It's less the consoles and more the cultural zeitgeist shifting with the Gamergate, Brexit and Trump. Though the advent of every game being multiplatform probably ruined a lot of the design philosophy and need to experiment.
And going beyond that with gun violence, MeToo, COVID-19, BLM, Stop Asian Hate, Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, etc.

Don't forget the utter collapse of the medium sized game studio in 2007-2011.

The 7th generation of consoles killed everything except AAA studios and Indies. No reason to experiment when all of the competitors that actually innovate died.

The death of non AAA might very well killed gaming. Everything is so static and corporate safe. Even indies are made by discord tranny commitees.

Ubisoft has apparently started to put advertisements in older titles like Odysee that appear EVERY time you open the map screen. It lasts three seconds and requires you to manually quit out.

Welcome to modern AAA ubishit

It's just a prank technical error bro:

Seems like a fucking weirdly specific error. I absolutely agree with the people saying Ubi were trying this deliberately to see how the community reacted. They've done the same thing a couple of times with The Division 2 where they've tried to push a change they knew the community would lose it's shit over (which it promptly did as soon as it was noticed) and then claimed it was totes an accident and code from a future update "somehow" accidentally got pushed into the live build. of course they've never explained how everytime it happens it's coincidentally a nerf to the player experience, never accidentally pushed any code that was beneficial to the players.

Right of course. So someone, in error, had to make an update to the game where the ad pops up when the map loads, and, in error, had to program the ad to take up the whole screen, and, in error, make it to where you had to manually quit out, and, in error, pushed the update through.

Sounds legit I take it back seven copies of Mirage please.

Imagine buying a AAA game for full price then needing to download Ublock Games and other mods to remove the advertisements. Then not being able to update the game software for risk of making your in game ad blockers incompatible. Or the game then telling you in game with popups "Ad blockers are illegal and against the terms of service" and locking you out of your account.

There wasn't just no reason to not experiment with games, there was no reason to make new games at all. This was the era where publishers figured out that MTX was a money printer as stuff like the Celestial Steed made more money than Starcraft 2.

Imagine going to bat for fucking Ubisoft of all people. More importantly imagine going to bat for Ubisoft with such a blatantly retarded statement. Now imagine making such a retarded statement on the subreddit of a game that was originally scheduled to get less than 2 years support before the execs realized they needed to milk it's corpse some more until Avatar/Star Wars released.

Well, they fucked up a patch deployment yet again. This is what, the second or third time they've shat the bed with a patch deployment now? Not to mention almost every basic weekly maintenance being "unexpectedly" extended.
