Law Upcoming vote on Net Neutrality laws - How many times do we need to strike this shit down?

FCC plans to vote to overturn U.S. net neutrality rules in December
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The head of the Federal Communications Commission is set to unveil plans next week for a final vote to reverse a landmark 2015 net neutrality order barring the blocking or slowing of web content, two people briefed on the plans said.

In May, the FCC voted 2-1 to advance Republican FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s plan to withdraw the former Obama administration’s order reclassifying internet service providers as if they were utilities. Pai now plans to hold a final vote on the proposal at the FCC’s Dec. 14 meeting, the people said, and roll out details of the plans next week.

Pai asked in May for public comment on whether the FCC has authority or should keep any regulations limiting internet providers’ ability to block, throttle or offer “fast lanes” to some websites, known as “paid prioritization.” Several industry officials told Reuters they expect Pai to drop those specific legal requirements but retain some transparency requirements under the order.

An FCC spokesman declined to comment.

Internet providers including AT&T Inc, Comcast Corp and Verizon Communications Inc say ending the rules could spark billions in additional broadband investment and eliminate the possibility a future administration could regulate internet pricing.

Critics say the move could harm consumers, small businesses and access to the internet.

In July, a group representing major technology firms including Alphabet Inc and Facebook Inc urged Pai to drop plans to rescind the rules.

Advocacy group Free Press said Wednesday “we’ll learn the gory details in the next few days, but we know that Pai intends to dismantle the basic protections that have fueled the internet’s growth.”

Pai, who argues the Obama order was unnecessary and harms jobs and investment, has not committed to retaining any rules, but said he favors an “open internet.” The proposal to reverse the Obama rules reclassifying internet service has drawn more than 22 million comments.

Pai is mounting an aggressive deregulatory agenda since being named by President Donald Trump to head the FCC.

On Thursday the FCC will vote on Pai’s proposal to eliminate the 42-year-old ban on cross-ownership of a newspaper and TV station in a major market. The proposal would make it easier for media companies to buy additional TV stations in the same market.

Pai is also expected to call for an initial vote in December to rescind rules that say one company may not own stations serving more than 39 percent of U.S. television households, two people briefed on the matter said.
Oh, and Comcast is already lobbying.

I'm so sick of this shit, seriously. The FCC is whoring out for Comcast and AT&T instead of ensuring that American citizens have equal access to the internet.

Why Concerns About Net Neutrality Are Overblown

Can anyone smarter than me tell me if there's any truth to what they're saying here?
Their arguments to bad stuff happening are:

1) Its rare so it will probably never happen to you
2) Its probably going to get them in trouble with the public if they get caught
3) We might make laws to protect ourselves against oversight in the future, maybe

Not exactly knocking it out of the park with these. It all basically amounts to "Just don't think about it." The fact that the author ends the article by claiming the whole discussion is a waste of time speaks volumes.

Okay, I'm honestly scared.

I know there's another vote after if the Congress passes the repeal tomorrow/Thursday but the sheer destruction at how it got so far terrifies me. Not even the other attempts in the past years got this far.

Comcast and Verizon did other shady stuff (One of them even threatened to throttle Netflix so openly) but this is so surreal how nobody, absolutely nobody in law enforcement is doing anything. And the few that could, they were ignored or pushed aside because of their position of power. Disrespectful.

Ignoring the people' words, ignoring and denying to be taken to court despite the building lawsuits by other lawyers, even straight-up bribing the Congress to repeal the bill, Aijit only caring more about the money than the death threats his family is getting, and so much more.

I'm sorry for my doom and gloom but I really, really hopes the FCC and Aijit get smacked in the face
(, punished, and kicked out with nary a few amount of money- fitting for Aijit's growing greed) for their giant hubris.

Same here, it’s scary I agree. But remember we know people aren’t gonna take this lying down. Two articles that might help:
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...down-with-fcc-on-net-neutrality-idUSKBN1E62SQ

And another republican is joining Susan Collins:

Which if the dems wanna fuck the FCC, they have a decent shot at it.

And that makes me wonder if he'd even miss his family, or even his fellow republicans, when/if a bunch of mentally unstable people try to kill them. Because his attitude seems to show he'd be more than willing to throw even Trump under the bus if if weren't for the fear of him being ousted from his position.

And even that feels iffy with the way he's acting.

I think we’ve failed

It never had a chance of succeeding in the first place. This dumb fucking cunt thinks he's some hero when he is just the biggest, most obvious, corporate cocksucker that everyone from Republicans to Democrats can see how large his asshole has been stretched out in the first place by Verizon fucking their little butt boy. He had no intention of listening to the debate, which is why people started calling their reps instead of even trying the FCC.

I mean, nobody is going to take it lying down. Too many people make their living on it. Imagine if you are Amazon and you work from home, like they have programs doing. Suddenly, Amazon needs to pay more because 'employees' are using too much bandwidth. This is really obviously a ploy for dying companies (Cable) and Monopolies (ISPs), to secure their waning power. It is nothing but a naked power grab and there is no good argument against it.

