At his age he almost certainly would have seen some improvement. Could be the painkillers, the withdrawal from the pain killers, an anesthesia event, stress from surgery exacerbating mental illness, etc, etc.

Could be he was pinning his hopes on everything being like it was before.

It's interesting to me that this was done at 1.5 years after his surgery - that's the period of expected improvement.

I was reading other places he was complaining about brain fog and how little doctors could do about it earlier in his life. I'm guessing he was resistant to the idea he might have some psychological problems.

It would be funnier if UHC made him do step therapy and stop using a medication that worked to try something that made him go nuts. My grandpa had them do that to him and it destroyed his liner and he had to do dialysis for over 20 years before his death.
