People keep saying they're wowed by Mirage's new parkour but it looks fucking slow and bloated to me. It is clearly just Origins/Valhalla parkour but with a couple more climbing points, and nowhere near the speed or depth of Ac1-Ezio games.
 
Remember when Assassin's Creed used to be good? I decided to replay 2 recently with the DLC I never got to.

The biggest issue with modern gaming is lack of good design. AAA devs just throw big sandbox and "player emergence" while Indie devs stick to roguelite design and "player interaction", because god forbid they waste a millisecond actually thinking how the game should play, but just toss the dice and hope things stick.
Initial AC games had mission design and overall a few ways to do missions, but as the games progressed they just let you do whatever the fuck you wanted which broke a lot of missions.

The Ezio trilogy felt like the last time Assassin's Creed actually cared about being more or less accurate historical simulators. I suppose the colonial-era games were also decent and Unity had some good ideas but shat the bed when it came to putting them together. Syndicate was utterly forgettable and starting with Origins the developers stopped giving a shit entirely. The side-scrolling games were kind of fun though and should've been made into proper installments.
 
Never played old Ass Creed, as I said some posts ago, I had my - fairly terrible - first experience with the series just some days ago. But some of you must be wearing nostalgia goggles while talking because I vividly remember back in the day everyone shitting on Ass Creed for it being mind-bogglingly repetitive.

That was literally the biggest Ubisoft trait of the era. That Prince of Persia reboot was panned by everyone as well for the same reason, no variation and the same shit over and over again.

because people are retarded. there is nothing wrong with the ubisoft open world formula, most of the time you can simply ignore it and play the story. it only matters if you want to 100% it, but that applies to a lot of games.
it's also often comes from people who simply shit on anything open world "because I don't like it", which is the equivalent of whining about the difficulty of dark souls (which isn't difficult either).

the missions itself usually take play in specific setpieces and have their own minigames - in one of the ezio-asscreed you drive a middle-age leonardo da vinci tank for example. climbing yet another tower and checking off another marker on the map can be repetitive, especially if you grind it (that's why you do it between story missions obviously). otoh it can be pretty chill just knocking out some shit in an ubisoft game for an hour or two to unwind after work etc.

I played one ass creed, you are objectively wrong. There's no setpiece of dynamic in those games. They are the same retarded copy-paste shit through and through.

They are very repetitive, especially combat and movement in the first four games. That being said, it's an assassination simulator, not a fencing one. What I remember from back in the day is most people just wanting to fuck around historical Europe, they didn't care for the whole Animus / Desmond storyline and honestly a lot of the "real world" gameplay parts did feel especially jarring.
 
Not just in gameplay, but also in storytelling that AssCreed is so headache inducing
