Law Upcoming vote on Net Neutrality laws - How many times do we need to strike this shit down?

FCC plans to vote to overturn U.S. net neutrality rules in December
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The head of the Federal Communications Commission is set to unveil plans next week for a final vote to reverse a landmark 2015 net neutrality order barring the blocking or slowing of web content, two people briefed on the plans said.

In May, the FCC voted 2-1 to advance Republican FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s plan to withdraw the former Obama administration’s order reclassifying internet service providers as if they were utilities. Pai now plans to hold a final vote on the proposal at the FCC’s Dec. 14 meeting, the people said, and roll out details of the plans next week.

Pai asked in May for public comment on whether the FCC has authority or should keep any regulations limiting internet providers’ ability to block, throttle or offer “fast lanes” to some websites, known as “paid prioritization.” Several industry officials told Reuters they expect Pai to drop those specific legal requirements but retain some transparency requirements under the order.

An FCC spokesman declined to comment.

Internet providers including AT&T Inc, Comcast Corp and Verizon Communications Inc say ending the rules could spark billions in additional broadband investment and eliminate the possibility a future administration could regulate internet pricing.

Critics say the move could harm consumers, small businesses and access to the internet.

In July, a group representing major technology firms including Alphabet Inc and Facebook Inc urged Pai to drop plans to rescind the rules.

Advocacy group Free Press said Wednesday “we’ll learn the gory details in the next few days, but we know that Pai intends to dismantle the basic protections that have fueled the internet’s growth.”

Pai, who argues the Obama order was unnecessary and harms jobs and investment, has not committed to retaining any rules, but said he favors an “open internet.” The proposal to reverse the Obama rules reclassifying internet service has drawn more than 22 million comments.

Pai is mounting an aggressive deregulatory agenda since being named by President Donald Trump to head the FCC.

On Thursday the FCC will vote on Pai’s proposal to eliminate the 42-year-old ban on cross-ownership of a newspaper and TV station in a major market. The proposal would make it easier for media companies to buy additional TV stations in the same market.

Pai is also expected to call for an initial vote in December to rescind rules that say one company may not own stations serving more than 39 percent of U.S. television households, two people briefed on the matter said.
Oh, and Comcast is already lobbying.

I'm so sick of this shit, seriously. The FCC is whoring out for Comcast and AT&T instead of ensuring that American citizens have equal access to the internet.

Pai is fucked and it isn't optimistic to say so. He's made enemies of Apple ($750 Billion), Google ($590 billion), Amazon ($430 billion), Face Book ($350 Billion).

For Comcast ($193 Billion), Verizon ($126 Billion) and AT&T ($403 Billion).

So,you have nearly $2 Trillion Dollars lined up right against this streetshitter's dumb fucking face, endangering profits and entire business models, while the ISPs are only seeking a bonus on their power. Whose gonna fight harder? The Rich companies who stand to lose the most or ISPs looking for just a little bit more to what they already have? Hm.

Yeah, the little people won't make this happen. But here is what is going to happen: An assault by the biggest and richest tech giants on Earth to pound Pai's bitch ass into the ground. You think Jeff Bezos, the man who is poised to basically kill every industry on the planet, is just going to go, 'Oh, ok. I'm going to just let this happen'. Do you know what working is like at Amazon? Its like fucking social Darwinism. Bezos will go HAM on this shit.

Not to mention the FCC is getting sued right now for its massive debacle on its public comment period, refusing FOiA requests. Which is one way to challenge them, saying they handled the comment period poorly and let false comments go through. Even if they don't give a shit about comments, its still more money and time they have to spend. Not to mention I'm counting 3-4 other lawsuits ramping up.

Net Neutrality is pretty much universally popular. It crosses party lines like no other issue. It has 2 trillion dollars lined up against it, lawsuits already filed, and if lost, a massive spite fucking for as long as that faggot is in office. Not to mention trolls making his life a living hell with mockery, turning him into a giant clown with no respect.

