I've heard this referenced before, but I'm actually unfamiliar with the incident and feel I'm missing out on a significant piece of Christory. Would somebody mind filling me in?

Point taken, forgot about that. I have never understood how he was able to stay afloat for so long without Bob around. I guess he does the minimum to be able to stay afloat, I also wonder how involved is nowadays as well.

Thing is, Chris'll save money in other ways. He has very low standards when it comes to food and clothing, has zero social life and doesn't have the expenses most of the rest of us have at Christmas, or birthday times. Obviously, this won't balance out his vidya buying habits, but if I or the rest of us spent money the way he does as well as all the financial obligations of living like a normal human being, we'd skyrocket into debt a lot faster than him.

It's explained in more detail in the Ivy Q&A, but as that saga was reaching its climax, and as Joshua Martinez was defrauding Chris, Rocky convinced the Chandlers to go to the police about him (and Ivy while they were at it, because elderly/incompetent church counselors don't get the Internet).

Of course, like any other time you mix the Chandlers and law enforcement, they managed to fuck it up. Somehow, it was revealed that Chris was filching his parents' money. While they were at the police station.

Needless to say, they dropped the matter quickly and quietly.

That said, I'm not sure what the hell he'd buy along with it. There's no launch titles that really spring to mind that Chris may have an interest in. Killzone he might get for the sake of it being Sony's flagship FPS franchise, but other than that I dunno. Is there a version of Skylanders coming for it?

About the lack of activity on his PSN page, I don't have a PS4 (or even a PS3) but I've seen classmates on my Facebook feed saying that PSN has been down for a good chunk of the time since launch. Could that be a factor?

It's still up, i think any issues have been specific to the PS4 with some firmware teething problems.

It's probably either he can't find a way to justify or hide such a singularly massive purchase from Barb, or he's maybe just not that fussed. If somebody could look through the big Facebook leak from a couple of months ago and get the date of the post where he said he "Upgraded to a Wiiu", they could cross reference it with the NA release date of the system. That may give a hint as to how quick he is to adopt a new home console.

Let's not forget he didn't get his first "life upgrade" until after its American release. According to Wikipedia, the PS3 launched in America on 17 November 2006, and OPL didn't get his until 17 March 2007.

Very true, but Chris has been pretty down as of late, and it's not too out-there to think that he might've bought one to make himself feel better. There's also the notion that Bob's no longer around to manage his finances, so Chris can just spend his willy-nilly, but that point's up for debate. I don't know if there's any proof to suggest his spending is any more exorbitant than it was previously.

PSN has been up and down for my PS3 since the launch. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't. So something is going on in Sonyville.

Apart from Sony's teething troubles, there are a number of confounding factors that may delay us seeing a PS4 pop up on Chris' PSN profile. He may not be willing to spend the effort waiting in line to get one on launch day. He may not be able to pick one up until he can squeeze it into Barb's q-sand run schedule. The television in their living room may not be HDMI ready¹, and while he can easily sneak another chunk of black plastic into the house, Barb would notice a new television, so he may not have anywhere to set it up. He may have broken it already, or been scammed by a console scalper, or any number of other things I can't think of right now.

So I wouldn't be surprised if it's a few days or weeks or even months before we see the first signs of Chris' upgraded life upgrade. Being an early adopter takes some effort, and even Chris' best efforts usually fall short. All I am sure of is he'll get one sooner rather than later.

I don't know why people keep thinking Barb would give a shit about Chris' spending. Chris has bills he knows he has to pay, which he does, but past that, Barb doesn't give a shit about what Chris does with his money.

If there are lines that would require him to wait more than a few hours then that would seem like a very likely reason for him not picking one up. It's also possible he pre-ordered one online and it just hasn't arrived yet but I'd think he'd do overnight shipping.

Two things I think we can take for granted: Most of Chris's waking time is still spent playing games, regardless of PSN activitiy, and as soon as he has his PS4, he'll let every last person in the universe know about it. There's also the fact that the PS4 can be used to monitor Chris in his home, which is a big advantage over the PS3.

Isn't the consensus, though, that Chris isn't allowed to play his vidya anywhere but the living room any more because Barb doesn't trust him to his own devices (in both senses of the word)?

They may have dragged that thing into the living room and set it up there on top of the old television, but I'm sure it weighs a grand number of pounds and Chris would avoid that effort if he could. Then again, maybe his PS4 delay is because he's right now tunneling through the hoard to reach his HDMI television.

I can't imagine Chris and Barb sharing a TV. All she has is her shows and all he has is his video games. So Chris either moved his TV in there so he could game or conceded to Barb and relies heavily on his portables. Considering you can link up the Vita to the PS4 means he'd want it either way.
