After that ate shit they got some little studio to make a rougelite spinoff, which is also a lot of fun but got no marketing and was sent to early access hell.

Ubi actually did the impossible and had a winning line up with this series and their middle management absolutely fucking nuked it from orbit. All they needed to do was be a little more reasonable with their prices, shell out for some marketing and have one of their billion idle in-house teams spit the remake out. Their little reboot series probably would have done well, but Ubi needs a lot more money than just "well" provides and they tried wringing blood from a stone.
The art style (the purple prince crap looking color palette) really killed interest in the game. Even after fixing it I think the damage was too far gone. Considering it was also made by the people that made Dead Cells..... I think most people just ended up playing Dead Cells instead.

/v/ is still having a real one and trying to cope how this acquisition from Tencent is totally a win over the chuds. Also, same people are really sperging out over Elon over that Ubisoft tweet the other day, funny how these two things are connected.

Might just be more lies but supposedly Shadows had the second highest day-one sales revenue in the series. Reluctance to share the actual sales numbers is suspicious but that still doesn't sound too bad, though probably not where Ubisoft would like it to be.
There's a lot of weasel words being used. "Sales by revenue" can mean a lot of things, especially given the price hikes since the series started. Member when the first game cost $50 in 2007? The fact that they continue to use "players" is also suspicious. What constitutes a sale is not what you may think as well. Also they count sales if they sold to retail stores, even if your local Gamestop hasn't sold them.

If they had done well, they wouldn't be sperging out on Twitter with Elon, Hasan, and Grummz. They also wouldn't have opened their ass cheeks to the Chinese.

I don't see anyone winning in this deal, expect maybe Tencent when they inevitably pick Ubisoft's corpse for pieces. But by then the franchises will be worthless.

For those three IPs to become "successful" again you would need major change and innovation, and probably more money than what this investment just gave them. They cannot keep coasting on the current formulas, even if Shadows sold well.

Claims like that without substantive numbers are always lies.

A single number -- the total number of paid sales of the game on all platforms and channels -- would end this entire "debate." That they won't reveal it says all we need to know. It's horrid, and much worse than they want to admit. Otherwise they wouldn't be reluctant to just fucking say how many copies they sold.

I'll be damned. Tencent bit in. I thought they'd hold out for more its not like Ubisoft is in any bargaining position.
No but the longer they wait the more likely Guillemon buys out a controlling interest and takes the company private. It was probably game of chicken between tencent and the guillemon family. watching the price tick further and further down.

agreed. i expected a lot better than 25%, OTOH a billion euros is fuck all, thats only double the cost of that Skull and Bones game ubisoft released last year. valuation wise it means this new company is about half the size of CD porjkect red, which takes years to release games.

considering ubisoft has like 5 different mobile games coming out later this year i wouldn't be surprised if they leave the "AAA/AAAA" sphere of gaming forever to focus on mobile.

non-mobile gaming has been dying and moible games make up the vast majority of gaming revenue.

I wouldn't say non-mobile gaming are dying when the industry with the most mobile of all, China, is trying to pivot to big-budget games like Wukong. This on top of their big mobile games now also playable on PC and Consoles. If mobile really is still the future, then why Tencent is still insistent on buying Ubisoft? That's because everybody know both the prestige and long-run economy are not in mobile but PC and Console

The problem is that the western game industry is too busy filling the game development with useless or corrupt middle management and unnecessary features and graphics

if this is what it takes for the western one to wake up and fix their shit, then I can accept it
The Chinese don't give a fuck. They are among the most bugmen consoomers on the planet so if anything Tencent's influence will mean forcing Ubisoft to stuff even more pay-to-win crap in their games than already exists.

At best we trade DEI for lootboxes, season passes and paid 'time-saving' XP boosts.
The fact that they continue to use "players" is also suspicious.
I am certain there is some book-cooking going on with their Ubisoft+ subscription service, the same way Microsoft uses Game Pass to fluff up their 'record levels of engagement'.

It seems impossible to actually get a hard figure for how many subscribers Ubi+ has, (which I take to mean it's not an impressive number,) but if you already pay for the service then there's no reason not to boot up Shadows at least once whether you intend to play it properly or not.