I know people are worried, but take EA: it overstepped by doing a little bit more than what they always do and got fucked. Its game failed and it lost 3 billion in value. Imagine overstepping by so much that basically 90% of the country hates you, you've angered the richest people on the planet and you already are facing court cases for not caring about doing your job. Also the Republicans are currently getting their asses handed to them in elections in every state. Fighting a popular policy among basically everyone may give them second thoughts. Maybe not the committee members, but in general. That's another factor.

My faith isn't in the people, it isn't in Congress. Its in the huge, powerful, richest companies in history that he has aligned himself against. I've never seen someone with that dumb fucking smile on his face eagerly walk into the barrels of companies worth over 2 trillion and think he's going to be some sort of hero or win. If on the off chance, it dies, the spite fucking those companies do will be insane. Entertainment either way.
tl;dr
when in doubt, let the rich people do the work for you

Wait, did we fail? Did we honest-to-goodness fail? I see no reports of a vote yet, or is it in a secret court and the results are out?

And 3/4 of the Republicans support Net Neutrality. This is so surreal if we failed despite Pai's disadvantage because he bribed politicians to repeal it.

I've known the sin of Greed to be strong, but not this strong.

It's a good point that the Net Neutrality repeal wouldn't be a thing if cable companies and ISPs weren't so afraid of companies like Apple, Google, and Amazon. If they were doing better financially than these companies, they wouldn't be running to the FCC to try and curtail them.

So we have a good chance of not getting fucked raw?

That's possibly the case. But as @Secret Asshole and several others have pointed out, he's got some serious competition, and even if it does pass. Not only would the tech giants be pissed, but all of his fellow Republicans once they realize their ISP are charging out the ass. And the rest of the world would jump in on the Pajit bashing once they start getting affected too.

And that's before you get into the pre-existing FCC lawsuits.

One wildcard is that Republicans have been getting ass raped in every single election and passing an unpopular policy supported by rich and powerful companies, as well as their constituents across all political lines would only add fuel to the Republican hate that's going on. Local elections by me used to be dominated by Repubs and every single one of them lost. Its really telling.

The wildcard is the political climate being so unfavorable to Republicans that getting some political capital out of this might be worth it more than shilling for dying corporations and their monopolies. So the Republicans on the committee can be supporting Pai publicly, making him not do wheeling and dealing, instead forcing him to deal with the public response. That way, he can't really organize any sort of defense or support in the political realm. Then when the vote comes, they simply vote against the change, burying their knives in his back. By that point, it would be too late for him to recover or do really anything much about it. If this does happen, Pai's career is basically dead in the water.

Either pure ideology is a hell of a drug, or this dude has a check coming like you wouldn't believe.

I mentioned it before, but he is pure ideology in the form of a genuinely re.tarded corporate shill. The most dangerous combination. Verizon didn't hire him for his intellectual ability but because he's so fucking dumb he'd swallow any shit they sold him.

It's a good point that the Net Neutrality repeal wouldn't be a thing if cable companies and ISPs weren't so afraid of companies like Apple, Google, and Amazon. If they were doing better financially than these companies, they wouldn't be running to the FCC to try and curtail them.

This. The companies are dying, their cable model is basically dead. So you have this desperation play.

So we have a good chance of not getting fucked raw?

Its more like MAD: if we get fucked, so does everyone who fucked us. The spite and hate against everyone who managed to repeal this would be insane. You don't fuck with a 2 trillion dollar industry group and get to walk away whistling. They will find a way to ruin you.

You know what, this site was worth it. Net Neutrality may go, but we can still have memories of this site. From the misadventures of Chris Chan, to Moleman and his autistic land. From Russel Geer to The Entersphere, DSP and Null's family, don't you see. We can still have memories! Brianna Wu, who caught sperg flu, Gamergate made us face Vodrak's hate, which caused sperging all around. True Capitalist was full of shit, Amber Reed couldn't hide in the reeds, Pedophiles caused to get wild. Halals wherever you go, boxes full of doxxes, oh the spergs we had seen! So even if NN goes, we can still hold hope, that memories of spergs from Chris to Wu, can still be remembered as the good times, before some street shitter ruined it all.

