I dunno if it was because of a trigger or not, but someone I follow was asked to tag anything with the Pokemon Greninja in it. What could be so horribly offensive or triggering about specifically Greninja is beyond me.
He uses his tongue as a scarf and that's nasty.
That actually reminds me - I remember a while ago this one person was asking other people to tag ghost type pokemon because they were afraid of real ghosts. Makes perfect sense.

I hope they didn't play the games. They'd have to quit halfway through due to the triggering.

I'd make a comment along the lines of "Oh, so it's okay to show ponies getting cut up but not okay to draw porn" when I realized that all of that sounds so fucked up that I literally have no sense of perspective and it all sounds like things you should never, ever admit in public that you like...

I remember on some SJW's Tumblr someone kept spamming the anon ask with "that ouija board you reblogged triggered me into a panic attack! Please tag"
I get that ouija boards are superstitious and shit but fucking COME ON
Of course they tagged it though

I think I remember a while back I saw someone post here about some Tumblr fitness blog where some Tumblrina complained that the very idea of people posting fitness-related material like working out or eating healthy was triggering. I think she said it was because it was triggering to disabled people or some shit.
Is this the one?

I have PTSD. And this huge list of triggers nonsense is absurd to me. Spazzing out because a pomegranate looks like gore to you isn't the result of anything but being an idiot. Soldiers being uncomfortable by by fireworks I can understand, rape victims not liking rape jokes, that makes sense. But your average PTSD-er isn't going to be terrified of a list of small, stupidly specific things

Per usual I can't cite any of this, but here's a bit of history/hypothesis on the (mis)use of the word "trigger":

Originally trigger was used specifically to mean "random" physiological response seen in people with trauma. It meant disassociative symptoms seen in Borderline as well as "flashbacks" and behavioral response like in vets with PTSD. Things that were harmless to most, like a fireworks bang, would "trigger" the response.

Later, not totally inappropriately, psychologists started applying the word to Eating Disorders with a separate meaning. With EDs, patients seek out "inspiration" for their disorder, which is actually an obsessive-compulsive symptom. If they came across these inspirations accidentally, their ED response would be "triggered" anyway, causing difficulty in treatment. Shortly after the word started to be misapplied (by the media?) to mean a combo of "dieting inspiration" and "anything that anorexics do". For example, 2 anorexics will meet in treatment and feel like the other one is thinner (because they can't see their own size), thus triggering them to fight treatment. But then everything from thinking about food to the weather became lumped in as "thinspo" and thusly trigger material.

Meanwhile on the blogosphere genuine folks complained about the lack of warnings for things like graphic content of rape or child abuse. They pushed for content warnings.

But then all these things collided in Tumblr and some other social media, and, well.

I always wanted to pull up and source the earliest uses of the word "trigger" to track its evolution, but I haven't gotten around to that project yet.

Is sad when you know that your userbase is full of crybabies, trannies and idiots

Not even real trannies, either, mostly special snowflakes trying to claim they're trannies for victim points. They hate real trannies with a passion, especially those of us who tell them to fuck off.

I concur about the crybabies and idiots, however. There are people so thin-skinned that they pretend anything outside of their exceedingly narrow comfort zone is akin to PTSD flashbacks and people who think that, for example, you can get somehow infinite chocolate slices by moving the slice around a bit (it's an optical illusion). There are a few who are sane, but it's hard to find the gems among the swine's slop.

I know a person who is triggered irl by mentions of poop. Not just talking about something pooping, but like, we can't even say "oh shit" around him or else he'll "dissociate" and make lots of passive aggressive comments about "respecting people's feelings" or some shit.

shockingly enough, he's also a "gender euphoric" t-guy.

Some Tumblrinas get triggered by genderbends/rule 63, claiming the concept is transphobic and that it implies you have to look a certain way to be an "actual" gender. It's especially bad if they headcanon a character as being trans or non-binary, in which case they really go batshit.

Needless to say, if you try to tell them that it's all in good fun, they respond much like Chris - "X does not have a vagina! Change it back NOW!!1"
