Upgrading the Life Upgrade: PS4

There wasn't anything worth getting on the 3DS on launch. He got it anyways. Vita? Day one and a stack of games he likely wouldn't play and that he definitely couldn't afford when he already had the before mentioned 3DS, regular DS, and two PSP's. Taking that into consideration, why would he not get a PS4? He has no friends and fills his life with stuff. It's really simple.

And keeps him entertained too since its the cheapest way to keep him from too much; or arguably speaking.

Yes, because it's not like Little Big Planet isn't totally a Sony exclusive and one of Chris's favorite titles and it's also totally unlikely that they won't be making a third one for the PS4 because it wasn't massively popular. Oh, and its not also like Chris has a touch of the 'tism which makes him susceptible to brand loyalty, marketing tactics, and will continue supporting a brand no matter how crappy it gets. (Like Sonic '06. Yes, he thinks Sonic '06 is good because it's Sonic and he can't let Sonic down).

Yeah, I'm aware that the PS4 has one game that Chris is interested in, potentially, sometime next year or later. Chris might buy the PS4, but it's a huge waste of money for him to get it before one of his favorite franchise games comes out. Waiting means smaller, sleeker models, price drops and bundle deals. There are no games out now that are better or more fun to play than what's available on PS3, Vita, 3DS, or Wii U. Chris has a lot of awesome choices on his plate already. Isn't there a new Pokemon game he should be playing on a 3D portable? Last I checked, Chris REALLY likes Pokemon!!

I think it could go either way, personally. Chris is enormously loyal to Sony and he's dumb enough to buy a PS4 just on the likelihood that a Little Pig Blanket game will come out for it (IT WAS BASICALLY PROMISED, after all!), even if there aren't currently any titles available for it that he's panting away for - though you can be assured he'd buy at least a couple of new games purely so he can start using his new life upgrade right away. Wasting money is kind of Chris' MO, after all, and look at all the games and DLC he already has that he's never touched. If he does wait until later to get one, it will be because the PS4 will be able to provide something he actively wants, not because he was waiting for bugs to be worked out or the price to drop. He doesn't have that much common sense.

He has credit cards if he wants to buy it now. Barb doesn't care what he spends his money on. I have no idea what the availability situation is with stores in his area.

So far there's been no mention either way. It's not on his radar, or just not as much as Legos, My Little Pony, or his iPhone. He doesn't seem to care about PS4 at all, has there been any actual posts by Chris on FB or anywhere about it?

This won't happen since this particular genre only exists in Japan, but IF there were a few dating sims on the ps4 I can see chris totally getting it for those as well. If by some miracle he ever developed a good skills playing dating sim games, he would be sorely disappointed when his skill couldn't land him a boyfriend free girl.

Then a bunch of weens would give him a custom shirt saying "I played a bunch of dating sims to get boyfriend free girls and all I got was this fucking shirt and a few platinum trophies." .

Then the weens in the back of the shirt will have spammed in the back.... I think my imagination goes a little too far these days.

As I understand it Sony limited the amount of pre-orders for launch day consoles to insure that everybody who bought it got one, so they stopped accepting pre-orders in something like August IIRC. It would explain why Chris doesn't have one at launch if he didn't know about that and didn't have the foresight to pre-order one.

I think some here are underestimating how much of a life upgrade the PS4 is going to be to Chris. I think he's going to love it, especially considering how much he loved his previous life upgrade to PS3.

I'm wondering if he is just waiting for December's before he buys a PS4. There are several good theories in this thread, like Barb not letting him get the PS4 right away or whatever. Let's be honest, we don't know what is going on right now, and I guess we will have to wait until next month to see if he gets it, or maybe Barb said she would buy him this for Christmas so he's waiting for Christmas. Only time will tell.

According to Destructoid, 2.3 million people who pre-ordered their PS4s from GameStop are still waiting. So yeah, Chris is probably waiting for them to restock.

...or it's off his radar like the evidence shows. I think he can't afford it after the Lego high school splurge that was supposed to win back his gal pals. He's not excited for it, and has yet to even mention the PS4 on his FB.
