President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights.

“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.

“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.

Trump was responding to comments from Vice President Pence that families and local law enforcement should have more tools to report potentially dangerous individuals with weapons.

“Allow due process so no one’s rights are trampled, but the ability to go to court, obtain an order and then collect not only the firearms but any weapons,” Pence said.

"Or, Mike, take the firearms first, and then go to court," Trump responded.

Trump met with lawmakers on Wednesday to discuss gun laws and school safety in the aftermath of a Feb. 14 shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla., that left 17 people dead.

The suspected shooter, Nikolas Cruz, was able to legally purchase the AR-15 reportedly used in the shooting despite numerous calls to law enforcement about his unstable behavior.

yea but we're not used to having the POTUS being one as well. Think about it the POTUS actually said the federal government should just ignore the constitution and take away guns wily nily.

Some Trump supporters are finally realizing he's an empty vessel today. The dude has no principles, he isn't "trolling": he just says dumb shit because he's dumb. There's no "4D chess". Some on the /'theDonald today are having hard time coming to grips with that fact. It's like no shit, you didn't see this coming? As others have said, this guy was a liberal NYC democrat before he was the conquering alt-right and GOPe (begrudgingly) hero.
This is the exact, same thing people were saying when he voiced that he'd be willing to allow 1.8 million immigrants to fall under the DACA agreement. Every single person you could find was running around with their hair on fire, and every single one of them was screaming "Betrayal!" from the roof of any building they could stand on. Have you noticed where that whole fiasco wound up? It's Trump's weapon, now. This wasn't even a month ago.

I would not say he is dumb. I would just say that he is not exactly what they dream him up to be.

Fair enough. I think it's pretty clear that he has no principles either conservative or liberal and that's not really what you're looking for in a POL. He was able to fake it well enough and that does take emotional IQ.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the man. I don't see him "winning" on DACA either. I see a lot of sound and fury with very little actual legislative accomplishments. Last I checked DACA is still the law of the land.

I thought you guys followed politics. Obama makes a speech and the media laps it up and tells everyone he's doing something. When he's done nothing.

Trump can't do that, because he's not Obama, so he has to say something crazy so everyone covers that he's being tough on the issue, fully knowing that even if implemented the Supreme Court would simply slap it down. And then either its thrown in the trash after the whole debacle blows over or it's turned into a regular run of the mill background check for crazies bill.

The thing is, it's been decades of this and no one in politics wanted to restrict psychopaths access to guns? Or am I missing something here?

Ironically, Barron Trump has more in common with most Trump supporters than Donald does. That's not an age joke, but think about it, Barron is internet savvy, loves computers and video games, etc etc etc. Trump is an old-school New York liberal real estate billionaire.

It's always amusing to see 25-year-olds project their love of shitposting and 4chan on a 75-year-old man who doesn't use the Internet outside of Twitter.

With each passing day I'm increasingly thankful that Kushner's strategy aimed for an Electoral victory rather than trying to shoe-horn one through a popular vote majority, because holy Christ the average voter is a fucking idiot.

Any competent candidate goes for an electoral victory because that's how you actually win. I can't think of a single candidate (other than the worst candidate in American presidential electoral history) who didn't.

Plus he's autistic.

I was REALLY hoping that Trump would say something like "We'll let you keep your guns, but all gun owners must have chips in their hands to be able to fire the weapons". That would have made the comments section of any Dahboo video a saltslide.

I don't know how anti-gun people reconcile that nignogs have weapons and they aren't legal and their pet darkies are the ones doing most of the shooting.

He has done this a thousand times so far, why anyone would think this means he is actually going to go through with it boggles my mind.
It is fun watching him troll conservatives for a change though.
This also trolls progressives in that it breaks the holy stick of partisan politics over one knee, something that seems to make certain pundits short-circuit. The biggest thing will be who bites the bait harder. I'm tacitly in support of him retaining this stance until anyone at all moves to make this a topic for legitimate discussion.

Partisan politics or not, it just seems like a very bad idea to shit on your base. Especially with something like this.

Who determines which threats are credible? And who makes the decisions on who gets their guns confiscated and who doesn't? This stinks of circumventing both the Second and Fourth Amendments...

Oh wait, *cough*Patriot Act*cough*

Yes, you are. The Brady Bill. Everything that everyone is demanding now has been US law since 1994.

Section 922(g) of the Brady Bill prohibits certain persons from shipping or transporting any firearm in interstate or foreign commerce, or receiving any firearm which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce, or possessing any firearm in or affecting commerce. These prohibitions apply to any person who:

  1. Has been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;
  2. Is a fugitive from justice;
  3. Is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance;
  4. Has been adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution;
  5. Is an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States;
  6. Has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions;
  7. Having been a citizen of the United States, has renounced U.S. citizenship;
  8. Is subject to a court order that restrains the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of such intimate partner, or;
  9. Has been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

Ben Shapiro and conservative twitter sperged out hard today. Shapiro seemed ready to throw himself off the Trump train. I know some consider the "Reagan battalion" account GOPe and traitorous "never Trumpers" but I'm seeing this a lot tonight:
