That's how [current year] comics work for the companies that aren't Marvel or DC. They create new hyper woke comics in hope to get a Netflix deal. They don't give a shit about the comic book medium.
There's a company that made a comic about a morbidly obese female superhero (the one that made a special issue to endorse Hillary Clinton in 2016), they admited later that they did it only to get one fat blonde actress (I don't know her name, I think she's australian) to promote the book to her Hollywood circle of people. The comics only sold a few copies but they didn't care, they wanted a Hollywood deal.
Changing his gender didn't really help his career, sure he got more opportunities at Marvel but none of his books sold enough copies.
The industry's next big thing is Vita Ayala, a self-described "they/them queer & brown" author who doesn't know how to write comics but is somehow able to deliver a handfull of books every month (that no one buys).
