likes his IDW too much. Real men read Marvel TF and it’s spin-offs.

I can already see SS Galvatron, retooled hands, dumb ships cut, longer back piece and proper colours. How much you wanna bet he’ll be in a box set? I can see it.

Probably because egg people with faces that rotate to show their different emotions and frog goblin men that turn into alligators aren't as blatantly space-jew-y as the ferengi.
