That and it’s music.I'm willing to argue that the backgrounds were the only good thing to come out of steven universe.

That's fair, it had a pretty solid OST it's a shame all the franchise is used for now is poorly received ""anti racism"" messages. Considering the main demographic I shouldn't be surprised. Seriously how wasn't this mocked more though? It's so bad it's hilarious. That and it’s music.
The first one was pretty bad. Didn't mind the last one though, mostly for Greg's inclusion. That's fair, it had a pretty solid OST it's a shame all the franchise is used for now is poorly received ""anti racism"" messages. The backgrounds and music are great but this is an entire world and three artistic movements away from Yoshi's Island.Well it’s a matter of taste of course, I personally like the colour palette, the bright sunny colours and colourful backgrounds were meant to be reminiscent of the art style of Yoshis Island, to give a warm and fluffy aesthetic to the show.
I mean just look at these vivid, warm and beautifully coloured and detailed backgrounds, your really telling me they aren’t pretty and visually pleasing?
Seven degrees of Yoshi's Island is now my go-to thing for cartoon criticism lolThe backgrounds and music are great but this is an entire world and three artistic movements away from Yoshi's Island.
I cannot believe Domee Shi did not fucking think how disrespectful it is to invite literal raving fanatics around what is supposed to be a spiritual space. I don't know if Mei's "temple" has any basis in reality (maybe that's just how they do it Canada) but I don't even believe in any of this shit yet I can tell you shrines for people's ancestors should be in a quiet, clean, undisturbed, rarely used corner of the family home precisely because having countless strangers passing in and out is immensely disrespectful and bad juju waiting to happen. It's even (mildly) bad if you put the shrine in a hallway because people shouldn't be constantly walking past it. They're dead people who are supposed to be resting in peace.Holy shit. I didn't even think of this.
Yeah. I now hate this more than Good Dinosaur.
You just answered your own question. People have the attention span of goldfish these days, and a cute red panda who does dances is exactly the type of thing they'd go ga-ga over. Why do people even like the panda anyway, the whole town seem to go batshit for it within a week when all it does is look cute and do meme dances.
Wow, I had no idea. I also really liked Bao, and same as you it made me cry in the theater lol. I guess sometimes, less is more. What works for a 7-minute short isn't automatically going to transfer to a feature-length movie, especially something that is heavily thematic. Like… Bao doesn’t actually HAVE a plot, it’s basically just a plot SUMMARY that lets the premise do the heavy lifting, kinda like the married life sequence from Up.Bao was written and directed by the same woman who made Turning Red, it has virtually the same themes as Turning Red, and is just such an incredibly different/better film (even though it’s only 7 mins). It really makes you wonder WTF happened in the studio that made Turning Red so fucking cringe and lack any real heart warming message or likeability. Bao literally made me cry lol.
idk, these just look really soulless and corporate to me. Sure the palettes are nice, but the lighting just feels completely flat. The hard vector clouds in particular really bother me, it completely kills any sense of depth and makes it FEEL like a static backdrop.Well it’s a matter of taste of course, I personally like the colour palette, the bright sunny colours and colourful backgrounds were meant to be reminiscent of the art style of Yoshis Island, to give a warm and fluffy aesthetic to the show.

Bet she disowned her Chinese practices once she became fully Westernized and just completely forgot about the spirituality side, or she holds such disdain towards her own mother that it extends to Chinese practices in general and she might as well go all the way in being completely disrespectful towards her lineage.I cannot believe Domee Shi did not fucking think how disrespectful it is to invite literal raving fanatics around what is supposed to be a spiritual space.
She had the opportunity to make anything she wanted, I can't understand what would drive her to make a wholeass movie on a topic she doesn't seem to even like that much. It stinks like a vanity project but at the same time it also feels like woke rot set in her brain and, instead of making a straight wish fulfilment movie for her self insert (which would still be shit), she felt the need to insert the period theme and virtue signal she is a POC that had a totally secret special home life compared to every other white kid in Toronto. Everything has to have a message, by making it about periods they secured every potential female audience member by making it intrinsically about them too. This movie has no heart.Bet she disowned her Chinese practices once she became fully Westernized and just completely forgot about the spirituality side, or she holds such disdain towards her own mother that it extends to Chinese practices in general and she might as well go all the way in being completely disrespectful towards her lineage.
It's the same thing as the Hollywood Jews who's identity is purely for political points and will gladly sell out the jewish faith for money.Bet she disowned her Chinese practices once she became fully Westernized and just completely forgot about the spirituality side, or she holds such disdain towards her own mother that it extends to Chinese practices in general and she might as well go all the way in being completely disrespectful towards her lineage.
Holy shit, This alone validates this movie's existence. Not shitty Cal-arts animations that try too hard to be cute but instead come off as obnoxious, not the blatant and creepy metaphor that little girls should be proud to show off their periods. No, it validates itself because an autistic critic online said this movie should have focused more on 9/11 and be more emo.View attachment 3191046

Well at least one good thing came out of this film, Praise be to the cartoon spergs who moronically overanalyse everything and make the most mind destroying takes in history!! More people than ever will be interested in seeing it now, Enter is literally the kind of guy who’ll dig himself a tunnel to the earths core and wonder why he’s covered in dirt, fucking well done imao.
E;R is getting in on the action lol.

Some more tweets mocking the take.
He also made a similar comment on Youtube, likely prior to disabling the comments.

As long as there are ego-centric morons with too much time on their hands, you can always expect someone to make a complete ass of themselves for all to see.Turning Red 9/11 memes was the last thing I'd have expected to come out of this. Goddamn, I love the Internet.

The man knows how to craft a joke, I'll give him that.
I, too, would love to see an E;R breakdown video on Turning Red. It’s been a while since he rode high with Watchmen and Korra.
Jeff Fowler is keeping a close eye on this tweet, his finger hovering over the call button to his scriptwriters. And you thought the exclusion of 9/11 was bad.
