That doesn't even seem that crazy, that because the site is called Kiwi Farms somehow New Zealand thinks it has greater jurisdiction, or they're afraid that if someone looks up "New Zealand Agriculture" this site could come up and people would assume it's associated with the NZ government and it'll hurt their international reputation.

Realtalk if you've ever been part of any sufficiently large organization, corporate, government, or charity, you quickly learn that 90% of the time when some action is done over and over and over again it's a bunch of tech and possibly regular illiterate boomers who never read emails and memos telling them that X action has already been done and failed, and then they fucking do it again, thinking they're the first to come up with this brilliant idea.

@Null I love the transparency, but having canary in the title is misleading. The purpose of a canary is to have a regularly ongoing post that will leave things out if shit is awry. It's usually done monthly and is the same shit time and time again. If something is missing from the canary it is a clue to users that something is wrong. It is a kind of circumnavigation of the law. For a super simple example you could have a canary that has a line that says no user data has been compromised. If that line disappears then we know something is up. According to the law and the forces placed upon you you could add an addendum at the end explaining the situation. If the warrant wouldn't allow an explanation it would tell us to guard our shit. This is a workaround because by American law the authorities can prohibit you from discussing something, but they cant stop you from posting something on a regular schedule and leaving something out. The scheduling thing is kind of big. If you only do it every now and then and leave something out they can assume that you are breaking their bullshit terms. My ass is covered but if there is going to be a Kiwi Farms canary let's do it right. It should be released on the same day every month and cover any potential threat that you can imagine and have a broad line also like "we aren't fucked" or some shit for worst case scenarios. Coming up with the canary is the hardest part. Copy pasting it once a month is pretty simple except when some retard makes terroristic threats and you have to explain it to us. If you want my help devising a canary I'm game. I know you have enough on your plate already.

So what information was surrendered? I imagine that the email address and log of IP address were sent but was anything else Included? Also how long are you legally required to hold logs of IPs before they are deleted if it is a law in the US?