Although on a serious note, I'll miss this site. I had a lot of fun on this site, and it'll probably be one of the few websites I'll really miss. So, goodbye everybody, we had a good run while it lasted

Beautiful post, but I don’t think the farms will be going away any time soon. Even if, by some satanic miracle, Pajeet gets everything he wants without a fight (VERY unlikely), we’re like autistic cockroaches. We can survive a nuclear blast.

It never had a chance of succeeding in the first place. This dumb fucking cunt thinks he's some hero when he is just the biggest, most obvious, corporate cocksucker that everyone from Republicans to Democrats can see how large his asshole has been stretched out in the first place by Verizon fucking their little butt boy. He had no intention of listening to the debate, which is why people started calling their reps instead of even trying the FCC.

I mean, nobody is going to take it lying down. Too many people make their living on it. Imagine if you are Amazon and you work from home, like they have programs doing. Suddenly, Amazon needs to pay more because 'employees' are using too much bandwidth. This is really obviously a ploy for dying companies (Cable) and Monopolies (ISPs), to secure their waning power. It is nothing but a naked power grab and there is no good argument against it.

Even if this goes through, people are already gearing up to fight it. This isn't simply going to go away. You've got the industry group for Apple, Google and Amazon 'exploring their legal options'. Pai doesn't have enough lawyers and money to fight this well. He's going to get fucked up the ass ten ways from Sunday. When someone over-reaches like this, basically aligning the entire internet and every corporation on it, you're looking at hell on levels not seen before. Not to mention three more activist groups are planning lawsuits as well. One way to stop this is tie it up in court for so long, it never gets resolved and a new FCC chair replaces Pai and just goes back to previous rules. Even if it does get passed, it will result in an unimaginable shitshow of people rebelling against their ISPs, looking for ways around it, or speeding up of tech to make it obsolete. You might even see industry groups beginning to sue ISPs to break up their monopolies and little fiefdoms just as a spitefuck, to force their way in. Or support lawsuits saying the ISPs haven't lived up to their obligations of infrastructure and their privelages should be revoked. Pai is the living embodiment of a fucking shill exceptional individual who better pray verizon hires him back after the absolute Pandora's box he opened.

Even without lawsuits, trolls are gearing up to make his life a fucking living hell. And I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few bricks through the stores of verizon's windows.
Just curious what makes you so sure that companies like Google and Facebook are gonna fight it in court? Not trying to be pessimistic, but what makes you so sure?

Edit: Four activist groups are already getting lawsuits ready, the question is will they be enough? If Google or facebook takes this shit to court then we have a chance.

Wait, did we fail? Did we honest-to-goodness fail? I see no reports of a vote yet, or is it in a secret court and the results are out?

The vote is tomorrow, I think starting at 10:30 am. Pai is so thickheaded and has a coporat dick so far up his ass he's gonna pass it despite the massive public outcry.

You know what, I'm going to say it, the constant "It's the end of the world!!!!!1!!!" stuff going on in this thread kind of irritates me.

The policy will not go into effect immediately. The vote to confirm it is only the beginning - again, read those articles I talked about.

The Farms will still be here at the end of the week. The Farms will still be here by Christmas. The Farms, God willing, will still be here a year from now.

At this point, no matter who wins, Ajit Pai loses. His political career would have a better shot at surviving if he’d gone to an elementary school playground and started slathering peanut butter on his dick.

He’s not digging his own grave anymore. At this point he’s piling dirt onto himself, smiling that big stupid smile the whole time.

Or more accurately, booking his one way to the afterlife, considering his political career is going to be murdered in cold blood (again, unless some nutcase goes out of his/her way to actually murder him).

If an Australian diaperfag or a washout British politician who stalks forum moderators couldn't take us down. I can assure you an Indian trying to make a designated shitting street over the internet will fail just as much.

He is the fucking definition of a corporate shill. I've said it before, but it's extremely disappointing that someone who is such an obvious puppet for corporations is allowed to hold public office. This entire time he's basically been like "Well, tens of millions of Americans have been screaming at me to not do this, and it's one of the few issues that almost everyone seems to agree on, but Comcast is paying me major dough so fuck you guys, lol"

Had Comcast and the other ISPs known how much of a self-entitled dick he was towards their customers and the public at large, they'd probably just pay him off to get him to shut the fuck up and sit down.

(:optimistic:)
