I tried thinking of any comic he's made with something genuinely offensive and it's all pretty bog standard aw-shucks-gee-wiz family values ...

"Pray in the closet."
"Enter into monogamy."
"Raise your children."
"Don't beat women."
"Don't rape women."
"Torture pedophiles to death with hot iron rods in the rectum."

Maybe... maybe he wants to improve Nigeria and show dem de wae.

We're basically laughing at how absolutely fucked Nigeria is through the lens of a (relatively) educated Nigerian man with broken english and basic cartooning skills.

I want more.

These comics are kind of nice.

I mean, they're really strange but no-one gets beheaded for holding a door open for someone, and it holds a clear message not to murder women with your pimp hand.

is this...........is this the ghetto "do dey know de wey" version of Jack Chick tracts? :horrifying:

I miss Nigeria now. I thought I'd never, ever miss living there.

But education time. He's writing in Naija pijgin. All the universities have this posted:
Pidgin-Enlisgh.jpg

Praise be and welcome to what will be our newest member: OLOWOGBOGBORO, aka Bros J
:powerlevel: That's a Yoruba word meaning something along the lines of "richly proclaimed".

Can someone please start putting these up in US and British universities? I think the BBC might need one too.

I watched a documentary one time where they set some kid on fire because they thought the kid had stolen a chicken.
Have you ever witnessed something familiar?

One of the things I witnessed was on campus with "Cults". Cults are like a combination of college fraternity and street gang. They will murder you. Much like the sign about keeping pijin off campus, they have "Don't join cults!" signs on the ways in, usually with skulls and crossbones all over them.

So, in a dormitory, there was somebody with their skull bashed in.

Other than that, the universities were pretty cool!

Huh, interesting

Yeah, definitely weird

They will murder you.

what?

Jokes aside, thanks for the response. I read somewhere that now, some gangs in Africa are targeting bald men because they think that they have gold inside their heads. It's a similar belief that made them kill albino kids to perform rituals. And yes, they already killed five bald men.

That's what surprises me about this comic. Ugojesse is genuinely well-educated and holds a lot of progressive views: respect women and don't rape/beat them, mental illness isn't caused by demons, diseases can only be cured with modern medicine, superstitions should be thrown away if they're harmful, etc.

It must be hard having that mindset in a culture where most people are still very backwards. Ugojesse probably started making these comics because he was tired of hearing harmful, inaccurate bullshit day in and day out.

I could see how someone like him could put out these comics as a way of calling bullshit to this outdated thinking.

Yep, but not in Nigeria. In Syria. They burned a girl for "being indecent".
Another bunch of sweet, loving and accepting folks ^^ :feels:
