So a couple things I've started theorizing the past few days
I've said before that I think the shadow crystals are fragments of Gaster since he was "shattered" across space and time. As we've seen by using the glass in the real world, we're seeing stuff that's not happening through them. Jevil learned knowledge he wasn't supposed to and was locked away. Spamton was going on about how he didn't want to be a puppet on a strings and wanted to break free. I'm thinking these bosses are figuring out that they're kinda stuck in a script (I've mentioned this before), which would be the prophecy, and the shadow crystals let them see that they're no longer bound to the script (Hence Jevil's line of "I can do anything" and spamton's talk of breaking his strings).
Gerson was delivered a crystal but he states never used it, likely left to him hoping he'd want to change his death. Then we have the Roaring Knight in chapter 3. I'm really starting to believe that it's the Roaring Knight that's delivering these crystals to these bosses. I think Ramb was supposed to be the recipient of the crystal in chapter 3, but shit hit the fan with the gang not participating in Tenna's third board before it could be delivered to Ramb. I bet Jevil and Spamton had had theirs for a while. Although Ramb seemed to have really cared for Kris, he was at risk of being thrown away with Tenna. This would go in line with Ramb mentioning that freedom was only for big shots, meaning he didn't see himself important enough in the 'story' to be worthy of being anything more since he didn't have a boost.
2nd, I'm really starting to believe the whole theory that the game is covering a 2nd attempt at the prophecy. The theory is that the first time you boot up and save in Deltarune, Kris has his own save file to override. Then, the theory is is that Kris, Asriel, and Dess tried all this before and it ended up with something happening to Dess. In the prophecy the girl has a sword, which of course Susie uses axes. That would explain that, Dess taking her bat into the dark world and it becoming a sword, hence why the knight has the bat to sword animation. Plus there's the old toothbrush Asriel has in his coat pocket, that could explain that.
Ralsei is such a fucking enigma in the game. He's supposed to be prince over this dark world but no one knows who the fuck he is, always appears when you need him, and doesn't follow the turn to stone rule that the other characters do (although chapter 3 made that a clusterfuck with its jokes). I remember during chapter 1 there was a theory that Lancer was the prince of darkness, but that's kinda been disproven, but there's definitely something more to this whole "prince of darkness" in the prophecy, and I doubt it's actually ralsei.
