If nothing else, Owens and Tucker have consistent beliefs. The weird little gay kid just says whatever he thinks will usher more other, weird gay kids to his audience.
It's not a matter of can't, the technology isn't unknown or advanced. It's just expensive, both at the time of those buildings were built, and also because labor costs and some materials like cut stone and marble have gone up in cost. Sometimes people with a ton of money will build stuff in old styles, but if you're not a monopoly corporation or a robber-baron type you lack the coin, and those types are going to be more focused on medium-term returns and fashionability, respectively.

Sounds totally viable to me. Hollywood is ran by corrupt unions, it's very easy to justify price of labor and then destroy everything so nobody can verify if the set truly used its entire budget. I'm sure any money not spent on props went to some other great cause.