Even if this goes through, people are already gearing up to fight it. This isn't simply going to go away. You've got the industry group for Apple, Google and Amazon 'exploring their legal options'. Pai doesn't have enough lawyers and money to fight this well. He's going to get fucked up the ass ten ways from Sunday. When someone over-reaches like this, basically aligning the entire internet and every corporation on it, you're looking at hell on levels not seen before. Not to mention three more activist groups are planning lawsuits as well. One way to stop this is tie it up in court for so long, it never gets resolved and a new FCC chair replaces Pai and just goes back to previous rules. Even if it does get passed, it will result in an unimaginable shitshow of people rebelling against their ISPs, looking for ways around it, or speeding up of tech to make it obsolete. You might even see industry groups beginning to sue ISPs to break up their monopolies and little fiefdoms just as a spitefuck, to force their way in. Or support lawsuits saying the ISPs haven't lived up to their obligations of infrastructure and their privelages should be revoked. Pai is the living embodiment of a fucking shill retard who better pray verizon hires him back after the absolute Pandora's box he opened.

Even without lawsuits, trolls are gearing up to make his life a fucking living hell. And I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few bricks through the stores of verizon's windows.

And let's not forget that most of the servers for Google, Amazon and their allies also feed primarily through America. So there's potential that other countries will turn against the US once they realize they're getting slowe(er) internet speed because Verizon decided to chokehold Google because some streetshitter's being an exceptional r.etard.

And keep in mind, the ISPs wouldn't be playing favorites to anyone except for Pai and only Pai. So if all of a sudden Trump finds out the ISP he does business for decides to fuck around with Twitter and forces him to pay more so he can keep shitposting. Billionaire or not, he'll more than likely try to force the repeal back just to show Pai that he's an idiot. Because if it won't be a lawsuit or a crazy person trying to kill him. Someone who supported the repeal to begin with would start noticing shit's going on and demand something done about it. More if it's Trump himself.

tl;dr- Pai's fucked, whether it's the American public, the rest of the world or his fellow politicians.

May I ask all of you people who are going all Chicken Little right about now to read these two articles?

https://www.inverse.com/article/38776-net-neutrality-courts-internet
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/22/opinion/courts-net-neutrality-fcc.html

TL/DR: Ajit Pai is a man going up against an entire army with a slingshot.
As true as this is, he's still being an absolute fool over this. And who's to say he won't try to bribe the courts like he did his fellow republicans for support?

Pai is fucked and it isn't optimistic to say so. He's made enemies of Apple ($750 Billion), Google ($590 billion), Amazon ($430 billion), Face Book ($350 Billion).

For Comcast ($193 Billion), Verizon ($126 Billion) and AT&T ($403 Billion).

So,you have nearly $2 Trillion Dollars lined up right against this streetshitter's dumb fucking face, endangering profits and entire business models, while the ISPs are only seeking a bonus on their power. Whose gonna fight harder? The Rich companies who stand to lose the most or ISPs looking for just a little bit more to what they already have? Hm.

Yeah, the little people won't make this happen. But here is what is going to happen: An assault by the biggest and richest tech giants on Earth to pound Pai's bitch ass into the ground. You think Jeff Bezos, the man who is poised to basically kill every industry on the planet, is just going to go, 'Oh, ok. I'm going to just let this happen'. Do you know what working is like at Amazon? Its like fucking social Darwinism. Bezos will go HAM on this shit.

Not to mention the FCC is getting sued right now for its massive debacle on its public comment period, refusing FOiA requests. Which is one way to challenge them, saying they handled the comment period poorly and let false comments go through. Even if they don't give a shit about comments, its still more money and time they have to spend. Not to mention I'm counting 3-4 other lawsuits ramping up.

Net Neutrality is pretty much universally popular. It crosses party lines like no other issue. It has 2 trillion dollars lined up against it, lawsuits already filed, and if lost, a massive spite fucking for as long as that faggot is in office. Not to mention trolls making his life a living hell with mockery, turning him into a giant clown with no respect.

I know people are worried, but take EA: it overstepped by doing a little bit more than what they always do and got fucked. Its game failed and it lost 3 billion in value. Imagine overstepping by so much that basically 90% of the country hates you, you've angered the richest people on the planet and you already are facing court cases for not caring about doing your job. Also the Republicans are currently getting their asses handed to them in elections in every state. Fighting a popular policy among basically everyone may give them second thoughts. Maybe not the committee members, but in general. That's another factor.

My faith isn't in the people, it isn't in Congress. Its in the huge, powerful, richest companies in history that he has aligned himself against. I've never seen someone with that dumb fucking smile on his face eagerly walk into the barrels of companies worth over 2 trillion and think he's going to be some sort of hero or win. If on the off chance, it dies, the spite fucking those companies do will be insane. Entertainment either way.
