ValiDate - an upcoming (and unsurprisingly racist) visual novel made by SJW's, for SJW's. Currently MIA.

Italians aren't white. This is fraud.

And an Italian guy from New Jersey is going to have a lot more than just "one racist Uncle."

The others all killed themselves from the shame of having him as their nephew. On top of being forced to live in New Jersey.

So who here is donating?

You caught me. First I was tempted by the sticker sheet (only $20 more than the game with some extra jpegs!), but then I saw I could get a postcard for just 35 dollars more and I couldn't just pass up an offer like that. But why would I stop there when I could get 4 whole charms for a mere 40$? And a T-shirt for 60$ more than that? Slick marketing on this game.

Why do I have a feeling the new Italian character is going to be drawn with black features and skin several tones darker than the tan colour typical of someone from the Mediterranean? Like how the supposedly French and Korean girl just looks black.

It’s also telling that they picked an ethnic background that’s sometimes considered “PoC” for the white guy rather than something that’s almost exclusively pasty white like English or German.

Nigga, are you for real? You want 42.9% of 22,000$ (9,438$) TO FUCKING SELL MERCHANDISE THAT YOU DON'T PROVE ANYWHERE WILL SELL?
  • At +50$, you get A sticker sheet (website I found citing estimated price to print and ship as 9.99$ for 1 page with an exponential drop for each extra page ordered)
  • At +85$, you get A postcard (website I found citing estimated price to print and ship as 39.91$ for 50 post cards or 75.90$ for 500 post cards with varying prices depending on whether it's efficient usage of their printer.
  • At +125$ you get four acrylic charms (I couldn't find any sites offering to manufacture and ship them, but since point-of-sale price for these things tends to be between 5-25$ depending on quality, safe to assume manufacturing them would be cheaper.
  • At +185$, you get A T-Shirt (website I found citing estimated price to print and ship as 20-30$ depending on quality).
So far:
  • 6 people want sticker sheets badly enough to get scammed out of 50$
  • 3 people want sticker sheets and postcards badly enough to get scammed out of 85$
  • 2 people want sticker sheets, postcards and charms badly enough to get scammed out of 125$
  • 1 person wants a sticker sheet, a postcard, some charms and a t-shirt badly enough to get scammed out of 185$
(12 × 9.99) + (6 × 39.91) + (3 × 25) + 30 = 464.46$
That's still 8,973.54$ unspent on merchandise. So, surely they'll spend the rest of that money post game release on merchandise right? OR, THEY POCKET EVERY PENNY BECAUSE THERE'S LITTLE INTEREST IN THAT MERCHANDISE. At least if you go by interactions on Twitter.

although it's sort of samefacey, this is a MUCH better art style and it's actually visually appealing. I'd much rather play a game that looks like this.
That's the power of having either one artist do all the character atwork, or a lead artist steering everyone in the same direction.

Alright, I bit the bullet and downloaded the game. Honestly, I'm just 5 minutes in but I think I've seen it all.
The UI is basically a Steven Universe copy/paste design-wise (colors and fonts), as seen on all the promo images. As for the game "mechanics"...

It's basically what we've seen in promo screenshots, nothing extraordinary. You start off the game by picking one character to play (on the left) and one to text (on the right). Then it seems to be a normal VN. It's weird that they make you pick the match you want from the get-go though: doesn't that seem to go against the point of dating VNs?
As for the writing...

Again, this is all 5 minutes in. They REALLY want you to know she's pee oh sea.
Also, this is made in Ren'py. I can't remember if this has been brought up before, but it's unsurprising. I don't know how the engine works, but I don't think it needs two programmers, since it was made to be easy to use from what I understand. (There again, they didn't need so many artists either...)

Ren'py is basically the RPGMaker of VN's. It's designed to be ridiculously easy to work with and I guarantee there is a metric ton of user made scripts to do just about anything.

Sidenote: I left a review criticizing their clashing art and bland UI, but the devs don't seem to agree and keep deleting my comment. I wasn't even mean about it and used zero gamer words.

You sick fuck, you're invalidating the experience!
